With traditional medicine a cold will be over in 14 days.  If you don't do anything, it lasts 2 weeks.  Get well quick!   I need a thirst-quenching beer for a really hot day (top of the list for golfability); right now it's Miller Lite, so it shouldn't take too much effort to come up with something.

For New Brew Sunday ...

..at a friends and family celebration of step-son's graduation from Marine boot camp, at his father's pub in NYC - started with the classic Anchor Steam - a very longtime fave!, so not new to me - and then tried an..

 

Other Half IPA

 

A nice IPA but a bit on the floral/citrusy aromatic side for my liking. Otherwise decent enough.

 

And don't ask me what was in the rasta-looking tap .. the bartender had a pretty heavy Irish brogue and I could NOT catch the name! The Victory (on the left) is a great brewery but that tap was just a Pilsener.

After breaking in the new patio this weekend with an epic grill session, I will officially be withdrawing from new brew Thursday for a least one week while I recover... Best of luck gentlemen!

Rasta .. Rainbow .. Yes, the multi-colored one towards the right. Bells, eh? Oh well, not sure what style of theirs it was - next time I see it anywhere I'll ask for the beer menu!

Continuing my adventure into Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River, OR, I am trying their India Red Ale tonight.  Quite good actually.  ABV is only 6.5% so it's right in my range of likability.  A little hoppy but it doesn't come across as overly so; I am not a fan of really hoppy IPAs.  I'm headed down the Columbia Gorge in a couple of weeks, so I think I'll stop and check out their taproom.

My sort of new brew tonight was..

Fat Tire Amber Ale

..pretty sure I've not had it before.

 

Anyway, it seems to sit sort of in-between a pale ale and an IPA .. so sort of an interesting combo of those two. Amber color, of course, with a bit of hoppiness and bitterness and definitely a very pleasant thirst-quenchiness ;-)

The other two were at Mikkeller DTLA. I was there before a concert.

 

The first is their version of a New England IPA, hence the hazy yet wicked tasty beverage.

 

Second was a crisp pale ale, session style. Didn't want to blow the taste buds early in the drinking journey.

New Brew Cans Tuesday.

Ahhh... lots of good choices... am LOVING the craft beer movement!!

 

Starting on the left:

 

* Firestone Walker, Paso Robles CA

"Beer Before Glory"

Luponic Distortion

No. 003 in a "Revolving Hop Series"

5.9% ABV

 

Hoppy, crisp, flavourful .. great, great brew. Everything I've had from Firestone Walker has been really really good.

 

 

* KelSo, Brooklyn NY

"Beer Helps" .. see: @kelsobeer

Imperial India Pale Ale

"A double IPA with bold malts and huge hops"

10% ABV

 

The name KelSo is an amalgamation of the names of the husband and wife owners / brewers. Don't know if they have kids or pets but they put a whole lotta luv into this .. and all their .. brews.

 

 

* Cigar City Brewing, Tampa FL

Jai Alai India Pale Ale

7.5% ABV

 

First had this on draft when out to dinner with friends and was actually pretty surprised at how good it was! Rich, dark color, plenty hoppy and a bit aromatic, not overpowering; with a taste that I'd say is an excellent example of what an IPA should be (in this amateur tester's humble opinion!).

 

 

* Oyster Bay Brewing Co., Oyster Bay NY

IPA

"..drinkable, savory .. that will make your mouth water"

6.1% ABV

 

Any Billy Joel fans may recognize the name of the town of "Oyster Bay". He also lived for awhile overlooking the water in Lloyd Neck, about 2 1/2 miles from where we live now.

 

Anyway, craft brewers and local brew pubs seem to starting up every other week somewhere on Long Island .. the problem is: how am I ever gonna be able to get to all of them to support them and to test their creations...??
