Curious what type of grips are most popular when putting;

feel free to elaborate (or not) on why you chose the grip you use and if you are considering switching or just switched for a particular reason.

I just got a new counterbalanced putter and am considering switching to either pencil or left hand low in order to keep my shoulders square to the target better.

I use a standard dominant hand low grip. Tried the claw, left hand low, etc.. But never got comfortable with them.

I switched to non-dominate hand low this year and have had good success with it.  Feel like I have more control of the stroke and it didn't take long to get used to it where now it feels very natural.

Traditional for me. I attempted a new stance, like Arnie's but too many 3 putts so I shelved it after 3 rounds

I've always been a little streaky with the putter and constantly have to reinvent my putting method.

I had always used an interlock grip with traditional hand low but decided to give crosshanded a shot last year. It was uncomfortable for less than a week before it took.

So now I'm left hand low with an interlock grip. Still a bit streaky as a putter but less so. When its on, I feel like I can make most anything and when its off I can still somewhat keep it around the hole.

Crosshand has never felt right to me even as a right handed golfer who is left handed. I used to be a double interlock and putted well for a long time, then went to single interlock, and now I hold it with the pinky overlap, just like my clubs. Been rolling it better

I'm not sure what it's called, but I hold my club like normal with my left hand (left handed player) and my right index and middle fingers are then wrapped around the fingers of my left hand.

There's nothing "normal" about it when you are standing on the wrong side of the ball  :D jk jk

I used to use a regular grip, but I found when I would stop and bring the club forward, it would pull in towards my body just a little bit and I kept hitting it toward the toe. Over the winter I've been practising LH low and I seem to be straighter going back and through.

Whenever this damn snow leaves for good I'll actually know if its better or not!!!

I always putted crosshand (left hand low), it's the way my dad taught me as a kid. I really like it, I get my lead arm very straight and just let it sweep/pendulum across my body. My line isn't always great but I have really good speed control this way.

Use whatever grip feels the best and gives the best results.  IMO it doesn't matter what grip you use, as long as it isn't the same grip for your full swing.

Mine was the same as my full swing until last year. Now its the same grip just with left hand low.

I use left hand low.. I never even took notice that I changed grip when I was putting, untill a few years after I started playing (when I was 6 or 7 (46 now), when the local pro asked me about it.. I didn't know what he was talking about :-).. ) so I guess I just did what felt natural..

A full swing grip is supposed to promote a release of the club.  IMO, I think the best putting stroke is one that stays square to the line the longest.  I would not want my full swing grip to release with irons and woods, but hold off with a putter.  I think it leads to more inconsistency.

Interesting that nobody has mentioned the "pencil" style.... both Rose and Garcia used that grip in the Masters and it seems to have become more and more popular on tour....

I'm finding that I am equally poor at putting no matter what grip I use, I need to use a DP for putting, much the same way a pitcher uses a DH in baseball.

Right hand low seems to allow me to make better contact, but I struggle getting it started on line with that grip. Standard grip I struggle with getting good contact all the time, but I get it started on line. Maybe I'll switch to one Handed putting.

This works for me too.

Got from an old picture/article on Greg Norman's putter grip.

Ill be dambed if I can find it again but that was the idea there too.

Traditional overlap for me unless I am on really fast greens and then I may use the claw.

Mike Malaska has a pretty good youtube series and he mentioned that the "flat" part of the superstroke grip would be better if it didn't align with the top of the club but to the side that you putt with (right side for righty and left for lefty) because that ensures/forces the right forearm to be parallel to the face of the club and the right arm controls the face direction.

Never thought of it this way but interesting concept; especially if you are having problems keeping the face square.
