Vision Golf Ball - US Test Pilot Project - MyGolfSpy

Recommended Posts

I forgot to add that while I was out playing yesterday, I fell off a 30' mound (well more like a cliff) and got a rather hefty strawberry on my forearm, just below my elbow. My shoulder, hip, and back all hurt like hell today. My buddy had tears in his eyes from laughing, before he asked if I was alright. I had not been drinking at all before this happened, just lost my footing.

Played 18 with the Artic White yesterday. It was about 5-10 yds longer than the Gel for me from the driver. Irons were about the same as the gel and putter was nice, but nothing special for me. It was hard for me to dial in putting distances, but I was on a new course with greens that had LOTS of hills/breaks/etc.I don't know if that was the ball, or if I was just not reading things well. I'll reserve any further comment about that to a time when I can take it to a putting green.

The driver being longer I also am not so sure about. Either that ball was longer, or I was absolutely smoking the drives for a change. I HAVE been improving lately, so it may have just been my technique.

All in all though, I really liked the Artic White and found it easy to keep my eyes on and like the gel, a great ball around the greens. :)

Hi Hen, well as you know there are plenty of woman and seniors playing ProV1

and ProV1X that just make me shake my head somedays, so a few playing the X3

with its core compression set to be a little more forgiving than the ProV1

makes sense.

Hi JB, over time you will see the variation in your weekly game

and the different balls ability, just a learning curve and what

will usually happen is when you are on song a certain ball will

be a better fit and when its one of those bad days pull out the UV

or the Gel.

Thanks for the feedback Boz, I plan on trying the Arctic White next week....but won't give up on the X3..as I really liked the putting action and iron play.....I can tee it up higher and see if it flies....I don't mind getting razzzed by others ....I am used to it....My favorite sports teams are:

University of Kentucky Wildcats

Tampa bay Lightning

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Storm

Tampa Bay Rays

To date my teams have NCAA National Championship Basketball, Stanley Cup, Superbowl Champion, Arena Bowl Champion & World Series Finals....

I also play with PowerBilt Driver & irons.....not the regular most popular clubs from Golf Digest...and I get a lot of ribbing from the PowerBilt Fuzzy Zoeller infomercial....Air Force One Nitrogen charged driver.

I really love it when I beat them!

I finally got out to the range today and was able to test the glove. In one word: GREAT. First of all, it's great when it's dry. Lots of tack in the glove allows you to relax the grip a bit. The club has been getting squirrely in my hands at the top lately, but not today. Second, nature decided to really test this glove by giving me a downpour in the middle of my range session. The glove did not slack a minute, it shrugged off the rain and kept my hand glued to the club.

Glove: A+

Now if I could actually go out and PLAY GOLF, I could test these balls. Stupid work.

JB, bad luck for sure and here I was saying to the guys in the lab

that I don't really get hurt playing golf unlike basketball or

baseball but them I don't climb to many large mounds at my course.

Hi Foz, Your welcome I see you enjoy a challenge! :)

Matt, I think it is pretty cool as well that it is so useful

in the type of conditions that sometimes make you think twice

about playing any more. Work is a priority though.

As a long term user of Boz's balls, trust me they do putt differently to other balls. This has been a long held view by users in Australia that these balls do not take as much break as you normally allow for with other balls.

Once you can convince the mind of this fact the rest on some days can be easy.

Yanno Pegasus... I am really liking everything that Boz sent me to try out.

The hat is fabulous. I'm a pretty heavy perspirer (is that a word??) and with most hats, sweat just drips from the brim late in the round. With Boz's Vision hat, that has NOT happened once in 3 rounds in 90 degree temps.

The tees - heh.. I love plastic tees just for the durability. Haven't broken one yet!

The balls I've played so far are durable and I'm hitting them well. I can't wait to try out the rest of them and will be playing in a game on Friday with some co-workers. Wait till they see how those balls glow as they go thru the air!

The glove, as said above.. is GREAT. It has not shown a single tendency to slip, no matter how much I have sweated or gotten anything on it.

HEY BOZ ... if ya want to come to Cheyenne, Wyoming and set up shop, I'll guarantee you ONE customer at least! LOL! (But then again, you've got one anyway and I have to pay the shipping so that is probably out of the question huh?) :)

I took Pinky and the X3 out to the putting green this morning for a little pre-work practice. Having found the Penta to be too soft, I returned to the TP Black as my comparison ball. I found both the X3 and Pinky to be within a whisper of the TP Black in terms of softness of the putter, and it was just about perfect. There was a nice crisp note of feedback, but nothing harsh at all. Judging distance was very easy. One surprise was that off the wedges, both balls felt more solid than crisp. More of a "thunk" than a "click."

The Pinky is amazingly long (probably the longest ball I've ever hit) and soft. I'd say with driver distance I was averaging about 285 with the X3, but probably in the 315 range with the pinky; I hover right around the 305yd mark with Pro V's and Cally tours. I was however hitting my driver great this weekend.

