Hi Guys, good info to date and it is good to see you are taking

an approach to the project in line with how my local TP Team

approach things wich is really helpful.

 

Hey TYK, ok good resulsts and yes I am not over reaching with

my designs as I am using various FlexiGel (Ionomer) blends for

my cover stock and they will never have that rubbery to touch

feel about them but that is what I need for those balls.

 

What I did include with the Oz shipped packs is an early

Prototype version of my TT Durathane covered Tour Vision

ball, this ball starts to address the final key in allowing

for a wider range of recovery shot types by the better player

but as you have already seen my MultiLayer structure is right

on the money without being just like something else out there

in the market.

 

Also please note guys that I have designed the Gel V's balls

to have a drop and release in a CONTROLLED manner performance,

as the players that should be using these designs cannot put

spin on their shots in a consistent manner so I am saying dont

throw it at the pin but get used to allowing the ball to land

a bit short of the pin and roll up.

 

MORE PLAYERS HOLE OUT CHIP SHOTS WHEN THEY ROLL THE BALL AT

THE HOLE THAN THOSE LOOKING TO THROW IT AT THE HOLE WITH A

HARD HIGH SPIN SHOT. Watch the tour and you will find they

are not chipping in on a regular basis but the Old Pro's

that I grew up caddying for used to try and hole every chip.

 

The trajectory I have looked to create is based on the fact

most days have a bit of wind around in Oz so I wanted a very

stable flight model for my designs.

with materials that we used. If it's going to be synthetic

I wanted it to bring a different set of advanced performance

capabilies to the table in comparison to a quality leather

You beg an interesting question Boz, which is how much of how we play is based on what our equipment is capable of doing? I would agree with you that I make more chips when I get them rolling out towards the hole, and I do play this type of shot with some frequency. However, from a certain distance, say more than 15' off the green, I believe I get closer with a spinning check shot than I can with a roll out. I probably don't make as many, but I probably one putt more of them! And I hope everyone realizes that a full review and opinion cannot be formed on one round of golf, either. I plan on playing all these balls until they're a scuffed mess, and then I plan on ordering some more from you and actually paying for them!

 

I think there is a definitely a potential market here in the US for Vision Golf and I'm pulling for your success! I can't wait to see what those with the prototype think of it!

If you can design a radical yellow ball that equals the X3 on full shots, spins like a Cally i(z) with the wedge,and passes the tooth test I pledge here and now to spend hundreds of dollars a year with Vision Golf on schwag, gloves, and golf balls!

I find that a good test of feel is just to dribble the ball off of a wedge a few times. With Top Flites you can really hear the click feel and with tour balls they feel obviously softer.

LOL. How about scented balls? I am also a bowler and Storm has came out with balls that are scented to "help get you in your think zone". I have one of their balls with a cinnamon scent and I keep it in the garage, you can smell it as soon as you walk out the back door. I guess scented grips would be better, since the ball doesn't (or shouldn't) get close to your face.

I was born and raised in Bolton, Lancashire, joined the Army when I was 17 in 1969 and frankly rarely went home. Been all over courtesy of HM and most places i liked, even the Falklands and Belfast. I really like Brisbane and would like to go back to visit and play golf. Been in Canada this past 21+ years, lived in Medicine Hat and experienced the hottest summer and coldest winter on record and escaped to Vancouver, been here since but still travelled a lot. Really impressed with the look of the Boz golf balls and looking forward to trying them out. I will be chipping and pitching a good bit with them first, want to get a feel before I lose the first one off the tee. These things look so good they should have GPS trackers built in.

My father was a driver for a Bradford Glass company & I travelled a lot of miles with him through Yorkshire & Lancashire. I have been to Bolton several times.( Notthat i remember much.) I was 10 years old when I left England

If you are ever heading for Brisbane let me know. If I cannot get there ,I can hook you up with a few guys to play golf with. Some of them even Play Vision balls. I have tried to keep some of the early Balls that Boz Have a photo somewhere that I will post shortly.

You guys are now finding out what we in OZ already Know.

