Maryland/DC/VA...and of course DE/PA/WV Outing April 30th!

I know there aren't a ton of DMV golfers on the site..YET!! But I'm putting this out there, as I and some  old friends from an old internet hangout of mine are having a season kcikoff outing on April 30th.   I"m hosting it at my course at a pretty good rate in an effort to get as many out as possible.   Here are the details if anyone is interested....feel free to ask any questions.

 

 

Alright everyone, it's been a long, not so snowy and cold winter, but with Masters Week just 1 week away it's time for our first local get together. I'm offering to host it at my course at a very special rate, and have also reached out to a friend who is the local rep for GolfBoard. He'll be on site before hand giving a demo to our GM and myself, and as time permits, allowing anyone in the outing to take it for a short spin. Waivers will be required to be signed but they are really easy to ride. If this big lug can do it during a crowded PGA Show without any casualties, just about anyone can. 

Also as he is a member of a couple other golf forums and leagues, he will be inviting people from those forums and leagues as well. It's meant as a very fun social day, since it's the first outing for many of us, but once we get an idea of attendees, we're not opposed to setting up a friendly competition if everyone wants, or we'll just keep it fun and casual....Either way wins!!

Place: Compass Pointe Golf Course (Pasadena, MD) North/East Course https://www.compasspointegolf.com/

Date: Sunday April 30th, 2017

Time: Tee Times starting at 11:00

Price: $49 per player, range balls included. (Normal Weekend rate $68 plus $7 small bucket) 

Cutoff date: Trying to stick with April 21st as much as possible, but will certainly do everything I can to accommodate last minute additions. It's all about getting as many of us together as possible and having fun!!

Since this is a "Multi Board" outing, in order for me to help keep things straight, I hope the mods don't mind me posting some names that they may not recognize as members here.  But it'll give everyone an idea of the number of people playing, and who knows they may see a friend or two from another neighborhood and entice them to join in.

• DCGolfTour/WRX Group has 17 confirmed.  So that gives us a nice size group of 26
• Tee Times start at 11:00 and go in 10 minute intervals 
• I'll be getting a list of pairings from their side by tomorrow.   
• I'll make sure you're paired with at least one guy you know, but you might end up paired with a twosome from the other group as well, use it as an opportunity to recruit them....HA...
• GolfBoard Demo should be ready shortly after 10:00.   I don't know how many he will have, if you do take a demo, try to remember others will be waiting as well, and not tour all 18 holes 
• Tees-Play what ever you're comfortable with.  Most of the WRX guys will probably do the Blue as they are the ultimate Internet Golfers...ha  for those that don't know our North/East course the distances are

• There is not formal completion at this point.  I'll probably set up some CTP and LD opportunity. 
• Beverage Cart will be out there, please TIP Generously 

That's about all I can think of now.  More info to come as i get it, and of course fire away with questions.   The weather has gone from a forecast of 90 and sunny, to 70 and partly cloudy in a mater of two days.  But no rain in site!!

Ha thanks! In hindsight I should've just used the same one. It's what I've used since high school....but when I made my MGS account I thought it'd be fun to do something different. Oh well haha.

Lived/worked there and a UNC Alumni member. Wasn't smart enough to graduate but they still don't mind taking my money each year, and letting me be a member. Ha.

 

Plus played a ton of golf at a lot of great courses.

Ok for those of you in the outing on Sunday here's the tee times and some info on formats.

 

FORMAT INFO:

GolfBoard Demo will begin shortly after 10:00 AM, please keep your demo's brief so everyone has time, and don't be late for your tee time!!

Format for Sunday: A fun day of golf meeting new golfers. Nothing serious - unless you want to get into the optional prize pools.


Optional Format: Individual Stroke Play. Play it down (unless otherwise instructed). Max score is 10.

Optional Prize Pools ($5 each - can pick n choose):
- individual low gross
- individual low net (with verified handicap)
- individual skins (gross - par or better to win)

Payouts depend on the number of players who enter. Winner take all. See CAA or EAGLE ahead of time to put in your $.

yeah, not bad. But it is mixture of 3 websites, and a local golf league, some are multiple members.  I've played with a large number of the guys at one time or antoher and they are all good dudes, should be a good time.  

 

Note, I didn't want to put the WRX or DCGolfTour real or fourm names out there, as some of the prefer to remain anonymous on the Inter webs

 

The jekyl island thing sounds like it'd be fun. I already have a full slate this summer and fall, don't know if I can squeeze any more in, but I'm sure I'll be thinking about it

Thanks to everyone that came out for the outing today. We had a total of 26 guys. Saw some old friends and met some new ones. I may have recruited an existing but inactive member to get involved here. It was a great time to kick off the season. I'm sure it was the first of several times we'll get together this year.

 

Congrats to GolfinNut who had the low gross of 84, and a skin on the no.1 handicap hole, to rake in a lot of dough.

 

Here's yours truly taking the golfboard for a spin. And yes I remained upright and didn't cause any personal or property damage. So that was a win.

THREE JACKED the putt!! Between the driver failing me, the 4 or 5 approach shots which were less than 90 yards that were bladed and the amount of sand play that would have made David Hasselhoff jealous, it made for a very, very long day. I had three or four legitimate birdie putts that I couldn't convert (only one ended up being a par) and then there were the "other" holes consisting of a 7, a couple of 8's and a freaking 9! Double tapped an odd stance sand shot that made up the 9. I can't even LOL these comments because I was pretty disappointed with my play, considering I was killing it on the range right before the round. Being hung over may have contributed to the poor play, so I did what any hungover sane Golfer would do, I drank some more beer on the course

LOL, yeah PAgolfer2017 went right before me. One of the very few highlights/lowlights of my round. Ball was pin high left but had a downhill slightly left breaking putt - very makeable,except for me. Burned the edge and only had a 1' uphill putt. Didn't play the break and didn't hit it hard enough so the ball broke to the right hard when it got near the hole Don't worry, PAgolfer2017 reminded me the rest of the round how I robbed him of the CTP , ha ha ha! Great guy though.

Thanks Buddy.  I know over the years you and I have done more than a few of these.  A lot of work goes into them, but they are also a lot of fun.  It's worth it when you get guys driving 3 hours ( thank you GolfinNut) to make it back in time from the beach, and new guys jumping in for the first time to meet some new guys...Thanks PAGolfer..and a few from the local THP group that was good to meet.
