Oh why yes

Glad you like! I think we could build the ultimate ball guide for our members, by our members. The key will be sticking to the template and using the same naming conventions.

Neat idea MBP. You are absolutely correct about strict language parameters being crucial for this experiment. With so many equipment variables it's going to really difficult to identify reliable trends from subjective concepts like feel and perception of performance as they translate from one individual to the next. I'll be very interested to see what kind of participation and data comes out of the project.

Great idea, except for this- for frame of reference, could we include ratings of the current gamer ball? Of course, sticking to the template, plain and simple. I think this would be almost necessary to triangulate in on ball performance- to show differences between two balls, while also showing the plain uncorrupted take on the new ball.

Review your current gamer seperately, link to it with each new review and then do a comparison in your additional write ups?

We've added some explanations to the first post better explaining the template naming conventions etc. Here's a recap:

Distance
It's hard to tell if a ball is going exactly 2 yards or 6 or 10 yards less or further, but most will be able to say "same, better or less"

Trajectory - high, mid, low
Should be self explanatory

Spin
Suck back - high spin
Hop & stop - great spin
Release some -trends to run out a bit
Roll out - there's no coming back

Feel - firm, crunchy, soft, mushy
Should be self explanatory

Durability (1 round) - like new, scuffed but payable, rough shape
Should be self explanatory

Rating
Gamer - could replace or become part of current rotation
Casual - would play again if given or found
Avoid - do not like

Notes or writeup:
Use this section to tell us everything you thought about the ball, compare it to other balls and all other observations

I guess we're hoping people will write a more flushed out and detailed version of their gamer using the template and contributing to the thread, but please feel free to add this if you like.

I found a Wilson Staff Duo ball, and I bought a dozen of them after hitting the ball. I have six rounds in with this ball. The price is right at approximately $20 per dozen. The thing that I like about it at the 29 compression it has is that it feels like the old balata balls to me when I hit it.

The ball is longer off my driver and irons. From a full swing in the fairway I get hop and stop action on the green. Around the green it is definitely NOT a Pro V1....it does run out more.

The ball has great durability. For the price it is a good ball!

The player

Current gamer - Srixon Z Star

Handicap  - 0.2+

7 iron distance with current ball - 170 yd

Trajectory - Mid/High

Putter - Bobby Grace 6330 (soft feel)

The ball

Kirkland Signature - 2016

Distance - Same

Trajectory - Mid/High

Spin - High Spin

Feel - Medium/firm

Durability (1 round) - Good

Rating - Good substitute but prefer the Z Star for feel

Notes:

- I found it a hair longer off the driver

- Surprising great into the wind

- Similar to any premium ball I have played including ProV1x and TPx

- I don't like alignment aids but KS is subtle, very small print and arrows not too distracting

- Tested a dozen after playing, 10 balls were medium feel but two were clicker so maybe a QC issue?
- $15 is just insane for a premium ball

Handicap or Ave score - 7

7 iron distance with current ball - 165y

Trajectory - Mid

Putter - Cleveland Tfi #1 copper face (medium feel)

The ball

Srixon Q Star Tour - 2017

Distance - Same

Trajectory - Mid

Spin - Hop & Stop

Feel - Soft

Durability (1 round) - Like new

Rating - Gamer

Notes:

- Except for a tree it would look brand new after 18

- Driver spin appears quite low

- Good workability

- Spin Skin seems to have a affect as pitches grab on first/second hops

- Wasn't sucking back full swings 3 feet, but stops right away

- Able to control trajectory very well

- Nice and soft, but never feels mushy - very pleasant feel

- Excellent alignment aid on side

Thanks

Although it's still a little cool and soft greens, I really impressed that the Q Star Tour is playing like a tourish ball. Think Bridgestone B330RXS.

And would love to see your review once you've played em.

So is it a gamer?

... Yea it's a gamer and I would play one without reservation if I had to. Performance is equal to any premium ball I have played and it just comes down to feel for me and I prefer the Z Star. I imagine those that find the Z Star a little too soft might actually prefer the KS.

Current gamer - Nike RZNTour Black

Handicap - 3.2
7 iron carry distance with current ball - 180 yds
Trajectory - mid/high
Putter -Odyssey Works 2 Ball Fang, medium feel

The ball:
Nike RZNTour Black, 2016

Distance - better
Trajectory - mid (very controllable, you can make if low or high if need be. It doesn't blow up.)
Spin - hop & stop
Feel - crunchy/soft (Right in between these, it has great feel throughout the bag)
Durability (1 round) - like new
Rating - Gamer

Notes or writeup:
I was fortunate enough to get selected to test the Nike RZNTour Platinum last summer and fell in love with it. I hadn't tried a Nike ball in years after buying a box of 20XIs a few years ago and absolutely hated them. Shortly into that test, the Platinum became my new gamer, I was so impressed with how it performed throughout the bag. The only downside to the Platinum was that it got a little spinny on the mid irons and on shots that were slightly miss-hit. After exclusively using the Platinum since that test, I decided to give the Black a shot to see how it compared. I was surprised to find out that I liked it even better than the Platinum! The reasons are below:

- Slightly better driver distance, I am noticing about 5 yards more with the Black.

- 6-7 yards more on the mid and low irons.

- Still has great performance around the green, it checks up when you want it to.

- I honestly can't tell a difference between the Black and the Platinum on approach shots, it sticks.

- Very workable, you can get it going in the direction you want but it is slightly more forgiving than the Platinum.

- Great feel throughout the bag, not too hard, not too soft.

- Good feel with the putter, the alignment aid is nice too.

- The only downside is that they won't be making it anymore, I'm probably going to stock up on a few boxes and play this as long as I can. The upside is that it is now cheaper than other tour balls.

I wish there was a way to purchase older model pro v1's. For me the version they had in 2013 was great. It's almost disappointing they tweek them every year
