Legally Bringing Cubans into US

Just a heads up for any fans of Cuban Cigars.  It is now legal to bring Cuban cigars into the US for personal use from countries other than Cuba.   

 

I brought back some Monte Christos and Cohibas from Paris last week.  At the CDG airport duty free shop, the signs that Cuban cigars cannot be purchased for flights to the US are gone.  At customs, I was asked how many cigars I had, no questions regarding country of origin.  

 

You are still limited to the US Customs allowances before paying a duty, and they have to be for personal use.

 

I had a good time with a couple of friends smoking a few Cubans and drinking scotch the other night.

In November i brought back 10 from Mexico with no issues, Cuba custom seals were legit and where packaged in a travel humidor with no problem. Got some nice Cohiba's. There is some price gouging online, but hope the increase in the market brings those prices down.

I cannot confirm nor deny that any Cubans ever made here to the U.S. while I was traveling to Russia.  When does the Statute of Limitations run out??

I recently took a trip to Mexico and brought back 15 Cubans. Customs didn't even ask about them. Pretty nice since the last time they were confiscated ☹️

Smuggled some back in ‘03 for my uncles from Paris. I was sweating big time being a 20 year old kid. Glad to know that I won't have to be as inventive as last time.

What I was told that if you take the bands off the cigars they can be from where ever you want them to be when you talk with customs

I'd be highly surprised if you were even questioned anymore, unless you had 2-3 boxes in your luggage, and even then it'd only be about the duty. (Its ALWAYS about the $$)

I use cigarone.com ... ships them in from Switzerland for relatively cheap. Never had an issue.