Following from the above, yes he is right. I have been astounded to get to a green after thumping a Vision Ball and thinking that I will know how this thing is going to putt. The feel off the driver/irons can be very deceiving when putting. Your brain thinks We have just hit the ball that far, now that we have putter in end you only have to give this ball a slight tap, ummmm error.

 

It is all trail and error and as Boz said it may take more than a few holes to work out what each ball really can do.

I don't know whether to put this HERE.. or give it it's own thread... but here goes. This is going to be one wierd review.

I played 18 with the Vision Gel yesterday. I didn't take it to the practice green, I didn't take it to the chipping area, and I didn't hit any practice shots with it. I gave it the EXACT same test it would get if I bought a sleeve of balls in a hurry when I was running behind for my tee time and the pro shop didn't have my "usual".

A little about my game... I'm around a low 20s handicap (if I turned in my score cards) and have been shooting in the high 80s - mid 90s for the past month. I don't hit a long ball with driver, woods or irons. I have good days and bad days, but average around 34 putts per round. My average drive distance is 230-240 ish and sometimes more or less. I often push/slice or pull/hook the ball and have trouble staying in the fairways. I have a real problem with consistency off the driver. Average full 8 iron is about 120-130. I've been gaming several balls a lot lately. GamerV2, NXT, HX Hot Bite. So anyway.. on with my impressions of the Gel.

Driver - I took out the longest drive and the shortest because the longest was my sweetest shot of the day and had about a 15 mph tailwind. The shortest was a duff by me and had NOTHING to do with the ball. LOL. Average drive was 233. The Gel is not a "long" ball for my game. BUT... I didn't show any slice or hook all day!!!!!!! The times I was off center line were MY fault, not the ball at all. This thing flies straight as an arrow! 10 of 14 fairways hit. WAY above my average!! LOL!!

Irons - At first I couldn't hit a green with these things off the irons. Then I realized on hole 4 why that was so. Even though the Gel wasn't a long ball for my driver... WOW.. it was 10 yards long off every iron I hit it with. Once I realized that, BAM... was getting on the green if I hit it straight. Again, there was no sign of a slice or hook. 8 iron full swing distance averaged 130-140. How is it so long off the irons, yet not the driver???

Wedges - OK.. this is wierd and I can't explain it. I'll leave that to Boz. How the hell can you make a ball that apparently doesn't have a lot of spin off full driver, wood or long iron shots (as evidenced by no slice or hook from me!). But yet, when you hit it with a wedge or short iron the dang thing spins like crazy??? I didn't have ONE shot roll out more than 5-6 feet on the green when hit with an 8 - SW.

Pitching/Chipping/Putting - As enthusiastic as I've already sounded you'd think I was about done. Around the green and ON the green is where this Gel shines for me. I've never played a ball that felt so good with short pitches, chips and putts. I thought because of the iron action I was getting, it was going to play just a little hot on those. Heck, it was like buttering toast! A nice firm feel to the ball and just when you thought you may have mishit it a bit... it rolls 8" from the cup. SHEESH! I'm really amazed. Something in almost every shot told me I hit it the ball either too hard, or too soft. Yet my long putts either went in or lagged close. Short puts (inside 10') felt almost automatic.

I guess the summary of this is... WOW! I'm definitely impressed. I only hope the rest of the balls play as well for me as this one.

I told ya this was going to be a wierd review!!

I'll probably be giving the same kind of wierd stuff on the rest of 'em too! LOL!

Oh.. and the glove.. .fits like a glove! I really like the texture of it and the dry feel. It was 92 here yesterday and I had no problem with sweaty hands or slipping.

I havent had a chance to get to the course, but I made it to the range today. Started out hitting a bucket with the glove. As much as I loved it when I put it on at home, I actually didnt like it when hitting balls. The problem is not the glove, its the sizing. It is a Large and I need an XL for the length. The width was great, but the pad on the heel of the palm didnt come down all the way.

