Great stuff man. I love the data it spits out and think that looks like useful information that *should* help improve your game. From what I've heard about V2, they'll be fixing a lot of the things you dinged them up on.

 

 

I really appreciate the fact that you followed through and finished your review through thick and thin. This review predates me and I never saw it come up in my timeline. Now, I get to go back and read through a new-to-me review. If you hadn't bumped it, I wouldn't have seen it.

I feel like I just took an online class

Your old scorecard gave me some ideas that I may borrow for my own game.

 

I'm glad you hit on short game accuracy because I too, wondered about that aspect. Distance to the pin and length of putts made are important stats I'd love to have. That being said, I'm glad to see how useful the long game feedback is. Gapping your clubs on a LM is one thing but gapping them based off on-course information is a whole 'nother animal.

 

The thing that makes me sad is it doesn't seem like any product will be able to truly offer precise data around the green as long as it's based off GPS. That sounds like it'll require an expensive (or non passive) solution to me.

 

 

 

 

I'm wondering how many things will be different in V2. The folks that pre ordered should be receiving theirs soon, right?

I think the should, I know they had an issue with quality and had to return or replace the first batch. But they shoild be coming out soon.

When I posted the review several months ago, my research on civilian GPS tech limitations left me similarly bummed out. However this announcement a few weeks ago has the potential to drastically improve location accuracy.

The word in tech circles suggest this new L5 GPS chip unfortunately did not make it into the iPhone X, but some 2018 Android platform releases have the potential to offer location accuracy within 30cm (less than 12"). It may be awhile before wearable tech has the processing/battery power to support this new hardware chip. Which to me means, in the short term, golf stat systems utilizing smart phone GPS (Arccos) are going to have a huge leg up compared to the systems unable to incorporate this tech advance.

Well that's an interesting development. I'm glad to see GPS technology taking a step forward.

 

While compelling, it's not enough of a reason for me to switch to Android this time around. Maybe iPhone Z will have it.

So I was poking around the Shot Scope website and found this:

Looks like the V1 users can upgrade to V2 on the cheap. That's really cool of them to do that since V2 is such a marked improvement.

 

 

If I get lucky with my eBay listings, this might be my next big golf purchase.

I saw that. I filled out the information they requested. See what happens. They also dont require you to return the old unit so buying a used devise might be a bit tricky if they deactivate the old unit.
