I have not used a range finder or watch GPS myself, but have played with buddies who have one. Currently, I use Foursum to track my scores on my phone and make sure my scores are accurate.

I play at least twice a week and can update regularly.

I have never used a specifically golf oriented watch, but have used a Pebble with Swing by Swing app for GPS

I have used Game Golf, the original one with the tags in your clubs.
