This looks like a fun project. Count me in. Have you found the 1 1/4 diameter slugs big enough?

its between a quarter and a poker chip, not sure i'd go any bigger

I have gotten in the habit of painting first, then torching while it's wet. It sort of bakes the enamel dry and it's done.

 

I've tried painting after, thru a needle. If you overfill and have to clean up with a solvent, it mutes the torched colors. Much more painstaking this way...

Things have gone up a notch... a customer who just bought 11 markers posted this pic of a couple of them with his MannKrafted putter!

These ball markers look soooooooo cool in person and they have the perfect weight to rest securely on the greens.  I HIGHLY recommend the members who are considering these to  hop on board and order one for them selves!

I have found 16 gauge, 1" C110 copper discs are the perfect combination of size and girth. They hold stamping well, don't deform and don't look offensive on the green.

I got my slugs today. I ordered those suggested earlier in the thread - 1 1/4.  They are on the bigger side but a really nice weight.  

 

I was kind of excited to get started so rather than practice I did the same as I do in my golf game and just stepped up to the tee.  I used a 2lb hammer and put the slug on top of an anvil-like bar.  Held the stamp with my bare hand and gave it a giant wack.  I'm happy to say I did NOT break my hand.  I proceeded to finish my name and I'm pretty happy with how my first stamping came out.  

 

Next step is paint fill and torching.  I'll wait to see how that goes before posting a picture.  This may be the last you hear from me.

 

Thanks again alien-guy for starting this cool thread and I can't wait to get my custom marker from you.

I saw the website that someone posted that you can get the steel sound pretty cheap. I would like to try it myself, but I have to finish other projects before us start another.

Just had to share for those that don't follow me on instagram - you never know where things will go!

 

Last night I made 2 ballmarkers, but drilled a hole in them to be used as keychains. For a couple of local stock car drivers (who also play golf now and then).

 

Their plan is to use these as key chain fobs, and then pull 'em off to use as ball markers when they play!
