tony@CIC
Has anyone used the Ping putting app - where you put an iPhone into a holder on he putter. The app is free and the holder is $10. Apparently tracks putting performance. iTunes Store doesn't have any reviews. Kenny B
Ping HQ used it when I got fitted in Phoenix in February. Gives you interesting stats; for $10 it's worth it. JohnSmalls
I got my Ping cradle a couple of weeks ago. I think it is definitely worth the $10. IMO it has helped me learn how to become a more consistent putter from a tempo standpoint and it has made me focus more on my clubface angle at impact. Jiro
I used it once just to see what swing arc I had before a putter purchase, but I cheaped out and just duct taped it to my putter shaft since I only used it the one time. drewneddy
I use it. I'm not sure some of the stats there but it's nice to hone some consistency. I'd recommend it. Especially if you use a ping putter it can make an immediate impact since they suggest putters and lie angles. Liberty Ball Markers
I've heard good things about it, but never tried it myself. Kenny B
It's nice to know what your stroke is like so you can get a putter that's a good fit. I was a little surprised at the numbers when I was at the Ping fitter. I thought I had SBST stroke, but the app said I had a slight arc. My stroke was pretty much dead on to what it should be according to Ping. Since I rely totally on feel, I don't think I would use it routinely as a monitoring tool. I know if my stroke gets off a little, so I just spend a little time on the practice green. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

drewneddy
The problem is if you have a phone case you have to take that off and get it down to the bare phone before you can use. That detracts me from using it since I have an Otterbox and they aren't exactly easy on/off. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
cnosil
The other thing to note about the app is that the arc it describes is the putters rotation and not its path. tony@CIC
Well I tried it today - the data is really cool - but them I'm a tech junkie. Now the big question is what do I do with the data. tony@CIC
Yeah I don't think it matters what kind of putter its on - but then I'm not a professional fitter or instructor. It measures stuff like: closing angle, impact angle, tempo - back and forward, lie angle, shaft lean, etc. FYI if your a lefty - which I am, don't forget to change orientation in the upper right just below battery % The ah ha moment for me was the in the 'putter recommendation' it said I have a strong arc. I go to great pains to place a prominent line on my ball, then line it up with my putter thinking if those are spot on the ball will go straight (given a level green).
