DIRECTED FORCE PUTTER

pboyce

Recommended Posts

I have been a PGA Professional for years and like many golfers, the older I

got the more I struggled with the putter. I ran across Bill Presse IV on Facebook andthrough discussion found that he was involved with a putter called Directed Force.

This lie-balanced putter stays square to the line unlike any other putter on the market and is weighted depending on what lie the golfer is fitted for.  In a testing device he calls the “revealer” putters are inserted and spin freely. There is not one design on the market that stays square to the path except the Directed Force Reno. I have been on Taylormade staff programs for years and have tried their putters, Scotty Camerons and more including the latest buzz Evnroll but I can honestly say that I have never putted better than I have since I purchased a DF putter. If you keep your grip relaxed and maintain the lie angle, the putter virtually swings itself. It also features a Presse grip which builds a forward press into the setup at address. If you visit their website www.directedforce.com you can view the specs.

I am not normally a product view jump on the wagon type of guy, but this design has incredible potential. I just saw that Retief Goosen and Bryson DeChambeau are using it.

While I appreciate your post and welcome any and all products on MGS (never know which ones will help golfers most).

I do have to say I have a very bad taste in my mouth out of the gates due to the amount of SPAM people inside and now outside of the company are sending me.  It has become a task just to go through all the emails, facebook, instagram and twitter posts.

I have been in the industry long enough to know when hype is manufactured and when it is real.  This is the manufactured kind.

ALl the comments are the same.  How great the putter is, how it is revolutionary and then a link to the site.  Usually from people who have never read MGS.

If they are going to try and continue the onslaught of SPAM I feel it is only fair to let the readers know the other side as well.

The revealer test really doesn't tell me much about how the putter actually performs.

Square to the path is great for someone that has a perfect stroke. I have seen lots of putting stroke data and it is very rare to have a perfect stroke. A perfect stroke is one that isn't biased left or right. This bias requires that the putter is open or closed to the path to enable the ball to start on the intended line.

Fundamentally what this putter requires is that I change my natural stroke to fit the putter. My preference is to find a putter to fit my stroke.

The putter does sound interesting; perhaps they should send one to the MGS club test.

Also I think Dechambeau has already switched to a new putter to accommodate his new putting style

This feels more like a press release than a review.  I get the impression that while maybe you don't work for the company, you have a stake in the game and are maybe a fitter/dealer?

Nothing wrong with that, but it would be nice to be up front about it.  If that is the case then how about submitting the putter for independent testing?

If I'm wrong and you just want to share your experience with a product that worked for you then I would suggest reading through some of the great forum member review threads that others have done and following that format.  We love pictures and data, not just marketing speak :)

So I googled "Directed Force Putters" and found that they have been around since 2014.....other Blogs have "reviewed" them but there hasn't been much action on them.  Surely after being on the market for 3 years they would have more presence if the concept really worked.

I've actually hit this putter At the Minnesota golf show last year. And know a few guys who bought it and liked it. It is an ugly putter, but does stay pretty straight through impact. In my opinion is more from the grip that is used that the actual putter itself.

1483457949239.jpg

The grip is offset and has more of an oval type shape that fits the hand.

Ok so the putter is ugly. If it works as advertised and say it saved you 5 putts a rounds would you put it in your bag?

For me it is about performance, for others it is about looks. But as we know looking good does not always lead to good performance.

Cnosil I agree that looking good as in equipment doesn't lead to performance. But fortunately in golf we can have it both ways. Good looks and performance!

But no matter what equipment it still boils down to the individual holding the handle. Does it not?

If given a choice I'll take equipment that appeals to my eye and has the performance I measure.

The DF putter doesn't appeal to my eye at all. Therefore it's out.

I guess my point is that you are throwing out the club without giving it a try. In many cases it is possible to match looks and performance.

I agree that if you can match up your preferred look and optimum performance it is ideal. But for me I will sacrifice looks for performance

But why not have them as part of the MGS club test? Although MGS has indicated that they are being inundated with emails about the club which should make us leery why not include them in the 2017 testing? That is what this site is all about.

And for the record, I have no connection with the company, I am just a golfer that like to know what is available via head to head comparison

There is not one design on the market that stays square to the path except the Directed Force Reno.

Actually, the P&SI Egos putter does too. Put a bit of lead tape on the toe of an Odyssey Toe Up putter and they would too. Any center shafted putter with significant onset (opposite of offset) should get pretty close to being lie angle balanced.

Check out the p&si egos -- its a perfectly balanced blade. Can be had for 300-350 from the guy who sells them. It's a great putter, but he's marketing them wrong--his website is all about how to plumb properly instead of about a perfectly balanced putter. Its a 345 gram anser style head.

As mentioned by cnosil, a review by MyGolfSpy is all I am suggesting. The reaction of the ball on off center hits is in my opinion, second to none and will be proven by legitimate testing. This is not promoting, this is just asking for a review of the putter by knowledgeable people.

I visited the website, and I find the concept interesting, but like PJ I don't think I could get over the look.  So, then I saw that they had fitting location and Washington State was listed.  Maybe I should check them out.  Whoa there!!  The fitting location listed is at Nedlands Golf Course in Perth, WA.  That's not Washington, that's Western Australia!!    :o

Because they posted it on Facebook asking for a review. I did not say that I was not involved. I just became a fitter two days ago because of my experience with the putter over the past few months. I truly believe in it and in my 50 years as a PGA member, I have seen a lot of fads...this is not a fad.

  • 1 month later...

Long time reader, first time poster.

I came on here to see a review on the DF and decided to sign up for the forum after reading the replies here.  From what I see here there is an abundance of ire and a lack of data.

Anecdotally I can attest to how easy this putter is to play with.  I borrowed a friends for a 9 hole stretch and it was noticeably better than my Ping TR Ketsch (MGS best putter design '14-'16) and i was fit for the Ketsch on a SAM putting machine.  This does not qualify the DF as a revolution in putting, but it does indicate there is a good reason to run the data regarding this putter.

Wrx did an article on this a few months back, it would be cool to see another study.  DF's marketing practices may not be what you want, but this site has the viewership that it does because it is product and data focused, not marketing focused.
