that's very cool!  I would think the thickness of the heatshrink would make it hard to get the grip on....looks awesome

Depends on the grip, but it's basically just a few layers of tape.  Nothing different than building up the grip a few wraps.  Superstroke was tight, but I got it on with a little elbow grease :)

edit:  You could also just cut the tubing right at the end of the grip so just the very end is tucked under the grip.

A buddy of mine coats guns and stuff and in was gonna get him to do some of my shafts this year but this is even easier. Thanks for the heads up! Should work the same on irons shafts too huh?

Might add a couple grams of weight, but the tubing itself would work.

I have a buddy that owns a paint shop and he's painted a few different iron shafts which has also worked very well.  A knick in the paint wouldn't be a huge deal, but I would think a knick in the tubing would eventually keep spreading and peal off.

Good point, didn't think about that. I'm gonna at least do this with my putter. Thanks again.

There are multiple sizes of this stuff on ebay. What dimensions of the shrink should I get?

Everything I am reading says 16mm to fit over a .610 shaft butt. For those that are metric challenged that is 5/8".

Isn't that thickness of material and not inner diameter of the product?

Chris

5/8" or 16mm is correct.  That's the size you want.

Also should note make sure to look at the pictures when ordering.  Some of this stuff comes with stamped lettering on the outside and I'm guessing nobody wants that on their putters :)

That's the stuff I bought.  Doesn't say if 2:1 or 3:1.  I would think either would be fine though, it's just how much it shrinks down and either one will shrink small enough to be tight around the hosel.

50 feet???? Planning on doing your whole set or do you have lots of putters? My biggest concern is how it changes the feel of the putter. But that is subjective and I probably have to try it and see what I think

Personally I can't tell any difference in feel.  YMMV but the shaft in a putter isn't doing a lot and the weight isn't noticeable to me.

I guess on on the other side of the coin and think that vibrations contribute to feel and do come up the shaft I know grips will significantly impact how a putter feels. I just think the wrap may dampen the feel But for a few bucks it would be a fun experiment.

I have several putters and I was also thinking about dong my wedges. You won't notice any weight difference, maybe 5-10gm. I will weigh my next one before and after yo find out for sure.

For a heat source I use a heat gun.  Not sure if a hair dryer would get hot enough, it may but it would take longer.

I just weighed the stuff I have.  34" of if weighs 16 grams.  So just under 1/2 gram per inch.  Since the weight is distributed evenly over the entire shaft I really can't tell the difference.  I also have not noticed any "dampening" effect on feedback.  If I hit it on the toe or heel I can still tell.

You can get 8' for $7 shipped.  That's easily enough to do 2 putters.  Pretty cheap experiment if you want a black shaft and if you don't like it you can just cut it off.

Fair enough. I do like heavy clubs.

Except I recently went back to my X7's(around 135grams I think) and I'd hate to know what they felt like with 16g added lol.

That's the stuff I bought.  Doesn't say if 2:1 or 3:1.  I would think either would be fine though, it's just how much it shrinks down and either one will shrink small enough to be tight around the hosel.

I got the same one but could not for the life of me get it over the butt end of the club. Was it easy to slip on because it seems too small to go over the grip end?
