Do those doors shut in the winter time?

Doors are mostly for Miss Daisy (wifey) who's either too cold, too warm or raining or windy.

Just shut the door and keep moving.

Yea, somewhere around 50,000/55,000 estimated carts in the Villages.

We have one cart and it's actually our second car avg 4,000/5,000 miles per year. A good number of couples have 2 carts (his and hers).

Good place to retire to, except when you have back to back Hurricanes coming at you

For the Villages mines pretty generic. Strictly golf and errands.

Some of these folks go cart crazy with all kinds of custom bodies and some incredible custom paint. I guess we figure we got this old might as well enjoy it.

Wow. I'd like to curl up under some of that fairway grass in front of a fire. It just looks so soft and comfy.

It's Bermuda. When it s fully alive in August it is so lush, like walking on carpet. It's starting to loose some of its fullness with the cooler nighttime temps. But six still a very nice grass to play on.

I'm afraid we may have let ddryan down in that regard. He was nice enough to offer us some of his private swing oil, mid round. But I was in uniform (meaning a polo with our course name) and it was still technically work hours. And Wahoo was afraid if he took the bottle, ddryan might not get it back

We didn't have much time for a full fledged 19th hole, but most certainly will the next time.

The last few days the maintenance crews have been working on the greenside bunker on our par 4 #3 hole.  This is our #1 handicap hole.  Here's a pic of the hole looking back towards the tee as it looked before they started; water all the way along the right side of the fairway and in front of the green, a pot bunker between the water and the green, and a large bunker on the right side of the green.

IMG_0352.jpg

I have spent more than my share of time in that bunker.  I was wondering what they were doing to it... until today.  They laid sod in it.

IMG_0779.jpg

Although it will make the hole easier for me, I think it totally changes the difficulty of the hole.  I guess the club is cutting back on costs; sand bunkers are expensive to maintain.  We don't have a lot of bunkers, but the ones we have are pretty big and take a lot of sand. Now I wonder if any others will be removed.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

That's a beautiful looking course Kenny. You are rights about the expense to maintain them. But that bunker looks like it is a pretty integral part of the hole. Often times its fairway bunkers that don't add much to a hole that are removed.

Man that makes me sad Kenny. Green side bunkers are so important to the aesthetics and play of a course. For one of my par 3s, they filled in 2-3 small bunkers but left the big, signature bunker (thank God). I understand the cost factor but it still hurts me regardless.

Tbh, I'd rather be in a bunker than rough for those shots anyway.

A bit of commentary on those great images- not the subjects, but rather the photos themselves!

1.  First, that selfie is scary close- a result of being vertically challenged with accompanying short arms!.. There should probably be some sort of warning before that photo opens up on your computer!!!

2.  This photo could have been on any of the fairways- Wahoo is ALWAYS right down the center of the fairway.

3.  A great image of a beautiful golf hole at a particularly nice time of the evening- it is corollary for the entire round - great course, great spies, and great fun!

4.  First, the elbows are supposed to be straight -oops.  Second, yes, I left the birdie putt short (probably  the 4th or 5th putt I left short- not all birdies, BTW).

What's in the bag?

While we are good friends, we will need to agree to disagree on this one.   Having witnessed me in a sand bunker on Monday, surely you can understand my position.   I think sand bunkers should be considered ground under repair.   When the sheep herders invented the game, they did so on green fields, not in the sand of a desert.   Accordingly, I don't think sand has any place on a golf course.

While I like the way the hole set up (aesthetics) with the greenside bunker I would prefer to play from rough. I hate bunkers.

For me it really depends on the rough.  I never played much from the sand until I joined this course two years ago.  My old course didn't have any bunkers.  Since I have been here, I have had to learn how to hit out of them.  I'm getting better.

Some places I play have terrible rough and I think I would rather be in a bunker.  However, this greenside bunker has been a beast for me.  If I am close to the green, it's not a bad shot but the lip is was about 3 feet.  Like I said, it is a rather large bunker, not wide, but long.  If my approach shot is too far to the right of the green, then it's a 25 yard bunker shot.  I would usually end up still in the bunker just short of the green.  Oh BTW, the green slopes away to a lower tier.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Friday night a little shower went through while we were playing.  Not much of a rainbow; it was in the middle of a dark cloud.