 

On to the putting green, which is always my first stop in testing balls. Typically, if a ball doesnt pass the putting green tests, it goes into my sons bags directly. I started with the yellow balls (minus the Russel, I think my youngest snatched it) first and the clear cut winner was the x3. It felt perfect coming off the putter and I had no problem dialing in the distance. So I kept that one in, and brought in the whites and the pinky. I had problems with the pinky. I could not get the distance figured out on it. Inside of 5 feet, I had no problems with, but still didnt quite care for the color. Longer putts, I couldnt lag to save my life. The Yellow X3 was still the top pick, but the white gel was pretty sweet too. I was surprised at the difference in feel between the white and yellow X3s. They do not feel like the same ball at all. The arctics were a bit too clicky for my taste and I had problems with the distance on these, but not as bad as the pinky. I have to add that every ball rolled straight and kept its line nicely.

 

And last, but far from least was the prototype. This ball completely rocked. I put it head to head against my tour yellow Z star X and it completely blew the Srixon away. I thought the Z star was my perfect ball although I had the tendency to leave it a little short. The proto made the srixon feel like a range ball. I say put these balls into production right away, they are perfect the way they are.

 

Hopefully, I will get these balls onto a course soon, but with the new school season started this week, my schedule sucks. More to come

well, I can tell you the Arctic balls don't float...

I suppose I have to admit to losing more than 1 test ball. But that happens when you play a course with water Hazards on 15 of the 18 holes. Actually I believe that the one Boz is talking about was the ball I took woth me on Holidays. Played it on a course that only had 1 water hazard that was not realy in play anyway. Pulled out the prototype ball & shanked it straight into said Hazard. Did not get much of a feel for that one.

Hendricks , I believe Boz is trying to get the UV ball closer in regards to Feel to the white X3. At the moment the UVX3 is more like the Gel ball IMO.

Played 18 with the yellow X3 this morning. To sum up the experience, my playing partner said "You need to buy five dozen of those balls."

Crushingly long off the tee and irons. Felt much better the second round through off the putter.

If I didn't duff the f-ing 3 hybrid three times, I would have broke 90 for the first time ever.

 

One question. Can they be made with different numbers? A group of us are playing in a tournament for our friend who passed from brain cancer this past year.

My buddy today thought it would be cool to have all of us play the yellow balls with our friends former jersey number, 17. He was a player and long time coach at CSU Sacramento whose colors are yellow (gold) and green.

 

Liking this ball more and more. The yellow color is amazing during flight and on the turf.

After 8 hours on my feet, I wasn't up for a very long practice/test session today but I will report what I learned. I brought out the Russell and the Tour Sample along with 2 Pentas. As much as I thought I loved the Pentas, I think that they are a little too mushy on the green. The Russell I think is just right. If the Penta was a 10/10 on softness (which was too soft for me), Russell was about an 8 and the Tour Proto was a 6.75. I also chipped a bit and found the performance of both to be very satisfactory. Again, not a ton of time spent or info gathered, but it was the start of what will be a very long, but enjoyable, process.

Well, I went out this morning to my local range to hit a bucket and chip and putt using the vision balls. After loosening up, I went to the chipping green to test the balls. I use my normal lot (penta, gamer, noodle, soft-feel and z-star yellow) and the vision golf balls (fantom yellow, hi-soft, the x-3, arctic, pinky uvx3 and the gel).

 

 

Chipping

 

My first impression was wow the vision balls seem much brighter out in the sun. Especially the fantom yellow, I also noticed that is glows in the dark inside as well (when I was putting my clubs and balls away, the Russell was glowing). I can't wait to get to a course and drive them. I am not a hacker that plays a lot of spin on his shots, I prefer to hit the ball just short and let it roll. My chips with the normal lot did what I expected; they would hit the front of the green on just off the green and roll toward their destination. The penta is my favorite ball around the green by the way.

 

Next I trialed the vision balls, and they performed better than expected. They felt great coming off of my wedges not hard (like hitting a rock), but soft and I was able to develop a feel from that. I had four favorites out the vision balls; the fantom yellow and white, the gel and the x3. I particularly liked the large printing on the balls, it made it much easier to see the spin and I was able to attempt to correct my mistakes when I made them.

 

Putting

 

Again, I went through my normal lot and proceeded to use the vision balls.

