I hope you didn't wear shorts with a button-down dress shirt and brown dress shoes with white socks to lounge by the pool like my colleague from NY wore when we were in Orlando one summer.   🤣🤣🤣

28 this morning and the overnight drizzly mist is still coming down coating everything in ice.  The deck and walkway are solid ice, the truck is iced over, I can slide over the top of the 1" of crunchy ice crystals from yesterday.  A couple cars went creeping slowly down the road.  I'm thankful we still have power since I'd rather not deal with setting up the generator.

I hope everyone is dealing with the wintry weather OK.

Snow still on the ground from last Friday.  We got another 0.25 inch last night, and it hasn't really been above freezing for a week.  However, a warming trend is coming tomorrow, temps up to mid-50's, and winds 15-35 mph.  Hopefully, the snow will be gone by next weekend.

Yep!  I don't mind the winds for a day or so, but it looks like it will blow for 4 days.  When the snow melts, the golf course will be waterlogged.  We have sandy soil, and it drains very well... except when frozen!!

Please keep Texas in your prayers. What started as freaky but fun winter snow morphed into quite a challenge. In one of our city's press briefings I read that over 1000 public water systems in Texas (including ours) had water breaks/outages for days. Of those that have recovered enough to now intermittently supply water, a boil water notice has been issued. Millions have lost power, some for the past 6 days. Can't boil water without power. But in the great Texas can-do spirit we have pulled together what resources we each have to power through. At one point my creative son and husband scooped up ice off our brick patio into ice chests to melt and filter for use in flushing toilets.

IceChests.jpg.93c3e0cbd5d900d793f9c0f19da99913.jpg

South Texas is beginning to thaw today (at least during the part of the daytimes) which means as new water breaks are discovered, areas will be cut off again while repairs are made. On the fun, positive side - we are on the mend and planning to escape to the golf course Sunday afternoon for a few hours of sanity. Temp forecast for Sunday is a heat wave of 66° Woohoo!

Living in that area I am sure you have some post hurricane recovery experience that can be put into action.  We used to lose power often for up to a week at a time and some things we have done in the past...start catching snow melt off the roof from your downspouts and fill a bathtub or two for toilet flushing water.  Propane grill or camp cooktop can be used for boiling water & cooking.  Share & rotate generator use among a few neighbors to keep freezers and fridge's down to a good temperature.

I hope they are able to repair the water lines quickly for you.

You are correct, we do have those experiences to learn from. But this is different for Texas. We run inland from hurricanes and don't come back until things have improved. There was no where to run from this and we certainly don't know how to prepare for cold snow and icy conditions. Dumb us - if we had even thought we might lose water we would have filled tubs and everything we could find to be prepared. We were preparing for possible power outage but not water. We are surviving and will add what we learned to our memory banks. It should only be a hiccup for the golf course to bounce back; much quicker than the destruction from a hurricane.

You are in our prayers.  I've been following the horrible weather Texas has had over the last week.  Not much different than here, but while it doesn't happen a lot, we can get very cold.  The city is generally prepared for it, as are our houses.  I can't imagine all you have to go through just for daily routines.

In the 52 years I've lived here, we have had temps as low as -20 and as high as 114.  We have had winds in excess of 75 mph... no hurricane or tornado.  In all that time we have never had the power go off for more than a few minutes at a time.  Maybe we've been lucky.

I certainly hope that this is the last winter gasp and spring arrives quickly.  I don't think we will be playing golf next weekend.  While temps are warming and the wind will start howling this weekend, we still have a bunch of snow on the ground, and when it melts, puddles will be all over the course.  We don't have cart paths except around the tees and greens.

Our house taken this morning...

Yes hoping things get better in Texas soon. The whole heating system people use just don't work well when it's that cold. Stay warm everyone.

22 this morning on the weather station.  Clear sunny skies, no ice or snow today!  The stuff on the ground isn't going to melt much today, the high is only supposed to be 30.

Clear weather all week with temps warming through the 40's and even touching the 50's by Wed.  The ice pack should be gone by then!!

Glad you guys are thawing out! Fortunately us northern folks are used to it and prepared for it. Is not easy when your area just isn’t equipped for it or even really “designed” when pipes don’t get dug below the frost line it’s never good.
How is the water situation? Clearing up or gonna be some time?

Water is good. Thought it would be several more days but . . . started receiving a little water through taps Friday evening and then surprisingly, a little while ago tonight they lifted our boil water notice. How it's possible to move the process along that fast I don't know, but I like it! Other cities are not so fortunate yet. But here it's time to run the dishwasher, do laundry and take a hot shower. Ahhh! There are still many repairs to be made but this is uplifting and I feel very blessed. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. I will continue to do the same for all of you.  ❤️

All the snow is gone, even the piles I shoveled off the driveway.  Temp is 49º at 6am and the wind blew 30-40mph with 50+ gusts last night.  It's now light enough for me to head outside to survey any damage.

High temp today will be 60º and we still have a wind advisory 20-30mph until Tuesday morning.

I just looked outside to find nothing falling from the sky for the first time in weeks and there is this strange orb of light that appears to be emanating warmth. Weird, right?