Ok.. Now I'm even more anxious to hit the pinky! Maybe I'll play THAT this Friday. :)

I'm telling you, they are awesome. I was sold after the first drive, but when the ball spun from a wedge, it blew my mind. I was putting on fast greens (probably 10-12) and had no problem controlling the distance.

Hey Pom! Now that is what I call "going whole hog", is there anything you don't have? Boz must love you!

I would like to get back to Brisbane next year, being currently unemployed is a bit of a drawback as I have to choose between eating and playing golf, I know - no brainer really, so I play golf.

I was thinking of asking my good friend in BNE, Ted Potts, to buy and send me some Pinkies as I am intrigued with the write ups.

I used the balls for the first time this week; first of all on an open field with a mowed straw texture, only used my 60 deg Woods Bros wedge but found all the balls went further than the other stock balls in my bag, Bridgestones and ProV1s.

I was surprised with how straight they went, easy to see in the air, easy to see on the ground, spent 15 minutes hunting for the Proto though as it hunkered down in the straw, found 6 other balls by accident and then Bingo found the proto.

Used them on my local course on Sunday, too scared to use them over water and with good reason! but used them everywhere else, flew straight, no side spin, held in the wind very nicely - which was a pity as I aimed into the wind expecting to be blown back but no it went dead straight. I really liked them, they scuff the same as other balls but I did not have to dig polymer out of the wedge grooves as I usually do. I am going to give these a really good work out as I don't yet have a favourite.

If Boz reads this, the towel is great but needs a golf bag attachment, I sewed a key ring to it so I can hang it on my bag. Glove was also great, I did not slip off any clubs at the top of the swing and did not get too sweaty, I find most gloves cinch up too tight around the wrist so I end up leaving them a bit slacker there but the velcro then irritates the skin, happens with most gloves, the tab needs to be a bit longer and the velcro area a bit shorter if you get my drift, no I do not have fat wrists.

I don't normally pay $5 a ball as I pick up really good lost balls out walking the course with my dog and keep the best for myself, did I mention I was cheap? But I would pay for these balls; you just need a method of getting them on view so the general public sees and plays them, I think your tack of "game improvement balls" is a good one so long as they don't get lost in the plethora of other "golf improvement" stuff that makes our eyes glaze over. Boz sent me a "ladies Ball" it says so in plain print but I manned up and played it anyway and it performed really well! I marked all my balls with my standard "S" an das you know even permanent ink does not stick to this surface, had this with a few other balls so what I do is soak for a few minutes in dishwashing liquid and then slightly scuff with a nylon pad, that way the "S" sticks and does not rub off, these things are too beautiful to do that too! Anyway nobody else is playing them here in this part of Canada, I think, so it should not be a problem.

Last note to Boz, many ladies here buy and use coloured balls so these should go over well, I would not mind trying them out with a couple of the ladies recreational leagues for THEIR feedback, could be a market that way. Have a think.

Cheers all, its bucketing down with rain for the first time in weeks I bet I could get on one of the local courses CHEAP right now!

More to come as I use these things and thanks for the opportunity, it put more interest into my game.

Musqueam was my local for the past few years, lived in Dunbar, played mud golf all winter, not bad $250 for 5 months golf! Good way to lose balls, hit the fairway and ...gone! Buried. Just moved back to Richmond so started playing the Mylora courses again, cheap enough but my favourite is Country Meadows, best shortish course anywhere, best drained and good golf. Played Green Acres lots, ventured further afield to Peace Portal, ideal for a workout!, Nico Wynd is excellent for a 9 hole/2 pin placement course but full size, best deal anywhere is Newlands in Langley, excellent course and cheap, last time I played there is $25 incl power cart!!! I have not played the other courses you mentioned though.

Was offered a cut price membership at Quilchena private golf course, offered to cut $10000 from the membership fee, how could I pass up on that? Easy.

Hi Guys, good updates and info which is really helpful and interesting. This format has worked well in a few markets to make me more aware of different player perceptions of the designs as they are currently presented.

Mike : Thanks for the invite. :D One day I will go back on the road to properly promote the Vision story but at present I am happy to just look at how players respond to the performance of the different balls and concepts.

The STICKY glove is working on so many levels with players that have trialled it.

I will look at a deal for any TP that will just cover some of the costs (without being too expensive) as a thank you for the ongoing help and support.

Spes : Good info and on plenty of elements and thanks for sharing as it is really helpful.

The Game Improvement story is understood and I agrree but my approach is more High Performance for players loooking to play better with Visibility being a key angle of approach. This is a Premium section of the Japanese market and I believe I can create the same niche in Nth America.

The Towel is more for you than the clubs, what I am looking at is a black towel for your bag with a fitting as you described.

The Ladies are big supporters of my ideas here in Oz and whereever I have tested plus they will really like the new symbols I will use instead of numbers as things develop plus our colours are all findable which is key to our success.

