HELP - - CUTTING DRIVER SHAFT TO STANDARD

Recommended Posts

Need some help, picked up an Uncut HZRDUS red, and want to build it to standard for the GBB Epic.  The shaft is uncut at 46''.  In order to make it playable to 45.5, I measured that the shaft with optifit adapter installed should be cut at the butt end to 44 1/8'', which when the grip is installed will play to 45.5

Please let me know if this sounds right, or I am completely off

The standard tip trim for the Hzardus Red is zero, so effectively you are correct in trimming to length from the butt only.

The Hzardus Red does possess a more active tip section for higher launch, so you would want to keep as much of this in the build as possible to give the highest launch. If however you wanted lower launch, depending on your swing - a tip trim may be in order. Without a fitting, I can't really recommend either option.

Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. Do you think the 44 1/8 is the correct measurement to get to 45.5 playing length when fully assembled?

Best recommendation since you are only butt trimming for length is to install the tip, let dry, install into head, measure and cut to desired playing length.  Be sure to allow for the thickness of the butt end of the grip.. (typically about 1/8th of an inch)..

Would totally agree with Plano. I haven't played with the Epic yet, so forgive me if this additional thought is a waste of time BUT the only exception would be if you were concerned about taking it to a certain swing weight; then I would dry fit, measure and cut, determine what tip weight adjustment you would need. Epoxy the tip weight, then the actual club head. Keep in mind the graphite tip weight will add an 1/8 of an inch to the length in most cases.

My swing speed is on the cusp, stiff flex driver, working down to a regular flex in the irons.
