CB-57, AF-302, TC-770

I'm going to be doing a full bag fitting with True Spec Golf in NY soon, either at their Golf & Body location or Trump Ferry Point Golf Course, and am specifically interested in being fit for better players' forged cavity back irons from one of the higher-end, JDM iron manufacturers.  Accordingly, I've limited my search to the brands available through True Spec--Miura, Epon, and Fourteen--and narrowed my preliminary options to the CB-57AF-302, and **TC-770.  While I have fallen in love with the CB-57, I am a little worried that the change in ownership may, despite statements of reassurance from Hoyt McGarity (CEO of True Spec Golf and new Miura Golf President), affect the "Miura" qualify.  On the other hand, no matter how many favorable CB-57 threads I've read, each usually contains a few posts making the Epon comparison and how Endo forging is the "gold standard" for JDM irons.  Sadly, I haven't been able to find too much on Fourteen and the target player profile (Game Improvement, Better Player, etc.) for each of their currently available cavity back irons: TC-544, TF-616, TC,770, TC-606, TC-888, and TF-525.

Like I briefly mentioned, I've searched this and several other forums, but I haven't really seen this clubs compared against each other.  I was hoping that anyone who's considered, tried, or played any or all of these irons could speak to their performance, feel, and any other factors worth considering that speak to the the pros and cons of each club.  Feel like it's somewhat implied, but I'm prioritizing both dispersion and workability over distance.

Finally, regardless of which clubs I go with, I'll make sure to provide a comprehensive review of my True Spec Golf fitting since, inferring from the recent Miura sale threads, they appear to be lesser known and often confused with Tour Spec Golf.  I'll do my best to take notes throughout the process and give some context as to how and why True Spec recommended the clubs, shafts, and adjustments I end up with.

Thank you to everyone in advance and cheers to the 2017 golf season.

Since you have your mind made up as to what clubs you want to buy I like the Miura you linked to. However, and as most fitters would or should suggest... Let the fitting help guide you into the proper clubs and make up for your skill level.

Those Epons  as nice looking too.

I've compared EPON and Miura a fair bit and will try to explain the differences I've experienced.

First, both are exceptional brands and True Spec will do a fantastic job with the fit and build.

If you end up with Miura, there's absolutely no reason to worry about quality -

With that, if you're looking at the 57 vs. the 302, the 57 is going to be more "playerish" all the way around. Thinner topline, less offset and shorter heel to toe. The 302 is going to be more forgiving are marginally less "playerish" in all areas. This isn't to suggest the 302 is big or bulky at all - but these were the primary aesthetic differences I saw.

In the feel department, they both have a lot to offer. Just depends which one resonates more with you - For me, Miura is a dense and solid feel where EPON is perhaps every so slightly firmer -

Will be interested to see what happens, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got slightly better distance numbers with EPON, but felt the CB 57s gave you more control over trajectory - Keep us posted!

Since you are looking at the Miuras you could also check out the CB 501 model. Very similar to the CB 57 but maybe slightly larger heads. I have hit both and they seem pretty similar--just depends on what looks best to your eye. I kind of like the aesthetics of the CB 57s a little better, personally. Both are fantastic feeling clubs. I have not hit Epons but they are also highly regarded-I really wanted to try them but could not find anywhere near me that had them. Feeling is so personal and therefore subjective so I would go with whichever brand/model feels and looks best to your eye. Should be a fun fitting.

Also, if you haven't read the two part article on this site about a Miura fitting for the 501s, check it out-it is probably one of my favorites: https://www.mygolfspy.com/the-best-irons-your-money-can-buy/
