I'll be in Milwaukee May 9 - 12th. Any course recommendations? Probably be my 2-3rd round of the year. Thanks!

- Da Yooper

Whistling Straits is only an hour north of there!! Lots of good golf in the WI area. I used to take an annual trip up there and always got in a few rounds.

The Bull at Pinehurst Farms I believe is another good one.

Where in Milwaukee will help to give you a better answer.    I enjoy MorningStar.  Others have said the Kohler courses.  Whistling Straights, BlackWolf Run.  If you are going to travel that far, there is also Washington County, and many fine courses in the Lake Geneva area as well.   Depending on what side of Milwaukee you are staying on some of these will be good options and some won't be.

Not sure yet. It's for business but if I can check out some local places, no when I check out some local places. Probably near downtown. Haven't gotten the specifics yet

A lot of great tracks within 45-90 min of downtown.

North: Whistling Straits (36), Blackwolf Run (36), The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, The Bog.

South (Lake Geneva): Geneva National (54), Grand Geneva (36), Hawk's View.

In Milwaukee: Brown Deer.

Weather supposed to be nice next week. Still early in the season for MKE, so you'll find great deals at nice courses.

Let me know your plans. Happy to help in any way and would try to meet for a round if schedule allows. Enjoy!

If they are here in time, of course. I'm a bit north of you.

I have a new life quest, I plan to play as many Arnold Palmer courses that I can before I go. Hopefully I can get to them all.

The Bog is def one to check off your list. They have an awesome practice range. I am playing it Fri... will let you know how the conditions are. We've had a very wet spring here.

Geneva National courses are Palmer-Player-Trevino. They are all nice.

Was going to stop by Whistling Straights till I looked at the rates... I will take a nice picture, and keep driving.

Playing The Bog on my way down, and The Bull sometime during the week. And maybe check out something in the city.

The Bull at Pinehurst Farms I believe is another good one.

My pro in Sheboygan said that if he had to play the Bull every day, he'd quit playing golf. Personally I would stay away from that one. I've played it a number of times and done okay with it but it's a brutal course, an hour away and expensive. There are lots of better choices IMO.

Blackwolf run is across the street from the Bull. Tough to get a tee time, costly but worth the price if you want something special.

Keep in mind that Whistling is over $400 and tough to get on as our the Blackwolf courses unless you are a guest of one of the Koehler.

There are lots of great courses in Wisconsin but they are expensive. I agree with Barbajo on the Bog and I think you can play it for under 100. Brown Deer Park, a former GMO site, is out that way and around 60 for a non-city resident. That's probably your best deal for a quality course fairly near downtown.

You really should try Brown Deer Shankster. Lots of elevation changes, not much water but plenty tough enough. I loved playing there as I could compare my game to the guys on tour at that time.

Played that Blue Mound?

Brown deer is on my list. I'm shooting for 18 holes a day, after class.

Report from The Bog: Played the course yesterday (May 5) for only $43, including cart and range balls (booked on TeeOff.com). Can't beat that! This course fetches $100+ in summer, although the new owners are running more specials and generally lowered the prices. On that note, this was my first time playing The Bog since new owners took the reigns last year, and there is no fall-off in quality. The course is in good condition. Lots of people working on it.

Right now, The Bog is playing without the normal amount of punishment. The fescue has not yet grown out, and the greens are a bit slower than usual. The friendlier conditions were not reflected in my score! We will chalk that to still shaking off the Wisconsin winter rust. If punishment is what you are seeking, just play the Black tees at 7,221 yards and 143 slope. You will get more for your money.

Haven't played Brown Deer Park yet this year, but you can play it at a steal with their Spring specials. Right now, Mon thru Wed rates are $39 (incl cart and $8 pro shop credit). Other times are only $50. For the last couple of years, they have been making specials available to residents and non-residents. I assume that hasn't changed.

Conditions at Brown Deer have slowly deteriorated since losing the PGA tour event in 2010, but it is still a bucket list course if you are visiting Milwaukee. You simply have to play a round of golf where at the venue where Tiger Woods made his professional debut in '96.
