Favorite Shot Shape?

Draw or Fade? High or Low?

 

As a kid I always had a very reliable fade and I hated the ball flight, so over the years I have worked in a straight to draw shot shape... Now I'm wishing I wouldn't have messed with that swing. I can still hit my fade, but not like 15 years ago.

 

So anyways what is your favorite shot shape and why?

Over he past two years I've transitioned to a mid-height draw. After working with a coach/pro the past 2 years this is where I find myself. And I like it. Now I need to relearn how to fade the ball when necessary. I'm working on it.

The draw - I've always been able to visualize that shot shape and prefered it in my mind's eye. Medium high through the bag when I'm striking it well.

I prefer the high fade shot shape in 6-LW, and Driver. Draw everything else.

 

Like to hit low bullet cuts just for fun. You know the ones that make your partner say "FORE... oh never mind"

With driver, I prefer a VERY high and straight flight.. Maybe a little fade.

 

With irons, I prefer a subtle fade...

 

With a Putter, I prefer a shot pattern that is 6" straight down.....

Prefer a fade with all clubs however it seems the straight to draw shot is pretty standard for me.

I'm saying the one you set up for execute properly and say "damn that's nice" after you strike the ball.

 

Right to left or left to right gives you that "time to buzz the tower" feeling.

I like to play a strait to slight fade. I feel I have more control of the ball left to right. My natural shot is a draw but I find my distance control and tempo gets a little loose when playing the draw.

 

Off the driver I shape both ways more often than with other clubs.

Driver and fairways my go to shot is a fade with a mid trajectory.   For hybrids and Irons,  high with a slight draw.

I've been a hooker all my life. At times I hook more than others however once you get it in ya blood, it's a done deal.  My friends all try to change me from my hooking ways however it's all but too late.  Now don't get me wrong as I can hit a fade when the situation calls for it however it just doesn't feel as natural.....   Once a hooker, you're hooked for life.

Driver: straight with maybe a slight cut and medium to high ballflight.

 

Everything else: Very high and either straight or a small cut.

 

Sadly I'm fighting a bad 2 way miss right now with everything

I hit everything high naturally and I'm good with that.  Driver I prefer a high draw or straight.  Hybrids straight or a small cut.  Irons and wedges straight.

 

Now, what I want and what happens aren't always the same thing, but that's just golf.

I used to be a slicer ( or as Hank Haney likes to call it "a power fade"), but that is NOT my favorite shot.  I like straight; I try to hit them all straight; they don't always go straight.  I can hit draws or fades if I need to, but fades are easier due to my old "power fade".  I don't really hit anything very high since I lost most of my swing speed the last few years.  That works out OK when the fairways are firm like they are here in the desert, but it's not great when playing in soft conditions.

Typically hit straight to a slight fade.  I can hit a hook (often not on purpose) but struggle with a draw.  My swing plane is a little too upright, but it works currently.

My ball flight is draw, but there are times that early in the round I am a bit slow on getting through the ball so I end up with a fade, I just make the adjustment until the ball comes back to the right. Then I just play my normal left to right draw.

Favorite shot shape has me torn between two. 1) The high towering fade with a mid to long iron that stops quickly at the green. 2) The trap low draw with a 2 or 3 iron that is great on short Par-4s.

Both of those are really fun to hit, and I get to use both virtually every round.

I play a draw almost exclusively, but I'd much rather hit a fade! A power fade is the preferred shot for a few of the best ball-strikers in history; Hogan, Nicklaus, Woods, etc. It's just a prettier ball flight to me even though I can't hit one. If I do, it's an accident because my hands ain't workin'.

 

*sigh* We always want something more...As Lee Trevino said, "You can talk to a fade, but a hook won't listen."

I was looking back over the past 3 years at opening day at my home course, looks like the average was April 19th... so I guess I have to wait to test out my favorite shots this year...... Depressing.

I like to hit the draw because I naturally fade the ball. Its fun to execute and just looks puurty. However in a pressure situation, I can set up for a fade and throw darts.
