What clubs do you relace most frequently?

After 10 years in my bag it looks as if my old Vodoo Daddy may be gone. So it's caused me to reflect on what clubs or types of clubs that I replace most frequently. Here's the roster that has shared bag space not counting what I've tried out:

Drivers: G2, Rapture, Mizuno 700, Adams, R11s, SLDR, G30

Fairways, Cobra EZ, Adams, R11, Adams, Callaway x hot extremes

Hybrids, Cobra, Adams Idea Pros, Nicklaus something or other, Callaway, SLDR

Irons, Adams Idea pros, Nicklaus Iron Max, Wilson C100, Wilson C200

Wedges, Pings of some sort, SCOR

The drivers were all fit either before or after purchase. The Idea Pros and the Nicklaus irons were reshafted as I made the transition to lighter steel, to graphite to R flex shafts. I've been 2 degrees flat forever so that's what they are.

I played my best golf with the Adams driver, Cobra FW, Adams hybrid, Nicklaus iron, Ping wedge bag. I got sick one summer and that plus age took a little off my fastball. Since that time I've not been able to get back below a 3 index.

We have a Titleist fitting day at the club in a few weeks. I'm thinking of giving driver a try there. I don't know why other than because I'm able to. :)

How about you guys?

How often do you change clubs? Do you do it in units like I do or full sets, other than putter, at a time?

Interestingly if I had to rank the parts of my game strongest to darkest it would be as follows: Chipping, Putting, Driving, Short irons, Hybrids/5 wood, Mid irons, 3 wood.

My mid irons and 3 wood are very sub-standard for my handicap. Chipping and putting are above average, Driving and short irons are spot on average - what I loose in distance I gain in accuracy. Sadly I don't get to hit my shirt irons enough to take advantage of my strengths there.

I've gone through a few drivers - usually when I'm struggling. Played the Cobra King LTD all last season, and it never felt 'right' I tried out a Cobra King F6 in December, and bought it on the spot. Put my old shaft in it, and it fits like an old shoe. Not any longer, but it's more controlled.

I use a fairway wood once in awhile, but usually leave it at home...

I played Cobra Pro MB's for quite awhile, and never felt like I could get the ball high with them.

Since changing to Titleist 712MB's, I feel like my irons are all strong. I can hit deadly accurate with the short irons, high/low/right/left/whatever.

I really have confidence with the 3 iron to get me out of trouble - I love calling a shot out of the trees and seeing it happen. ;)

I've been through several wedges - Phil Rodgers Rusty, Vokey, SCOR, etc. always come back to the 2009 Vokeys. Mine are beaten, rusty, etc. but I keep the grooves sharp. I play a Vokey 48* pw, 54* sw, and 60* lw. Used to go 48-52-56-60, but it just isn't necessary for me.

Putters... I have posted lots of putter pics here, because I love to refurb old ones. Some I collect, some I sell. So, I'm a putter ho, but they never go in the bag.

I game 1 of 3 Scotties - a Studio Design 1 with a full shaft of offset, a Circa 62 #1 with 3/4 shaft of offset, and a Studio Design 2 with 1/2 shaft of offset. All 3 have the same weight, toe hang, etc. All black with black paint fill and a black leather cover. (No 'steal me' head covers or 'look at me' paint schemes) I normally only switch between them if I start to push or pull my putts - a little change in offset gets me back in line.

I guess it depends on if you mean replace for a couple rounds or replace for good.  I actually ended last season with the same bag setup I used the previous 2 seasons.  I'm an admitted club ho so I tend to buy, try and sell a lot of stuff.  Driver is always open to new possibilities.  Hybrids are safe and not going anywhere.  I like my irons and aside from testing through MGS I don't really have plans to change them.  Wedges are safe aside from replacing a worn out head.  I've tried plenty of different putters but settled on the #7 for the past 2 seasons.  This year I'll be starting with the Evnroll ER5 though.

So attempt to replace the most is driver, just haven't found anything that can replace it yet :)

Hard to say at the moment. I have fairly new irons & wedges and FW metal since 08-2014. I have no need or desire to replace any of them at this time. As for the wedges I'd probably look at replacing them first at some point due to wear. They are still performing well. Now... I have a 2014 SLDR I received from MGS for a testing/review back in the spring of 2014. Since that initial review I have grown to love this driver more than any other I've ever played. I got lucky with the shaft I believe and the club in general as it's OTR. No fitting other than a generic shaft selection. I also have the loft  & weighting settings set perfectly too I suppose. It just works. I tried last summer to replace the SLDR - just because; but couldn't find a better club at the time. I might try again this year but I don't know. I enjoy playing from the mow too much.

Wedges are what I change more then any other clubs in the bag.

I like personalizing them, with paint, grinds, stripping, stamping.

