PlaidJacket
We currently have 10 players. One is still a possible and two guys have been unresponsive to email and private message. So... 7-10 players it looks like at this time. 6 have dropped out along the way. I was actually going to call the course today and visit with the Pro if I can. PlaidJacket
ALERT! We have to change venue guys. Here's the deal.... I spoke this morning with the Pro at White Bluff. He told me no advance tee times prior to 7 days in advance. Period. When I first spoke with him back in January I had gotten a different story. In January I was told he had to wait until we were closer to our date. Ok fine. Now we're closer. After speaking with the Pro today it sounds like to me it would be a 50/50 proposition at best that we'd get our preferred tee times at White Bluff for the 22nd. Here's my suggestion.... This morning I've just spoken with the Head Pro at Sugar Tree and our date is wide open. This course is a good one I'm told by a few guys (good players) I know that have played it. The course will be a little further drive for some guys and closer for a few others. Basically, ST is roughly 45 miles SW from Ft. Worth. From Austin perhaps 185 miles. From San Antonio 220 miles, and from Houston 250. For me perhaps 30 minutes closer is all. No biggie. I'll still play the Friday before also. The Pro tells me the course will be in good shape with no aerified greens. The Green Fees are slightly lower at $49 including cart vs $85 at White Bluff. I haven't looked into lodging yet but I'm quite sure it's available closer by for those like me that will need it. My recommendation is that we book our event at Sugar Tree. I can do that now or anytime in the near future. Perhaps there's also a chance to pick up a few new players that have been on the fence. So... what do you guys think? I say let's do it. sugartreegolf.com My Sun Mountain bag currently includes: 771CSI 5i - PW and PFC Micro Tour-c 52°, 56°, 60 wedges EXS 10.5*, 929-HS FW4 16.5* Willimette w/GolfPride Contour
txstroker
I was really looking forward to playing White Bluff. With that said, it doesn't matter much where we play so long as it isn't a goat track. If we have information that it's a nice course, that works for me. Need to firm up pretty quickly however so we can all finalize our plans. downlowkey
Sugar Tree is a neat looking track with the Brazos River as an integral design feature. downlowkey
For future get togethers: Vaaler Creek Golf Club is a fantastic facility with stay and play packages starting at $150 that include lodging plus 2 rounds (can be split into 2 days; i.e. play sat afternoon, spend the night, play sun morning). PlaidJacket
I've heard from about 5 guys so far today and they'd be happy with Sugar Tree. I've wanted to play there myself for the past couple of years. I've been told it's a good track. Not goat ranch'ish at all. Perhaps if some members have played it they'll chime in. I'm seriously thinking about calling in the morning and reserving 3 tee times for us. txstroker... I'm guessing you and your buddy will play friday also? I am. Probably Ethan will too. PlaidJacket
Another roadblock if you want to call it that. This morning I called to make our Friday and Saturday Tee times. Now I find out that Sugar Tree has a tournament on Friday. The Head Pro didn't mention that a couple of days ago when I called. Honestly, I didn't ask either. But he didn't inform me either. So.... So, there will be NO GOLF on Friday April 21 at Sugar Tree. I went ahead and made two tee times for Saturday April 22 at 11:00 and 11:10. So that's where it stands today.
