Shankster
Every once and a while I'll get on the YouTube looking for a new shot or something. Liberty Ball Markers
I won't watch instruction videos. A wise man once said to never take swing advice from someone who has never seen your swing. I have a good buddy that I play with once a week. Every week, he shows up touting a new swing tweak that he got from a video. Every week by the end of the front 9, he abandons his tweak, and every week he struggles to break 90. Every week he talks as we pack up to leave about not understanding why he's not getting any better... tony@CIC
I watch Thomas Golf videos all the time and it's helped my game. I've taken lots of lessons but the videos seem to click for me - may be because I can see it vs. trying to visualize what my instructor was telling me. The key to remember is that we all learn in different ways - some can read and implement. I have to watch - guess that makes me a visual learner. However I don't try to confuse it with different video sources - that would be too confusing for me. dadivots
Youtube is a good resource IF you know what your looking for. This vs. that, look over here, like, subscribe, comment... Naw. But some of the lessons some of them give could be helpful if one knows the problem to be fixed in the first place. But in the end it too like the golf channel can be a quick trip to golf misery. The slow-mo's of the great swings out there past and present are worth their weight in gold, along with an instructor or two who knows how to keep the tour guys getting better. As someone said, basically, if it was there 20 years ago my game would have benfiited for it. Shankster and pbclub

TSauer
Being a southpaw from a very small town limits my help when I asks others, because they find it difficult to reverse everything. I often use YouTube to looks up tips on how to fix a certain swing flaw or something of that nature. For me, it's made my game better. The only reason for this is because I have never had lessons. So, I can see how it harms others' game when they are already fundamentally sound. GolfSpy_APH
Personally I will admit that I have used YouTube to help with swing fixes. That being said going to a coach has been much more beneficial. Although I want to improve, I golf for the enjoyment of the sport and to get outside! Trying to tweak something all the time just seems to take the fun out of it and makes my game worsez Equipment reviews I do love watching! alfriday101
In January, I discovered Shawn Clement''s YouTube channel I watched a few of the videos and started doing some of the drills. His approach clicked with me. I wondered why I hadn't found his approach years ago. It fits with the way I learn. His philosophy on learning a swing really helped me. My playing partners have certainly noticed the improvement in my game. What I like about Shawn's approach is that the videos fit together. There is a basic approach running through all the videos. There is no "do this to fix this problem." He starts with how the swing is the same as tossing a ball, using a grass whip (which I have used on the farm), hitting a tennis ball, etc. The analogies really help me to know I am doing something right. The balance drills have really helped and I find I swing with more confidence and a lot fewer out of balance swings. While the process series has been great, the mental side of the game has probably been the most helpful. I have been accused of "paralysis by analysis" in the past. The approach Shawn goes over in the videos has helped me get out of my head and into playing golf--I am moving away from playing the golf swing to playing the course. Shawn has helped me. YMMV. I think the key to the videos is that they are integrated into an overall approach. Sometimes they get a little boring because of the repetition--I saw him talk about X in four other videos. But, the approach works for me. As for other videos, I am done looking for quick fixes. They remind me too much of some of the pros I've taken lessons from--they give me a bandaid when I needed major surgery. Shankster

HunkaTurf
This is a very interesting question. A lot of instructors are producing content that is well intended but each and every golfer has a unique swing with many quirks (especially amateurs) and so a tip that is applicable to one golfer may not be for another. Most amatuer golfers (including myself) aren't capable of filtering out the useful stuff for them. I think there is a lot to learn from YouTube if you have a decent understanding of your swing and know what to look for. tony@CIC and William P
ridgewalker
I would say it's definitely made me better. As much as there can be a lot of differing information, you know your on to good info when you see multiple reputable sources mentioning it. GolfSpy_APH
Again I have been going through some old threads that are relevant now and this one really stands out. It has been nearly 5 years since this was last posted in, but it may be more relevant now that it was back then. What are your thoughts? For me it has changed, watching channels like TXG and more has made me more knowledgeable and therefore better. However I don't give nearly as much credence to equipment reviews as I did back then. I know more about the swing and so on, so it has made me better but not so much technically more mentally if that makes sense. pbclub and William P 2 Quote as of Nov 6, 2023 (Past WITB) Driver: Paradym TD w/ GD ADDI 6X Driver Shootout!