I like my Bridgestone JGR driver that I got last spring.  It replaced my SLDR which I hit OK, but I am more consistent and trust the JGR more on those tight holes.  The only reason to replace it would be if I found something that gained me more than a few yards.  Doubt that will happen, but I keep looking.

Irons.  I was fitted for the Ping i20's in 2012 and still play them.  I reshafted a set of MacGregor VIP blades with graphite last year and I love the feel.  They actually play to the same yardages as the i20's, but I can work the ball with them better than the Pings.   I switch to them when I "need a change", especially after several bad rounds in a row.  The shafts are a little heavier.

Wedges.  Switched to the SCORs from my Ping Eye 2 when guys here on the forum were reviewing them several years ago.  My club had a demo set with different shafts, and I tried them from all possible lies.  Still love them.

Putter.  I was never a very good putter when I started to play golf, and it didn't really matter what putter I used.  About 6 years ago I found a Boccieri Heavy Putter that was 32" long in the used club bin at a Golfsmith.  When I rolled a ball with it, I knew that it was for me.  It's not a looker, but the additional weight smooths out my stroke.  It's only the third putter I have ever owned.  I would love to find a nice boutique putter that can match the feel.

FW/Hybrids.  This is the part of my game that really needs improvement.  I need to hit more greens and I either need more distance from the driver or better, more consistent FW and hybrids.  Currently playing TaylorMade RBZ and Sonartec.  I took my 4W out of the bag last fall, and only used a 19* and 25* plus a 24* FW for specific shots.  Constant tryouts for this part of my bag.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I used to change putters a lot.  I changed partially because I love putter and partially because I was always looking for something better.   Now that I understand more about putting,  I still admire putters but leave the putter alone.

I am a long term club player and don't switch things out very often.   Most of what I do is tweaks and my clubs are about 4 years old.   I generally switch out fairway woods and hybrids.

I like the part about the NO steal me fancy head covers or paint schemes on the Scotty. I absolutely refuse to game a putter I have to use a cover on. My Scotty is shocking to the prim and proper group. It is as best as we can tell a 98 Santa Fe rusty as heck with lead tape on the bottom and an old school Royal Cord grip on it. LOL we ended up in a charity scramble a few weeks ago behind a group I termed the "Titleist Brothers" The whole darn group looked like they stepped off the Team Titleist Tour Van. All of them had brand new 16 or maybe 17 new mini staff bags. They were parked beside us in the staging area> All of them had new assorted different Camerons and all of them had the weight kits out with the wrenches. I was choking. I went over to the putting green and was putting and one of those idiots remarked my putter looked like a Cameron Clone. I looked at him and said you better get your glasses checked this is a genuine Cameron circa 1998. He told me I ought to have it restored. Why I asked? I make plenty of putts with it as it is. To each his own I guess-- I am the anti yuppie type anyhow disdain for spit and polish. Did the same thing when riding Harleys and messing with Rat Rods rode and drove rat type cars and bikes. That is why I call the small golf shop "Stu's Rat Rod Golf"

Getting back to the original subject though I made some wholesale changes through out the year really drastic for me. I can not remember in all my years of playing the game of so many changes for me. I really need to update my signature and WITB on the front line stuff> On my strictly vintage stuff I have so much I switch around quite a bit part of my fun on that. I will go ahead and change my sig though because it is pretty much set for this year.

I have only ever owned and played two different iron sets and wedges but I tend to swap out drivers, woods, hybrids and putters--pretty much only used gear that is at least one generation old. My new club this season is a Srixon z355 hybrid I picked up used. I find that you can picked up used gear on eBay and sell it for about the same price you buy it for so ends up being about cost neutral after the initial investment--I have to remind my wife of this point whenever a new box of a certain shape shows up on our door. :) next season I have my eye on either the srixon z355 driver or the Bridgestone JGR driver. Anyone playing either of these right now?

I bought the JGR driver last spring from MmmmmmBuddy at Fiddler's Green in Eugene.  I like it a lot; more consistent than my SLDR and just as long.  However, the yellow grip didn't last 2 minutes after I got it home!!  Go Beavs!

Because I've done quite a bit of growing, the lie on my irons have had to change and unfortunately because they have until my most recent set all been cast, I've used 4 different sets of irons.

I've tinkered with a few drivers but a couple years ago I found a driver, 3w and 3h that work well for me.

Wedges have only used 2 sets of. Will be buying a 3rd sometime this year because the old boys aren't spinning like they used to.

And I've only ever had 2 putters in my life. If it weren't for my brother getting me loaded one night and convincing me to sell him my first putter, I'd be able to say I've only ever had one putter.

Putters are always subject to being replaced although I've recently decided to put my Voo Doo Daddy back in the bag.  It's the oldest club in my possession and I have no intention of ever getting rid of it.   With that said I'm sure there will be another putter that catches my eye and bumps ole VD back in the woodshed for a rest.
