From today's Inbox. I've always like Sun Mountain bags -- great colors and styles, and loving the lightness!!

New LS Golf Bags

Offer Something for Everyone

Missoula, Montana – The Sun Mountain LS (lightweight series) golf stand bags offer a full range of features and weights to please the individual golfer's preferences. Bags include the minimalist's two-and-a-half pound 2Five bag, the 3.5 LS, 4.5 LS and the cart bag with legs, five-and-a half pound 5.5 LS. With each progressively larger number comes additional pockets and features and a corresponding additional pound of weight. This Lightweight Series of golf stand bags is available now in stores and on-line with retail prices of 2Five ($219), 3.5LS ($229), 4.5LS ($209), and 5.5LS ($239). For the nearest Sun Mountain retailer call 800-227-9224 or visit www.sunmountain.com.

The Sun Mountain 2Five golf bag is the lightest, full-featured bag on the market weighing in at the scant 2.5 pounds. Sun Mountain reduced weight by using carbon-fiber legs, high strength-to-weight plastics, and ultra-lightweight and durable fabrics like those used in mountaineering tents. 2Five is offered in 10 different colors with a retail price of $219.99.

The 3.5 LS weighs 3.5 pounds and is designed for the golfer who likes an ultra-lightweight bag but wants a few more features. Like the 2Five, the 3.5 LS is constructed with lightweight nylon fabric, high-strength-to-weight plastic and carbon fiber legs. Adding a pound results in a thicker shoulder strap, a more cushioned hip pad, and three more pockets. 3.5 LS is available in seven colors at $229.99.

The 4.5 LS is a lightweight, mid-sized stand bag. Weighing just 4.5 pounds and incorporating the E-Z Fit Dual Strap System, the 4.5 LS is built for carrying and has numerous cart-friendly features. Cart-friendly features include a cart strap pass-through that runs behind the clothing pocket so the bag can be secured to a cart without blocking pocket access, a leg lock system to keep the legs firmly in place while the bag is carted, and a cart-friendly bottom. There is also a 4.5 LS 14-way offering an individual club divided top and a 4.5 LS Zero-G offering a hip-belt to take the weight off the shoulders. Retail prices are $209, $219 and $229, respectively.

Lastly is the 5.5 LS golf bag. The 5.5 LS is the biggest bag in Sun Mountain's new lightweight series. The bag features a bigger, 11” diameter top with four, full-length club dividers to make getting clubs in and out a breeze. 5.5 LS also features nine pockets including: three water-resistant valuables pockets, a clear-view phone pocket and a velour-lined GPS pocket with a protective, thermo-formed front panel. 5.5 LS weighs 5.5 pounds and is available in eight colors with a retail price of $239.99.

I liked my 2Five a lot. I've seen some longevity issues with the bottle pocket with my regular group, though. My only gripe on the 2Five is that a water bottle in the bottle pocket on a warm day will sweat into the bag.

Great review! Curious if you use the rangefinder pocket on the bag or keep your rangefinder case clipped on the strap/handle?

  • 2 months later...

So I recently got a Two Five and had a chance to take it out today for the first time. I have a Four Five and a Titleist Sta Dry, but basically need something as light as possible to try and walk my course. My course is on a severely hilly piece of property and even walking with a pull cart makes me feel like I've been in a car accident after the round.

I needed the lightest bag possible, so considered Sunday bags but wanted dual straps to help with fatigue. Sun Mountain actually has a sprinter bag that looked like a very good option; until I realized the 2-5 is the same weight.

As far as the bag goes, the opening is a little narrower than you get with the 4-5 but still completely functional. You lose the front pocket, which has a pouch for a water bottle, but there are three pockets, one of them the length of the bag, with more than enough room.

IMG_8981.JPG

Carrying the bag today, I was very impressed with how easy it was to walk quickly around the course. My bags before this forced me into a cadenced walk that prohibited my stride and made me hold the straps in my hands to make sure I was able to walk faster. But the bag say high up on my back and stride was uninhibited. With the lighter weight, it was easy to walk, even up the steep inclines of the course.

That strap system does its job but gave me pause when the regulator maintaining weight distribution would sway in the opposite direction every now and then, making me think my clubs were going to spill out. But it would self-adjust, making it easy to keep walking without worrying about what's going on behind you.

The handle and rear frame would hit my back on occasion, which wasn't ideal but would remind me to hike up the bag so as to prevent it from getting too low and more difficult to walk.

I finished my round feeling pretty good. The bag is stable and looks to be fairly enduring. Although it's light, I can use it as my primary bag and I feel it would stand any excessive use.

For those that want to walk a lot, the two-five is a great choice because of its functionality and lighter weight.

Really like the looks of the 3.5, this hopefully will be my next bag when the prices drop or on sale.

The 5.5 is nice but I won't kid myself thinking I'll walk. Haha. I have my eye on their new XCR bags.

SM bags are fantastic in my experience. I currently have a C-130 that's a couple years old but is still in great shape. Probably walk 70 of the time and have a waterproof carry bag I bought with my first set of clubs 5ish years ago (paid 150 for 13 clubs plus the bag!!). Not sure if I should wait until it falls apart or just get a regular walking bag for dry days.

Will definitely be looking at these if I decide to get another bag!

I like the looks of these new bags, and I probably would have gotten the 4.5 to replace my SM cart bag if I hadn't found a Wilson Staff Nexus bag for $49.  I'm loving the Nexus, and it fits my SM MicroCart very nicely.

Great stuff PGG. Love how it is a full pound lighter than the 3.5ls but it really doesn't seem to sacrifice any of the utility.

I have the Four5 bag.  The only problem I have is that when I go to pick it up, the legs sometimes don't fold up all the way.  Not sure if my towel is getting squeezed in-between the legs and the bag, but it's getting annoying to the point I may give Sun Mountain a call within the next few weeks.  Anynody have this issue ?

This happened to my Four 5 and eventually I wasn't able to use the bag because the legs wouldn't extend properly.  I called Sun Mountain and they sent me new legs that were a cinch to replace.  Now it's good as new.