The Tour Lady has a very special core formulation that tends to suit guys more so that was part of my reason for including it.

Thanks for the glove info, I will have a look into the shape to see if the tabs might be altered.

JB : The Pinky will be joined by the TruBlue version at the end of the year with the same performance plus I am looking at a new type of UV in Bright White but this is still a work in progress ( it glows a blue hue!)

Matt : The feel I am going for is a Soft / Solid overall feel which extends to the sound as that is as important as the actual feel.

Thanks again for all the feedback,

Boz.

Do you know your trouble Boz? You are a professional who understands customer service, a real dinosaur. You will frighten the other guys if you are not careful, chances are they don't bother with these forums so you will be ok. What a concept - play with gear that the pros don't use and improve your game. Extend this concept to clubs and you could have lots of people enjoying their golf more, playing faster, not frustrated and not "having" to spend tons on the latest Pro clubs they could never hit. I know there are a few out there doing that but there are so many bad ones it gives the rest a bad name.

Good luck with this, I am really impressed with the various comments and people don't pull any punches they are to eager to please just because they got a free sample to try out.

HiSpes, Thanks for the support and I thought there might be a longterm market to work with on other products after the balls find players for me.

The issue you addressed in reagrds to supplying product for review, I have become very selective on where I trial this current approach as the real views of players is way to important to my longterm design work and yes I am more than happy with everyone's approach to date which has been both interesting and thoughtful.

Keep up the good work guys as it is appreciated,

Boz.

I played the UVX3 yesterday for 14 holes before it took a dive into some weeds and wouldn't come out. I really never connected with it on my driver, it felt a little hard but not bad, and the distance was ok, perhaps a bit less than I'm used to, but it could have been because I never really pured it. Like the X3, this ball is long and feels nice with full iron shots. I had one shot in particular, and uphill 170 yard shot to a front pin where I really didn't feel like I caught it well and figured I was going to end up short. The ball carried onto the green and I was pleasantly surprised, when I got up to it, it was on the BACK of the green!

Again I'm not a huge fan of the feel with the chip shots, but I am adjusting to them and getting better results. I'm playing a roll out shot and once you adjust to doing that the balls perform predictably, which is really all one could ask.

I did really like putting with the UVX3, I like the double alignment aids and like the feel off the putter, its seems to come off the putter perhaps a little hot, but that suits me fine as I am NOT a "die it in" putter and I'll take a ball 3 feet past over 3" short ANY time!

I really dig the yellow color, its just so nice to be 150 yards away and be able to see your ball and know "there I am" while everyone else is scrambling around looking for thiers! Tracking it in the air is great too, it reminds me a watching a Star Wars laser beam!

I've still got two left, I'm getting used to them and coming around a bit on my feelings about the greenside performance, it just takes some getting used to!

AW, where do you get your Vision balls? You say you have been playing them 3 months now? Who's your dealer?

Lost my first ball today, hit mid fairway and took a strange bounce and dived into the muddiest pool at Mylora 5 rd, bummer.

Shanked another into trees and brambles, found 6 other balls looking for it, finally found it. Wounds will heal.

I was comparing it with a few Wilson Staff balls, performed a bit better, certainly did not scuff as badly, about 5 yards longer on average and hit a bit straighter but if I go on at this rate I will be out of stock in a few weeks.

BTW Boz. got the pack. is there anything you would like to twell me about the Balls or do i just take them out & find out what you have sent me?

No lake shots Huh? That leaves me with hole 7, A par 3, & hole 13 a short par 4.Hmmmmm. This could prove to be a bit of a problem.  :D

speszel: As Pom said, I purchase right from Boz himself as well

I know shipping to Canada sucks for him with custom fees and the like so larger orders are probably better for him but don't quote me on this.

I laught at your claims to fight a zombie apocalypse when most of you can't stand up to a Spider

finally got my wife to come to the range with me this morning. I had her try out the 2 fantom balls and the pinky comparing them to her Callaway Solaires. Let me start by giving a bit of her background. She is one of the most non technical people I know. She also has one of the worst golf swings Ive ever seen, but she has Fibromyalgia and a curve in her spine and is unable to straighten her back. She enjoys playing but hates practicing.

I threw her balls onto the practice green and walked away to continue my own testing (UV X3 still on top). I asked her which one she liked so far. She went with the Callaway because it went in the cup more often. We started looking into the sound and feel off the putter head. According to her, the Callaway was too clicky and hard, the Fantoms were both clicky (she couldnt tell any difference between the 2 Fantoms) but rolled better than the Callway, but the Pinky sounded perfect, rolled smoother, but had trouble figuring out how hard to hit it. I told her not to worry about that, it will come. Right now, just figure out which one you like more. She was actually really excited about how she would hit the Pinkys on the course, but we didnt have time.

Nothing helps you find a lost ball better than a provisional hit straight down the middle.
