On Core Golfballs

Two weeks ago I responded to a FB bulletin regarding a new golfball.

 

Today I received a package in the mail...

 

 

Inside the box was a sleeve of the new On Core ELIXR balls.

 

 

 

They are their Premium Tour ball, a 4 piece ball with urethane cover with 85 compression.

 

 

 

Has anyone else even heard of these balls?

 

I went to their website www.oncoregolf.com

 

They sell for $40/dozen and also have a two piece distance ball for $20 called "Avant" that is 65 compression and an accuracy ball for $30 that is called "Caliber" that is 80 compression.

 

I guess I will try them out soon and report about it.

The website is setup very similar to Snell. They offer a combo balls and tee shirt pkg. I note that they offer tee shirts, but no polos......don't they know that you must have a collared shirt to play golf?....LOL

 

They also only have flat brim hats.....ugh.

I've played the metal core ball, forgot the name (ma 1.0 I think) but it was solid. The only issue I had was holding greens on mid to long iron shots. I think it's perfect for high spin players who have big misses right or left. Controlled spin off the driver but hard around the greens

I actually have heard of them but it's been a while. Seems they were selling ball with a titanium core?

I picked up a sleeve of the metal core balls at the PGA show a couple of years ago and I really liked them on the green when putting.  That said, they didn't perform as well off the tee, as they were straight but shorter distance than any other ball I've used.

 

Granted, I'm not a long hitter to start with, but they weren't that much better on the green to justify losing distance on every other stroke.

I hate to try them as that means I can't play the MTB, Duo U or Rzn Platinum.

I gamed the ELIXR golf ball today at Pebble Creek. My first drive was the longest of our foursome, so I got some yardage off the tee. On the 3rd hole I sliced it into the hazard and lost the ball, but was able to scramble for a bogey. I had Closest to the pin(3'11") on the 132 yard par 3 #6. This got me $22.

 

I had several 220-240 yard drives today, about 20 yards farther than normal. Shooting a 40/44, I took 3rd place for $52.

 

I liked how it felt off the irons, but it felt a little soft off the driver. Tomorrow is the annual Mulligans Cup 2 man Scramble. I plan on gaming this ball again.

 

I went to the website and noted that they are $40/dozen. A price I don't plan to pay for a good ball. I can get Snell MTB's for a lot less, and have plenty of them in my closet. If you are looking for a urethane covered ball that has some distance, this is it, for $40.

I like the snell ... But then GM golf ball seems to be the best deal around and I tried many balls. You Will get more distance off the tee and irons from the GM by about 7 yards with driver. VERY nice bite on the greens, simaler to, but nut quite the same as Bridgestone top line..... larger core gives greater distance but a little harder feel but just a little. Good quality urethane cover ...

The vast majority of greens amatures play do not require the softest premium ball by a LONG SHOT.. ( yes. The green quality has much to do with ball behaviour). Take into consideration what the greens surface is offering you, then take into consideration what you can do with the ball as an amateur, and it might Dawn on you that you're paying too much for golf balls..... Try the MG Tour and don't look back.

I would like to thank Foscycle for bringing this topic up, but i would like to pick MG Tour ball users brains on there experience with the MG tour......19.99 dozen.... fantastic ball for the mediocre greens us amateurs are playing plus enjoy the distance....

Would love to hear your experiences

While I haven't tried the Snell balls yet, mostly due to the fact I was fully stocked up on balls last season, I've been happy with the MG ball and it's a great value.

Still have one On Core ELIXR left.......they were fun to play with, albeit on the high $$ side for me at $40/dozen.

I played the MA 1.0 for an entire season.  Overall it was a good performing ball but when I swapped to the Callaway Chrome Soft, I gained considerable distance and stopping on the greens.  I'm interested in the Elixir because it seems to be more of a tour performance ball.  

 

One thing about the MA 1.0 was that it made a crazy sound coming off the driver.

Is there that much profit out there with all these new ball companies? Seems a tough market to get into with all the R&D costs such.
