(6) TESTERS WANTED!!!

SkyCaddie LINX GT - 5.jpg

SkyCaddie LINX GT GPS Watch/

Shot Tracking System

Way back in 1968, Smuckers had the bright idea of combining peanut butter and jelly in one jar. Whether the inventor of the idea was too busy to open up two jars or simply hated the idea of using two knives is unknown, but the two-in-one combo idea was a hit and Goober is still on the shelves nearly a half-century later.

A GPS watch/shot tracking system is another one of those two-in-one combo ideas that looks appealing on the surface. There are plenty of shot tracking products out there (Arccos, Game Golf, Shot Scope) and more GPS watches than we can name.

But putting both together? SkyCaddie thinks they have it figured out.

SkyCaddie-LINX-GT-3.jpg Testers Wanted:

SkyCaddie's new LINX GT can work as a stand alone GPS watch, can be synched to your Smartphone for an HD overview of the entire hole and, with the addition of SmartTags, automatic shot tracking with full round statistics.

Does the LINX GT sound like a shot tracking/GPS game changer? Is it golf's version of PB & J in one jar? We need 6 avid golfers to help us find out.

I have not had the opportunity to use a GPS watch. I have had the golflogix app and Nikon Coolshot so, a watch always seemed to be overkill on knowing the distance.

I have used Game Golf and Game Golf Live, both good concepts and the later is an improvement on the first generation. However, it was a little disappointing to loose tags because they would loosen from the vibration of swinging and riding in the cart. I did feel that it was a useful tool though and enjoyed the data I collected from it and saw improvement with its use. Sadly, both had design flaws with the belt clip damaging easily and poor customer service with trying to get repaired. I fixed both issues myself and in simple ways. For the tags, electrical tape was the answer. the Game Golf website recommended cutting off the "screw" on the tag and using a strong double sided tape. I felt this would damage the product and would not keep the tags of the clubs anyway. The electrical tape held them in place well and did not interfere with my swing/grip.  For the base unit belt clip, the hinge broke on both models due to a very flimsy hinge design. Having the base unit in my pocket was not useful for using the product and looked really weird trying to get it to tag. The solution was a simple elastic hair band from my wife that I would wrap around the belt and the Game Golf base unit. it worked and did not get in the way. Game golf live was suppose to allow for tagging directly to an NFC phone but, this did not always work and was slow to pick up the tagged club.

Sadly, my Game Golf Live stopped tracking anything and I could never get the company to respond to me for assistance. I have recently purchased a new unit, the whole thing tags, and base, off of eBay and will take it out soon.

I know this was a longer response than you asked for. I really want to compare this to what I have used in the past.  I like seeing the data of my game, how I played a course and where I can improve. This is a tool to do that and Skycaddy has a long and excellent reputation.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to being a tester of this system.
