maybe try and add weight for slow greens. i find the red day was very light and was good on fast icy green but wasn't good on slow greens

A guy at my local course got the red one and let me try it the other day. I found it not as well balanced as my #7 and the lack of a sight line difficult to line up. Wasn't a big fan of the feel either.

I really wanted to love the red one, really love the headcover, but the feel wasn't there for me vs my tp mills.

Got to give it more time

Have to eat these words now... though it didn't feel as good as my previous putter- still doesn't, the reds working out pretty well now.

... Thanks but I do not like sight lines. My problem is the size of the putter head. After playing with a thin looking heel shafted 8802 style putter for 30 years the Spider Tour is just so unwieldy, at least to my eye. But like a true golf forum member, I took it out for a farewell round yesterday and putted much better with it. I might give it a few more rounds to see if I can ignore the size and just putt like I always have.

I'm a feel putter and I really like the spider black. My distance control and speed have been very good with it. However, I have always used a bigger, heavier type putter. I recently switched to a Scotty golo3 and had to stop using it after 6 months and needed to get something bigger. I've putted pretty well with it. It doesn't make enough putts but that's because of me!

... That's why they make putters in different sizes and shapes. :)  I do have quite a bit of lead tape on my Bobby Grace and also prefer a heavier putter, but I am just too used to the 8802 like blade I have looked down at for 40 years.

My dad just put one in the bag.  The red one.  He absolutely loves it.  Its all about confidence.  Put a brick on an end of a stick if it makes you feel you can drop puts.  If you like the feel and the look, go for it.

I had to kill some time in town while my lady was at an appointment. So I dropped her off and cruised down the street to the store. Was rolling the black one because it was the only one that didn't have plastic on it. I was putting really well with it, but I'm convinced their greens are rigged.

Wonder if the spider's popularity will wane a little now that DJ switched to a blade putter last weekend?

He may switch back too, but to note, he's using a Tyson Lamb-made Wayne Gretzky head cover with the putter last weekend

*cue superman theme music*

Dustin Johnson switched to a black spider with a black sight line 20 minutes prior to his second round overseas and shot a 63 today.

http://golfweek.com/2017/10/27/dustin-johnson-shoots-63-to-take-from-brooks-koepka-lead-at-wgc-hsbc-champions/

Pretty amazing stuff*

* I know he's got all-world talent and could shoot a 65 with a croquet mallet but to switch putters 20 minutes before a round and fire a 63 is out of this world crazy.

Lot of people love those Spiders but they just look horrible to me when i set one down behind the ball. Just seems like too big of a head for a little slant neck putter. That and the terrible finishes that TaylorMade puts on clubs (paint chips) is a big turn off for me. But hey, whatever works for you! If I had made some putts when I tried one I would be talking about how beautiful they are lol

I picked up a Red Spider with sight line #3 (thanks cyber week deals on budgetgolf.com)...man that sight line makes a huge difference. I know it's just like the older spiders but I was rolling it great on the greens today. We'll see how long the honeymoon lasts.

I used to have the older Ghost Spider S putter and at the end of last year I went through testing a bunch of putters to find a new one.  During that process I did try the spider putter and to be honest there wasn't much change at all from the older model.  I didn't really feel like the face technology really improved over the years.  I was shocked that they still had a plastic insert in the putter.  After trying Toulon, Scotty Cameron and Ping's vault putters I notice a huge difference in performance.  You could hear the ball skipping less on longer putts which kept the ball on line so much better.  I also noticed a huge improvement on consistency on off-centered strikes.  With the TM putters, I notice a huge gap between a slightly toe strike and a center strike.  In my personal opinion the spider is just hype because of how much money they have spent on advertising.  I don't feel it performs anywhere near the other putters out there.

TM has put plumber necks ("L" Necks) on all their spiders for retail purchase. I see a lot of them at PGA SS.

Well my putting has reached critical mass so I bought one of these off eBay to give a try. It's a spider black that theoretically should match my stroke as measured by Sam PuttLab. I don't like hitting putters on practice store greens so I just decided to buy a used one and give it a go. I can probably recoup most of it if it doesn't work. Fingers crossed!

I'm pretty sure I bought one about a week after that post lol. I've been rolling it for a bit now. Still like it. I put a superstroke counter balance on it for a little more weight.

Now if someone could read all my putts I'd be in business.

Now the Mini Spider is available for sale...Tried the black, didn't like the lack of alignment. Tried the red with a sightline and despite changing the head weight, never really liked how it felt in my hands. I mean, I would do myself an injustice if I didn't give the mini a go. Heaven forbid I break the cycle of buying a spider, selling said spider, and then buying another spider.

Rolled the mini at lunch today. Definitely firmer feel to it. Feels like the ball comes off the face hot. Rolled the ball really well with it. Face balanced and the alignment is a personal preference. The mini is small, almost like a little sledgehammer behind the ball. I prefer the silver finish over the red. Personally, on synthetic turf, I preferred the mini over the exo 7 and Scotty 7M... But I'm a lefty so options were limited.