 

*Side note#1: At this time a small crowd was gathering (about three other guys). They started asking questions about the balls, they were mostly interested in the UV balls. I tried to explain the UV concept to them as best as I could and suggested to them they should visit visiongolfball.com or mygolfspy.com for more info.

 

Back to the putting. I was surprised at how soft the balls felt coming off of the putter (using my mygolfspy SeeMore). I was able to gauge the distances fairly well and the markings on the balls were big helps. I again had the four same favorites; the fantom yellow and white, the gel and the x3.

*Side note #2: Two of the three guys stuck around and I let them putt with the vision balls. They really liked the gel and x3. They were still trying to get used to the bright UV color. They asked where I got the balls and I said that the company is in Australia and has some of the fastest shipping around.

 

The glove and other swag

The glove – it was great. I loved how the tackiness stayed with me for the duration of my chipping. It has not been humid here and I was hoping it would be really humid or raining to give it a good test.

The hat – My head has a tendency to sweat more than other people's and the hat wicked most of the sweat from my head. I do not think there is a hat out there that can soak up all my sweat.

 

I can't wait to get the vision balls out on the course and put them into a game situation. Thanks Boz and mygolfspy for all the hard work that went into making this possible. Interesting thing happened today: pulled up to my course and the Bridgestone guys were doing free ball fittings. I was talking to them and went though the fitting process comparing the Bridgestones to my normal Cally i(z). Then I remembered: I have a sleeve of Vision UV X3's in the bag! So I asked if they minded giving me a reading on them. They were VERY interested in the X3! They did the reading and for my swing the UV X3 came in very similar to the Bridgestone e6. They said I should hit the Vision a bit straighter but the e6 could give me a few more yards, it was really close. It was a really cool to be able to compare it that way, wish I'd had some of the other Vision balls in the bag, I'm planning on breaking out the UV X3s for a scramble tomorrow!

Where have I heard that before??? In Australia we have the same problem it would appear. If the packaging isn't a well known brand name people wont buy the ball because Tiger/Phil/Jim/Sergio doesn't use them.

 

A lot of where Boz has got to so far has come from the internet and not retail because as he says he is not trying to make a ball that the pro's will use but a ball that us mugs can use and get better results with.

 

There have been some great reviews written up so far and it is really interesting sitting back here and reading your thoughts on balls I have used. A lot of similarities to what has been written up here.

 

I too have to put my hand up and say that one/maybe two of Boz's trail balls have either A been lost or B meet a watery grave which I find to be a shattering experience. Especially when you have in your possession a trail ball that is the best thing that you have hit for a long time and for some unexplained reason you manage to find that shot that leads to its demise.

Took the balls out for a test run yesterday. I have to be honest, I wasn't a fan of the X3's. That being said, they were exactly as you promoted them; they were long, straight, soft (off the putter and irons, felt like a rock off the woods), and very easy to see, especially the UV's. I didn't get any spin with the X3's, I would definitely agree with Bridgestones assessment (from Tyks post) that they were like an E6. Now on to the Gels, I loved them. The Pinky is a beast; the first hole I used it was on a par 5 that snakes between two lakes. The far lake up the left side was 318 according to the GPS and I carried the ball into it, yes carried it into the lake. I used the Gel for the few holes and it was not quite as long, but it felt great and had spin around the greens. Once we got away from the water holes, I pulled the other Pinky out and hit 3 consecutive drives that went 321, 317, and 345 (these were according to the GPS and the last was straight down wind). Not only was the Pinky long, but it was soft and had great spin. I hit a 58* from 60yds out with it and it took two hops before coming back about 10'. If I had regular access to the Pinky, I would probably make it my gamer. Not a huge fan of the pink, but I could deal with it for the results. Overall, the balls are exactly how you state they will be. I would proudly play them and the guy I played with was also very impressed (I let him test them with me, but when I realized how awesome the Gel and Pinky were, I immediately took them away from him).

 

Great product Boz. How much do the Pinkys run and how do I go about ordering a box?

