What did you want to be when you grew-up?

When you were a kid and daydreamed about what you were going to be when you grew-up, what did you dream of?

I guess I started out like most thinking I'd be a pro athlete. My problem was I played every sport there was so I never became great in any! When I hit HS and college, I really had no idea what I wanted to be. I'd still be coaching if it paid enough...

Anyway, what about you?

Architect... turns out you have to be good at math. And math was my C- subject.

 

But I'm starting college back up in June. First will be a BA in Business Analytics, then a MBA... and hopefully if I don't get bored a Doctorate of Business Analytics.

 

High hopes. But it's time for a career change.

A country western singer.   I actually auditioned for a local radio station WDEN in Macon, Ga. to review one of my songs for recording. I didn't have the money to take the next step and no record label to grow with.  I guess I didn't want to pursue that dream hard enough and I'll never know now.

A lawyer and kept that until my senior year in college. Had a dual degree as an undergrad with a BA in US History and a BS in Accounting. Did well on the LSATs and got into two Ivy League schools for law school. Elected to defer a year and take a job in finance and never went to law school. Passed the CPA exam and got an MBA instead.

Depends on my age.  When I was in grade school, I wanted to be a veterinarian.  My mom thought I should be a doctor.  In high school I fell in love with math and chemistry, and I wanted to be a nuclear scientist... well, whadda ya know!!

A trumpet player in a major symphony orchestra. I was all state two years running and got into Northwestern which is a top music school. Much like a top athlete it didn't take me long to see what it takes to achieve my goal and to figure out that I lacked an essential ingredient- the talent.

 

My musical training has served me well through life. As a young adult I played in a big band. At seminary I earned some money teaching private lessons, church history and music history walked side by side in the Middle Ages making a course that killed most guys a cake walk for me and in my church body it's very helpful for a pastor to have musical knowledge- I can do a mean Gregoria's chant.

Hmm Pro Athlete for me, but I 4 sported in High School and should have concentrated on 1 or 2 if I was going to do that. At one point my other choice was be in a band....but those usually don't pay well and I don't have the musical talent.

As a kid, I played football, basketball, baseball, swam, played tennis, golf, soccer, and I even shot skeet.

I wanted to be Earl Campbell/Ray Guy, Magic Johnson, Alan Trammell, Mark Spitz, Vitas Gerulaitis, Arnold Palmer, Pele, and my Uncle Bob! Ha! Whatever the sport was, I had a guy!

I wanted something to do with being outdoors. In Jr. High, I thought about being a Conservationist. But, I was around woodworking my whole life. In High School I decided that I wanted to do something in the Carpentry/Cabinetmaking trade. I ended up being a Cabinetmaker.

 

If only I would have been wise enough to invest a little money in Microsoft and Walmart...........

Yup. Anyone watch Jarhead? "Why are you here Swafford?" "I got lost on my way to college... SIR!"

 

Thanks to the plentiful microbreweries in Michigan I also quit college, and wound up in Swafford's shoes. 10 more years till I can "retire".

I wanted to be a civil engineer like my Grandfather. Had 2 yeRs of college before I enlisted in the Navy. I got out just before my Grandfather passed away, then returned to school with the GI Bill, got a 4.0 and an academic scholarship and graduated top of my class with a BS in Jewish Engineering..........Accounting.
