Tiger to bag a Method putter upon his return?!?!

Moecat

Recommended Posts

Ok, so this RUMOR is one of those "heard from a friend of a friend" deals ... specifically, my friend who knows someone on staff with Nike (PGA Tour? Executive? Sorry, I didn't get that level of detail).

Basically, Nike will make Tiger dump his Scotty for a custom Method instead. Nike is shelling out the bucks, and after this whole "bimbo-gate" fiasco, it actually has the leverage to make such a demand.

Do any of you think this is realistic?

Only way I believe this is if Nike has Cameron custom mill about 20/30 for Tiger to try out.

To tell you the truth I would not be at all surprised if Tiger had an ownership position with the Nike Golf brand part of the company similar to what Greg Norman has had in the past with his companies.

Nike would not have a golf brand without Tiger and the idea that they now have the upper hand as to what he plays I don't buy.

I do think it is realistic. If I recall correctly, he switched to the new Nike ball in 2001 - when was playing great with the Titleist ball. Nike has never been very serious about the putter category until the Method. He has used the same putter for what, 12 years? at some point he will try a new putter. And, to be honest, he would be a great putter with no matter what he uses. He putted great with his Ping Anser 2 before he switched to Scotty.

I am not saying that I believe this rumor, I just think that he will switch at some point. He has always been loyal to Nike (for good rea$on$), but them standing behind him in his darkest hour will only further that loyalty.

Well for one thing, this is not a rumor that I started. I'm just posting what other people have stated

Do people really think Tiger is a billionaire? After expenses for private jets, yachts, mansions, lost revenues from sponsors who have bolted ... oh yeah ... and TAXES and LAWYERS, I somehow doubt it. And Nike is a $30+ BILLION company. So yes, in the long run I tend to think that Nike could afford to lose Tiger more than the other way around.

Check out the photo below ... not doctored in any way. Could simply be a special line of retail "TW" Method putters in the making, of course. Time will tell.

I don't think it'll happen any time soon. Tiger LOVES that Scotty.

I dont think he loves anything but himself

as for the Putter only time will tell. We have all seen him bag things from Nike over the years that we thought he wouldnt, we never expected him to lose the 970 3 wood or ever put a 5 wood in the bag

i hope he doesnt switch. if tiger were playing TM or Titleist he would probably have jacks record by now. i have given nike golf equipment several chances over the years and am disappointed every time. have had 3 drivers with a cracked face. (ignite, sq, sq sumo).

I won't be surprised if he does make the switch. If he can change to their ball, no way he can't make the change to their putter. Plus, IIRC, he was spotted last year practicing with one prior to one of the tournaments. Not to mention that The Method putter has gotten all kinds of good press/pub...even from non-Nike players.

Tiger didn't putt well for him last year. He may give it a run and may want to give Nike some thanks for sticking with him during his fiasco.

How many majors would Jack have won with Taylor Made or Titleist?? 50?? 100?? It never ceases to amaze me. "I think brand X sucks, and can't hit it very good, so how can it be any good for the tour players?? The most important club in Tigers bag is not in his bag. It is on his shoulders. Same for Jack.

Nope.

After all of his trauma, the lack of an old friend on the green would be too much at this point. The TW method is for us to play, not him. IMHO

Absolutely not realistic if you're basing it on Nike 'shelling out the bucks'. Really? You think Tiger is worried about money??

Not the first time I heard this rumor.

Tiger is always experimenting. Maybe he will stick with the Scotty after all is said and done. Remember last year when Tiger was testing shafts? Nobody thought he could ever even think about moving from a Diamana. Never say never.

What difference does it make anyway? Whatever he plays will not be available in the shop.

I believe if this particular putter was for TIGER you would see "TIGER" stamped or etched in his putter not TW. I believe it's just for pubic consumption.

First off, Tiger isn't a Billionaire any longer. Half of that is probably sitting in a Swiss bank account with Elin's name on it. If you want to play, then be prepared to pay...

I think its possible that Tiger could switch if he had a direct hand in the development of the putter. He is very exacting when it comes to his equipment. I remember reading about how he can detect when his back-up Scotty is off by a gram or two in weight. Totally unreal.

tiger can either start opening up more or shut down like before and we see how that went but he will be trying to please his sponsors the ones he still has left and at least shwing them the loyalty they need now and a much needed make over for himself personally and in the public eye

I could see this happening right now. With so many changes in his life, this could be the easiest one of them all to pull off. I think it is just a matter of Tiger reaching his comfort level with a new putter. His Cameron has served him so well in the past, I'm sure it would take him a little while to have confidence in a new one, but once he does, then it would be business as usual. Sooner or later I'm guessing the change will come and right now seems like the perfect time.

I've seen this speculation elsewhere and I, for one, do NOT buy it. I don't believe Nike has any leverage whatsoever when it comes to that putter that has won 13/14 (right?) majors. Their entire brand is built around him. They dump him, he wins another major, and he signs the biggess TM/Cally/etc deal in history. And regardless of how much money he has lost from this fiasco, he still has more than he will ever need.

Hard to tell what Nike will expectin retribution to all the B.S. that has happened but Tiger will always do what he wants with all his clubs!!!!!!!!

I dunno...there's all that rehab, lost endorsement revenue, mistress hush money, contributions towards the wife's offshore contingency accounts, her second house in Europe, and then there is that 7-iron that needs to be replaced in her bag. Big bucks my brother! B)

Well, if Nike buys Scotty like is rumored in the other thread then all of this won't matter much. They could just stamp a swoosh on his putter and problem solved.
