Best Wedges?

Not sure of what Cleveland wedges might be right for you? Well we have a wedge fitting system that can help you decide! Bounce, lofts, and style all in one place. You can check it out.

Cleveland Golf's Wedge Fitting System

This is a nice service. Owned a set of CG12 that were not right for me. Interesting result that it was CG15 for PW and GW with CG14 for the SW.

Everyone talks about their favorite wedge, but what is the true difference between the Vokeys, Cleveland and Mizuno wedges... other than feeling, im probably not tech savy enough to tell the difference.

any thought.

I am just an amateur golfer but have tried many wedges from low cost to high end and have found no wedge that compares to the Solus 4.1 and 7.1! These things produce so much spin even for a guy like me (and trust me my swing is not the best! LOL) you almost have to get used to the stopping power of these wedges! The Solus Wedge feels great due to the great balance they have also. I don't know about anyone else but my vote is for the affordable Solus Wedge with the old box grooves! Anyone else ever tried these wedges? Looks like you can enter to win a new set of the tour only wedges right here on Golf Spy but once again I am sticking with the box groove, why not? Don't think I will be making the PGA anytime soon! LOL, Steve-o

Welcome to the MyGolfSpy Forum Steve-O.

I agree that Solus makes a great wedge. They have some great TOUR ONLY wedges they are giving away in our contest...the not yet released FC-10's.

Chris, what is going on with SSB and wedges? You guys going to have some for production?

Would love one of those! The milling on them is Stunning!!

I did a small run. I think I have a few chrome heads left, and have a decent amount of raw heads as well. Shoot me an e-mail or PM if you are interested.

I look at CG14's all the time. I feel like they should be in my bag, but I know that they are likely too much.

Really? I could see you having trouble with the CG12's but I thought that the CG14's were geared towards higher handicappers. They are not a tour wedge. Bigger head, gel insert, etc.

Still not as forgiving as the Burners from my set though. Once my swing settles down, or they drop another $20, I will buy the CG14s.

They would probably work out great with time. Right now, I think having a different wedge brand/model would cause me to feel the need to alter my swing and then resulting contact would be iffy.

Cleveland wedges offer a wide variety of models, lofts, grinds, and finishes ... should not be a problem finding a comfortable fit for your game.

To be specific, they offer 3 models (CG15, CG14, CG12), 10 different lofts, 2 different grinds, and 3 different finishes. Plus 3 different lie angles.

Are there three different finishes on all models? CG15 too. Are you thinking Camo for the 3rd on the CG14

I never understood the camo wedge.... That thing is just asking to get lost.

Hey Nic

Is my playing the wedges that match the set common? Seems like it is not. Granted on golf forums, folks tend to have pimped out bags.

My bag does lack pimpage in this area

Sactown, you play the burners all the way down to what, 56? 60? Do you find that you lose any playability compared to a "traditional" wedge?

I have 50* and 55* no 60* yet. I can open up the 55 and flop with it distances are good. spin could be better, but so could my swing.

I posted somewhere else that I think that having them all look the same at address helps me stay focused.

In the garage i have vokeys, clevelands, TM TP. I like to buy wedges, but the only ones that I seem to hit well consistently are the burners.

I think there's a lot to be said for a matching set, and I wish I had a 52* wedge that matched my MP-57's, because it's almost always used for full or half shots, very little cutesy stuff.

Are the soles on the wedges any different than on the other irons? I'm a little surprised that you're able to open up the 55*, I remember those soles being a little thick, but I could be wrong.

They are thick soled, but it opens naturally to about 2 O'clock or so could go more open, but if I open a wedge that much and take a swing, someone's car in the parking lot is losing a window.

the 55 is great in the sand too, open it, swing hard (this is the tough part to remember) and the ball pops up and out. again maybe not as well as a tour type wedge could get it done, but the tour wedge tends to do bad things in my hands.

one of my playing goals is to get a 58 or 60 and practice with it until I can consistently hit at target from 50 yards and in. maybe later in the season once my iron swing plays nice again

Its kind of 1/2 and 1/2

I really think that getting the correct shafts and fit on the wedges will make a ton of difference for most players. I see a lot of players who play A flex Graphite, but have to have a Titleist Vokey wedge, and get it in steel, then wonder why it is so heavy. Get the same shafts, the same lie angle, the same lengths, and the Cleveland-Vokey-TP wedge should work well.

So if I have the stock TM stiff shafts in my irons... Do I need to reshaft the wedges or is there a stock shaft that would be similar. The TP's feel the best to me, but digging is an issue. Granted I have not hit any of them "underwater"

I would reshaft them. Pull the shafts from your burner wedges, and install in TP wedges. Make sure that the TP's are not taper tip before proceeding however...
