GolfSpy Barbajo 9,641
Wilson announced its new Super game improvement offerings today - the D300 irons and metal woods. Have had the chance to try them over the weekend - duly impressed with both. The irons are even easier to hit than the D200's, if such a thing is possible. Adding the FLX Face Tech to the irons has given them a much softer, almost forged like sound and feel. Impressive for an SGI irons. Like the Steelheads, JGR Hybrid irons and others in that niche, they go VERY high with the stock shafts - with some carry to them. The metal woods aren't bad, either -- stock shaft as the Matrix Speed Rulz A type -- 44 grams with a no upcharge option for the 65 gram. These are also designed to help get the ball up in the air and get some carry - but I played a D200 for the season 2 years ago with a RIP Phenon NL shaft and loved it. The sound is not nearly as tinny as the D200, as well -- it's much more muted and "thwacky." Blogs posts on each today. Click here to check out the irons, and here to check out the metal woods. Gotta say, some of the comments on the metal woods blog are borderline hilarious, if not particularly enlightened Thoughts? 3 Quote What's in the bag: Driver: TSi3 FW Wood: PXG Gen4 2-wood Hybrids: PXG Gen4 18-degree Utility Irons: Staff Model Utilities 18, 21, 24* Irons:; PXG 0211; Pro Combo; FTX Combo;'99 Apex Plus; '99 Apex blades; 2010 VIP irons; VIP 1025 V-Foil MB/CB; Wedges: RTZ ZipCore: Riviera 52-56-60 Putter: Newport Special Select; Willamette, BB8; Buckingham; MATI Monto Ball: Tour B X; Z-STAR XV; Triad Stat Tracker/GPS Watch: Follow @golfspybarbajo
Kenny B 34,293
Well, now I have to go over to the blog to read the comments!! The driver is just [insert funny comment here] looking. I can't get past the Ping G30 look, and this makes no sense. As for the irons, if they put the "D300" tag where it says 'FLX Face" and got rid of the red, it would look much better IMHO. EDIT: Some of the comments are pretty comical. It's just me trying to get past the look of the bumps on any club. I'll be seriously looking at the MGS Most Wanted testing. Maybe the bumps will give 2.5 mph increase in club head speed over the D200, but they don't give the SS associated with the claim. I seriously doubt that lower SS players (typically associated with this clubs market) will see anything close to that. 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Miboy62 1,897
The driver could double as a back scratcher. I would be willing to give it a try. 1 Quote Stealth + 9* Stealth + 3 wood Stealth + 5 wood Rogue ST Max 4i/AW Jaws Raw 50/10 54/10 58/8 GT Spider TP5X 21/
Rtracymog 838
The C200s really launched the ball high and they didn't go strong enough on the lofts to compete with some other companies in that category. Hopefully Wilson did go strong enough here because I can imagine how easy these things will be to get in the air. Orange Hog 329
The irons look fine but like the D200s I hate the slots on the top line. It's just a weird look to me aesthetically. As for the woods/hybrids, everything looks great except the bumps on the crown. I truly applaud W/S and Ping for trying to optimize the aerodynamics of their drivers but I really struggle to believe that the average golfer sees any discernible benefit from these being on the crown. If you stripped those away the matte look on the crown is amazing. When I look down at my golf club I want to see something pleasing to the eye and these just don't do it for me. I'm sure they perform. Heck, I've got buddies who still rock the D200 and bomb that thing.

Golfspy_CG2 34,006
Really nice offering from Wilson. But being honest, just based on looks I don't know if either the irons or driver will get a look from me this year. I had both the D200 irons and driver, and the irons were very solid, and they were much better (for me) than the TM CB's that preceded them in my bag from a forgiveness standpoint. However, I then put them up against the CF16's and G30's and both outperformed the D200's. So I'm hesitant to give them another look, I did try the C200's with the FLX Face and they were nice but again nothing that stood out from my other irons. It's a shame as I really want to LOVE Wilson Staff and be a devoted player of it's stuff, I mean i grew up with Wilson gear in baseball and tennis, but nothing from them golf wise has knocked my socks off. Don't get me wrong, it's not the inferior product that some guys who still have the head buried in the sand claim, but I just don't think they have any one product that stands above any of the other offerings out there. I love they are trying to be innovative with the MVG concept, but until I see some definitive proof that it really adds any club-head that translates to higher ball speed, then I just don't buy it. southgaballer 2
Not sure if this the right thread but, I am playing V4s right now. What's the reason to switch to the V6s from y'all's perspective? GolfSpy Barbajo 9,641
Not sure if this the right thread but, I am playing V4s right now. What's the reason to switch to the V6s from y'all's perspective? TIA! I have gamed the V4's and am trying out the V6's...very similar. I'd say the biggest differences are the AMT shafts that are stock, combined with some changes in weighting to the mid and long irons. Long irons are stupid easy to hit (not that the V4's were hard, but there's a noticeable difference). This might help: https://www.mygolfspy.com/2017-wilson-fg-tour-v6-irons/ For what it's worth - V4's and Srixon V765's are the two best irons I've ever hit. V6's are a worthy successor to the V4 - the improvements are tangible. It's not a night and day holy crap kind of difference, but there's improvement.
