hckymeyer
With the Walmart vs Name Brand blog article today it got me thinking about getting a set for a beginner on a budget. The guidelines: Total must be sub $200 You must be able to purchase it now You must include shipping costs You must include Driver, FW, hybrid, irons, wedge and putter Shafts can be mix and match, we aren't fitting here You do not have to include a bag, someone you know has an extra laying around so use theirs If looking at ebay you can use completed sold listing prices within the last 30 days To start I went to Global Golf and started picking clubs. Driver - Wilson D100 $50 FW - Adam Tightlies $10 Hybrid - Adams Pro $20 Irons - Adams Super S 5-pw $100 Wedge - Adams Watson Gunmetal 56 $20 Putter - Ping Pal 5KS $20 Add in free shipping code and 11% off used clubs promo and my total is $195.74. I would absolutely pick those clubs over a Wal-Mart box set. So build a set and post it here. Let's find some alternatives to the Wal-Mart box set. JudgeSmails
Ebay Sold prices w/ shipping Irons: Adams A7 iron set 5-PW: $50 (played these for like 6 years, great irons) Wedge: Titleist older model vokey 56* wedge: $19 (beginner prob wouldn't need more wedges) Driver: Callaway Razr Fit Driver: $29 (used this driver for several years, would be solid for a beginner, even has movable weights) FW: Callaway Razr Fit 3w: $34 (found matching 3 wood) Hybrid: Adams Blue Hybrid: $30 Putter: Cleveland Classic 3 Milled: $29 Grand total $191 Not a bad set actually, some are probably not in the greatest of condition, but I'd personally rather have quality used equipment....and a beginner is going to beat on them anyways Driver: TR20 10.5* Hybrids: Epic SuperHybrid 3 18* Epic 4h 23* Irons: JPX900 Hot Metal 5-GW Wedges: CBX2 52* 56* 60* Putter: EV8 Ball: Tour BXS

Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Man that was one heck of a deal on the Eye 2 set even if it does not have a PW. I just sold a set of them for $125 4 thru PW. Probably could have got $150 for them here. I had $21 in them from Goodwill so I sold them when I had that fish biting. The CG-10 sold a little high I find them all the time for less than $10. That was one heck of a buy also on the Adams Super S hybrid too. Yep that bag is a heck of a lot more quality than any Wally World set Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. Undershooter
All prices are shipped. I could have gone cheaper but wanted to have at least semi modern stuff and decent name brands. Driver- Adams Speedline 9.5* $15.01- ebay 3 wood- Nike VR-S 15* $19.99- globalgolf 4 hybrid- Nickent 3DX IW 23* $18- ebay Irons- Adams Idea Pro Forged 5-pw $79.99- ebay/pga network Wedges- Taylormade ATV sand 54* and lob wedge 60* $46.97- globalgolf putter- Taylormade nubbins B1 $18.12- ebay Total- $198.08 All of this stuff is in pretty good shape and a golfer(MGSer) wouldn't think twice about it if they saw it in someones bag. I could have done a bag for like $60 if I wanted to but I tried to get the best stuff I could for the money. Btw a lefty bag could be REALLY cheap! I bet you could get a quality one of those for under $100. Edit: I know we aren't fitting but I'm pretty sure I got all stiff flex stuff minus the wedges which are wedge flex. Lonnie96
Honestly I know scratch and city golf champions who still play older sets like these.Really proves to me that many try and buy a golf game with new equipment. If you have a fundamentally sound golf game than any club will work.Sadly this is looked down on by online forum golf

I maintained a 5 hdcp with them. Now they were worn out and I have another set to build plus a lot of old Mac clubs. I did a trade deal for a set of 2013 Callaway forged x irons. I do hit them good. But in some eyes since they are now 4 years old they are considered ancient. Oh yeah I have caught hell on WRX over the years but none of the big mouths would come down here and play me for serious money. Here on MGS I have never caught any flack because of the old equipment. In fact I can remember when I was the only one on MGS playing older equipment.
