Rikki03038 60
Went to my first demo day of the year yesterday and tried to hit everything I could. Drivers irons hybrids wedges anything they had left handed. I kept going back to the Wilson tent and could not believe their irons! The tour 100's are the best looking clubs I saw all day, and the rep had to pry the v6 out of my hands. When did Wilson come back? Butter soft workability yet hard enough that I felt would stand up for years. I'd game them if I could talk the mrs. Into letting me buy new irons. Anyone else notice this? TSauer 4,258
All I know is that those FG Tour 100s are so aesthetically pleasing. I've never thought about gaming Wilsons, but they sure do look good. 3 Quote G400 Max G410 3W G410 3 & 4 Crossover i200 5-PW Vokey SM7 | 52-56-60 Taylormade Spider X
Golfspy_CG2 32,691
They have been making a resurgence with quality clubs the past 4 years or so, but the general golf public remains dumb to the fact. I had D200 irons two years ago and they were great, I've had the D300 driver and FMP wedges, so I have definitely supported them the past few years. I know exactly what you mean about the V6, we had a demo at our course a few weeks back, and I just kept hitting it and hitting it. I thought it was above my paygrade, but I was hitting it well. The FG Tour100's are pure golf porn and should have a NSFW disclaimer....LOL I do think Wilson needs to do a better job of marketing to the general public, i know they put a lot into the Triton and the show behind it, but the current C200' and C300's are among the best in their respective categories, imo. 6 Quote TSi1 Aldila Ascent 40G shaft TSi2 18 FW with GD AD IZ 6 Shaft TSi1 20 and 23 degree hybrids Aldila Ascent Shafts R T300 5-P Tensei R flex shaft 1/4 long SM8 48F/54/58 D Grinds Tyne 4 ProV1X Play number
GolfSpy Barbajo 9,600
Oh you touched a subject near and dear to my heart -- in some ways Wilson never really went away - Wilson Staff has been making a steady string of dandy players irons for a long time. Businesswise, however, they were damn near dead is '06-'07. Tim Clarke saved the Staff when he took over in '06, and he had a huge assist from Padraig Harrington with 3 majors in 18 months that put Wilson back on the map. Irons wise - starting with the original FG Tour players cavity back Wilson has had some of the very best irons out there. Played some of my best golf with the V4 irons and TC Tour wedges - wish to hell I still had them - and the current lineup can compete with anybody's. And from the shameless self-promotion file - check out Wilson's Journey into and out of darkness... https://www.mygolfspy.com/how-the-wilson-staff-empire-crumbled/ https://www.mygolfspy.com/rebuilding-wilson-golf/ https://www.mygolfspy.com/so-what-now-wilson/ 6 Quote What's in the bag: Driver: TSi3 FW Wood: PXG Gen4 2-wood Hybrids: PXG Gen4 18-degree Utility Irons: Staff Model Utilities 18, 21, 24* Irons:; PXG 0211; Pro Combo; FTX Combo;'99 Apex Plus; '99 Apex blades; 2010 VIP irons; VIP 1025 V-Foil MB/CB; Wedges: RTZ ZipCore: Riviera 52-56-60 Putter: Newport Special Select; Willamette, BB8; Buckingham; MATI Monto Ball: Tour B X; Z-STAR XV; Triad Stat Tracker/GPS Watch: Follow @golfspybarbajo

Agreed .. they didn't "go away" but were very under-marketed - especially when compared to, eg., TaylorMade and Callaway. Almost went with the C200s myself, after a bunch of demo'ing and testing, but ended up with the Cobra F6s (just a "feel" thing, otherwise the Wilsons were great). 3 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... ..Callaway Big Bertha B21 driver (Recoil ES 450/F3) ..Callaway Bertha Mini 1.5 (UST ProForce V2-HL 5/F3) ..Callaway Epic Max 5W (PX Cypher 50/5.0) ..Callaway Big Bertha 4H and 5H (both Recoil ZT9/F3) ..PXG 0211 6i-GW (Mitsubishi MMT 60/A) ..Cleveland CBX2 54 and CBX 60 (Rotex graphite) ..EvnRoll ER5 or MLA XDream (Edel EAS 4.0 on the bench) ..all in a Datrek bag on an MGI Zip Navigator electric cart. jlukes 16,473
Irons wise, I don't think they ever left. They make perhaps the most underrated players irons on the market. I just think they are still suffering from a bit of brand identity issues with the younger golfers. A lot of golfers under the age of 30 don't remember when WS was THE iron on tour. Instead, Wilson is associated with the all-in-one box sets you can find at sporting goods stores or discount retailers like WalMart. Wilson Staff has made some progress on shedding that association, but I still don't think they are quite there. I think if WS was candid, Driver vs Driver did not deliver the hype they were hoping and they are still an afterthought to the average golfer. 7 Quote G410 LST 9* Tour AD DI 6X G425 LST 14.5* Tour AD DI 7X 818 H2 20* Tour AD DI 85X MP20 HMB 4 - Tour AD 95X JPX 919 Tour 5-PW OBAN CT 115X(-) Vokey SM7 50F - 54S - 60D PLD Milled Anser 2 ProV1
