Why did you join MGS?

I was on Wrx and found it wasn't a great community to talk golf. I found often my posts would get ignored and few of their contests were open to Canada. I'm on a few forums for hockey and it's always a bit more friendly than Wrx was so O was getting emails from MGS already so figured why not and when the Ping contest came up figured it was time.

Welcome? Glad you found us. Looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Nobody gets ignored around here.

I am so proud of MGS! The Staff is cool, the members are cooler (just kidding) sort of and we are growing quicker than a dandelion.  All you newbies came here for a reason and all you old timers are staying here for the same reason.  This place feels good.  This place is home.  You can bet ya arse once you join, you won't be looking for something better.  It''s here folks.  You found the Mother Lode....  Stay with us and enjoy because it does not get any better!

I was following the page on Instagram for a while. I was apprehensive about forum boards. My brain was accustomed to the pushy, sales type boards where “YOU NEED THIS OZIK SHAFT” or your game would suffer. I really enjoy the community feel of this group and some great photos.

 • 1 year later...
I had just about given up on places like this after dabbling in 3 others.
One was run by a person who seemed all about pushing a book and was always looking to argue with anyone who didn't echo his opinions. Always had to have the last word with everyone. After a while the only reason I posted was to ruffle his (and his minions) feathers, and I'm usually not that guy.
Another place turned me off with their fan boy approach to a certain OEM. Most of the regulars seemed to be part of a click who all worshiped at the altar of a staff member who loved to talk about his prodigious distance and how far he hit every club he tested. I enjoyed the place for a while, but when I started questioning the reviews of their "house brand OEM" and the pricing of new clubs, I touched a nerve, and soon realized I wasn't a fit there.
The site I liked the least is probably the biggest and best known. Plenty of information, but after a while I tired of some of the egos. I rarely posted, because the people who did so the most didn't seem very friendly. It was like they judged others by how low their hcap was or how far they hit a ball. They were either arguing or bragging about their 125 mph swing speeds and 280 yard 3 woods hit inside ten feet of a tucked pin.
I love it here, and found it while looking for a review. When I read the thread about that particular club, I was struck by the respectful and friendly way everyone interacted. Remember the Cleveland Launcher HB thread ole gray & MattF?
It's the way I like to be with people, so I was intrigued. I lurked for a month or so, then dove in. I haven't regretted it, and haven't logged into another golf site since. I think you fellas will be stuck with me for a long time. [emoji1]
Everyone seems to get along, the vibe is relaxed, and the better players don't look down on the mid and higher caps. The staff seems very nice, there is a great mix of posters, and like someone mentioned, the old guard was very welcoming. When I'm here I feel like I've been placed as a single into a great foursome. Easy conversations about golf and whatever else is on your mind with very nice people.
Thanks for having me!!!

Thanks brother and we’re glad you’re here [emoji1303]🏌️♂️[emoji466]️

For me, I became aware of MGS after looking for some DTC vs big boy golf balls. Then looked around a little more and found a solid community with a focus on spreading honest info on golf & equipment.

I also don't know anyone personally who's much into golf, so I really like having a community to geek out on golf with me. And there's an extreme wealth of knowledge that I'm grateful to be able to glean from. Appreciate y'all!

I joined MSG a few years ago but was never really active until I listened to one of their podcasts and they talked about being your own brand, playing what's best for your game.

I really like the idea of belonging to a place where you can learn more about the game, discover new practice methods, and get feedback from real golfers through unbiased feedback.

I bounced around forums for years, I've always been a firm believer that there's always something of value in different places. I joined here when I noticed that a lot of other posters who always brought value to one forum in particular had disappeared over time had started posting at MGS.

Being on a forum where all OEMs are valued equally is refreshing, and knowing that each forum member's opinions are just as valid as someone else's is even more of a bonus. You don't get that at most forums. The mods here are also among the absolute best online at keeping everything fun and on-topic. That goes a LONG WAY towards making the forum feel like a welcoming place to talk golf. I like the no-nonsense approach, especially on the reviews. If a club (or set or balls or whatever) doesn't cut it, members and mods aren't afraid to say it. On my first initial forum dive, I saw that a lot of reviewers looked a lot like me - higher handicaps, swing flaws, playing the game for fun, etc. That was also a huge draw for me to join and read more while getting involved.

I joined because I'm hoping to find new opinions on things and hoping to find a forum with a little more positivity and not have to deal with the same "takes" on golfers or golf companies.

I'm stuck at home and want to have conversations about golf. I am also a golf nerd and like to get information and opinions about equipment, and various other things about golf.

An older thread, but one that certainly hasn't lost any meaning and with so many new members this is a great one to keep up with. A lot of good stories here and common threads can be found as to why or how members joined. For all those who haven't posted in this yet why did you join? Did you happen on the forum by chance or were you lead here by some other factor be that testing or instagram or whatever else?