I got to spend some time with the Vision golfballs today,

 

I selected the UV X3

 

Went to the putting green.....as suggested, I was playing with a group of guys who made alot of tacky comments about the flourescent yellow color which I ignored. It took a little while to get used to the soft touch off the putter.....was plenty short at first, but as I got used to them, I began to stroke through the ball and noticed a much better result.....during my round today, I was consistenlty close but as the day got hotter, the greens dried out more and my putts started doing a Linda Rondstat on the hole...."Blue Bayou..." so I had to re-adjust....overall, I liked the soft feel when putting. I tried both alignmemt aides....the VISION was good for short to medium putts and the website address worked well for longer putts.

 

I was somewhat dissappointed with the X3 off my driver....felt like a rock and did not achieve my normal distance....my drives were about 20 yds shorter than usual....even when I crushed it....the result was considerbly shorter. The ball seemed to respond correctly, it just ended up shorter than usual. I have an 80 to 87 mph swing speed...my driver is the PowerBilt Air Force One Air Foil 10.5* with Fujukura E-350 regular shaft....my drives are normally 195 to 235, with an occasional 250 yds.

 

The fairway wood and hybrid shots felt good....I got my normal distance from the 3 wood (180 - 190), 5 wood (170), 3 Hybrid (185) & 4 Hybrid (170) yards. Coming off the clubface the ball felt like it had some pop.

 

The irons were where the X3 excelled. From my 5 iron to my sand wedge(56*), the X3 popped off the clubface and traveled through the air as it was designed to do....I had several approach shots from 160 to 75 yds. that were spot on.

 

I used one UV X3for the entire day....until the last hole, when I was in deep rough with a 70 yd approach to the green. I chunked it into the creek running across the fairway in front of the green.....it was too deep to retrieve....so deep I could not retrieve it....it was not the balls fault....it was mine...I did not get my SW into the rough from a vertical angle....and when I tried to sweep through it, the deep thick grass grabbed the clubhead and wouldn't let go....end result was lost ball in the creek.

 

Final score was a 92 for the day.....should have been an 88.

 

Overall, I had no trouble locating the ball when I went into the rough and eventually got used to the yellow color....I still have four more in my bag....

Hey Mike, good story and info, it is interesting to understand that most players hit their driver harder than their irons and as such a ball that mght give you more driver distance may not work as efficiently with their iron swing and the reverse is true.

 

I am not sure that the Proshops will be my focus because the way Titleist/Callaway contracts the shops like in Oz they tend to have no room for me as the pressure is quite intense to keep me in check.

 

That is why no matter what your ball choice is you are still going to have to make a few compromises in line with what really helps you to go low.

 

Also my players tend to find after playing my designs for a while they tend to learn more about how they can better max out the balls performance.

 

Hi Hen, The prototypes are close to an initial go, I am looking at running 3 colours in a small pre full production test batch that I will be selling in Oz and maybe the States to get more on course info a little later in the year.

Hi Tyk, The Bridgestone boys don't have any info on their computers for my designs and as such they can never understand why the perform so well yet are not on the radar yet. Thanks for sharing the info. They will release a Limited Edition E6 Yellow and Orange ball next month so they might have had that also on their mind.

 

Hey JB, As you can see the balls will perform differently depending on the swingspeeds and angle of attack.

 

I will look at a deal for the MGS TP guys that is practical in the near future ex Oz so long as I can cover costs this process is not so much about selling you gear as finding out whether my designs will be able to find their own place in your golf industry or will they just be seen as another Volvik or novelty brand?

 

Hi Foz, ok good info and as we go through the different balls I will know more about your driver approach but here is a few things to think about.

 

The X3 is used by some women and senior player groups here in Oz to good effect as they are a little higher in compression terms but not high in real terms so many players like the soft solid feel over balls like the Gel. They do not spin alot with driver shots and as such tend to benefit from a little more tee height and a more sweeping angle of attack to get their optimum launch angle for some players and the extra yards they sometimes feel may be missing especially with driver swingspeeds below 90 mph.

I forgot to add that while I was out playing yesterday, I fell off a 30' mound (well more like a cliff) and got a rather hefty strawberry on my forearm, just below my elbow. My shoulder, hip, and back all hurt like hell today. My buddy had tears in his eyes from laughing, before he asked if I was alright. I had not been drinking at all before this happened, just lost my footing.
