Having just found this thread, thank you all for wasting my afternoon as I catch up.

Here's that Venn diagram GS Dave was referring to...attachicon.gif IMG_20170804_090454.jpg

Thanks for this - graphs are purdy and as someone who's not a big IPA fan it'll help me in picking some out for the in-laws.

Sampled a few new-to-me IPAs, and others, recently, including....

* Two Roads Igor's Dream Imperial Stout

.. Wow! This is a sensational / scents-ational ;-) dark and aromatic, tasty brew .. heck, this one qualifies as dessert!

* Rock Harbor Copper ESB

.. It's hard to find a true ESB and this one is love at first sight .. dark, rich color and delivers a really pleasing taste .. yum!

* Maine Lunch

.. Yep, that's what they call it. Think heavier Belgian-style but not as malty .. much nicer (imho) balance and still dark and hazy with a thick head. Also yummo!

..PXG 0211 6i-GW (Mitsubishi MMT)
..Cleveland CBX-2 54 and CBX 60 (both Rotex graphite)
...Edel EAS 4.0 (stock shaft, zero offset hosel, round grip)
..all in a Datrek bag on an MGI Zip Navigator electric cart.

Oh, forgot about...

* Merrimack Cheatah

(That's how they spell it.)

.. I'm a big fan of craft IPAs - the variety of styles, colors, flavors, aromas, finishes, etc. Love sampling different ones. When I find a new one, I offer the glass to my wife to give it a sniff .. if she makes the "yucky" face then I know I've found a good one .. this one passed the test!!

(At possibly a record distance away from her nose)

Sounds like I could like Igor's.  Probably not going to find any of these out here.

Beer Score of the Century!

So my wife had gotten me a very generous gift certificate to a local beer distributor, who carried a nice selection of different styles of craft brews .. and especially in IPAs. Had used about half of the gift on the first trip and stopped back in today to spend the rest .. only to find they'd sold the business...

But...

... Fortuitously the new owners were there, and one of them put me in touch with the former beer retailer...

... Who told me to take whatever I wanted!!!!

Ha! Already cleaned out, along with all the cold cases. Did end up with a nice selection, though - like 7 or so cases worth of about 17 different kinds of brews!

A few specialty ones, too, like a limited edition Lagunitas, Three Philosophers and a Chimay Grande Reserve!

I didn't want to quote and end up reposting all the pictures and such, but:

Weihenstephaner Weissbier Dunkel  (dunkelweissen) is absolutely hands down my favorite beer.

If you ever get the chance to visit Bavaria, do yourself a favor, go right on past the Hefeweissen and request the dunkel-weissen.  Don't let the "dark" of this beer scare you off!!!

It is basically Hefe with all of its good elements enhanced!!

I would agree with its golfability though.  The large 500ml bottle is not friendly to the cart drink holders, plus this stuff can foam up with a few bumps.

It is not something you will likely find on tap, as it is most often bottle fermented.

There are a few fun places near me that have expanded their craft beer menu; with an effort to include local and regional microbrews.

Last night, after a pretty good but not burn down the barn IPA from Stone (almost all the other IPAs this place has are Easy Coast hazy and juicy), I tried...

COFFEE COCONUT ICING ON THE CAKE

”This rich and decadent imperial milk stout is layered with silky flavors; Kenyan Kieni AA arabica beans, prized by our friends at Sey Coffee for their brightness and berry-like complexity, mingle with toasted coconut flakes and vanilla for a deeply satisfying stout that shows each element in a harmonious balance.”

Yep. That's the name and that's their description! The brewer is Grimm in Brooklyn, NY.

I have to agree with "deeply satisfying"! This beer is dark, tasty, aromatic but not bitter nor sweet, tasty, hoppy but smooth, tasty, ...

(oh.. Did I already say "tasty"? My wife took a very cautious mini sip and then exclaimed loudly, "Yum! This is a dessert beer!")

You definitely taste a hint of each of those flavors (that I would normally otherwise scoff at as "that s*** doesn't belong in beer!").

ABV 11.5 (be careful!)

IBUs are up there, I forget the number, but the Imperial process makes this really smooth and really drinkable.

Actually, I thought that your place was a treasure trove of microbrews after seeing that pic of your car loaded with cases of beer.

OK, I'm reviving this thread.  The weather is warming up and we haven't had a beer review in almost 2 months.  Anyone got anything memorable??

And the Beer Choir is singing...
