Golf Ball Spinner?

Do any of you guys spin your golf balls to put a line on them?

Ive seen all the machines, salt water tests, and that.

 

A study or two do say that center lines helps in everything from putting to driving. I dont doubt that they do but wonder how long a ball keeps that center line or point of gravity.

 

I dont know if MGS has done a test on the ball spinners and the results but it would be interesting for sure.

Interesting that you brought this up -- not for nothing and not to hijack the thread, but I got a package in the mail today with a sleeve of Zen Tour IV golf balls, and press release touting them as the "first perfectly balanced golf ball."

I read this awhile ago, 9 pages long and 15 years old but I pulled a paragraph from the conclusion.

 

"Our GCR testers all entered this comparison review thinking that spin-balanced balls would play a bit better than unbalanced balls, but that the difference would not be enough to justify the time and aggravation that went with spin balancing. By the end of the review process it had become obvious to all that balance-oriented golf balls performed decidedly better than their unbalanced counterparts, and that these differences were great enough to make balance-oriented balls well worth the effort required in playing them. Our crew became converts."

 

It would be an interesting test on more current balls.

Yes, I might have read this one, or another, but the balls used were a variety from a pinnacle to a top flite. Understandable there finding, that 'balanced-oriented golf balls'... of those type would benefit from it.

Funny this topic came up. 

Just yesterday I stopped by a local golf shop and picked up a doz. of the new Q-Star balls to try. At the counter they had a few Check-go ball spinners. I joked to the buddy I was with that he needed one to gain that extra little edge over me for todays game. I also mentioned that I actually own one of the things. A friend several years back gave it to me. He'd ordered one and the retailer shipped him two of them. Yes. I've tried it... once I recall. What I recall is that after spinning up a ball and marking it; then replacing the ball back in the device and spinning it a second time the ball would line back-up to the original balance point as previously marked. Or close anyway. Perhaps there is something to it. I don't know. I certainly don't recall any differences in the way my ball performed or my scoring. Otherwise I'd still be using it. It's interesting but I don't think it's worth messing with personally.

I have one of the older model spinners the Check Go.  I did use it for quite a while but I became tired of the hassle of doing them.  It is not hard to do so maybe it is just that I am lazy, lol.   I could not see enough benefit from spinning that I ever started doing them again.   Maybe I am not good enough to see the benefit, I don't know but I would be interested to see what others think.

My curiosity got the better of me so I went out and got some Epsom Salt. I took four new balls, e6, gamer soft, duo and a Srixon. I spun all four, marked the top with a sharpie and spun them again several times. Not once did same spot come up twice so it appears they all have good balance.

 

After that I took four used balls and spun them. All four of them had the same spot float to the top after numerous spins. So I guess it is possible to knock the balls out of whack. I did putt with the used balls and saw no difference on the bedroom carpet.
