Taylormade Financing

Is it just me, or is this an absolutely terrible idea for about 90% of the people who are going to utilize this?

It's a great business decision for TMAG, in that they'll make more money...but it seems wrong. Financing a luxury item seems like a sure sign that you don't need that item to begin with. Golf is expensive. You should reevaluate your priorities is you're having to finance your ability to play.

That, or buy used clubs.

Also, you can't return your club if:

  • Your original club is significantly dented, cracked, chipped, or rattles.
  • Your original club has significant sky-marks on the crown (for metalwoods).
  • Your original club has a cracked or bent shaft.
  • Your original club has alterations that were made after initial purchase.
  • Your original club has excessive sole wear, groove wear, or dings.
  • Your original iron set is missing clubs.

No thanks.

I thought this was a great start to an upgrade program, it will certainly need some tweaks as it porgresses. Seems like a good way for TM to get customers to continue playing TM gear for a long period of time as oppesed to switching brand entirely when its time to upgrade your epuiptment.

Fair, if you want to get in that pipeline. But I don't know that financing a set of golf clubs is a sound financial decision for anyone outside of TMAG. And what happens if/when something breaks or you sky one a few times? You're paying more for something that you can't change at that point.

It has its merits, I suppose, but I see too many downsides for the consumer.

No different than what cell phone companies are doing these days.  Everyone has to have the latest model.  I bet this will get the people that wont pay $400 for a driver to give it a shot.  No doubt though some people are going to get into trouble with this program.

Thing of it is that these clubs will go through some abuse. I take care of my clubs and stuff happens but the last thing I want to be thinking when I'm swinging my club is that I should baby them so I can trade them in. I noticed the other day that my 3w had a large paint gash on the bottom (and its actually a TM club) so does that mean in this model I couldn't upgrade? I didn't do it on purpose and have no idea how it happened. Too many variables.

The biggest benefit I see in this is that it will help my hide the cost of golf from the family accountant (The mrs.) Or if you are someone that keeps clubs for many years without upgrading (I could never I like shinny things😁) but if you keep a driver 5, 6, 7+ years why not finance?

I know it's the same, but it feels so different with golf clubs versus phones. I could be in the minority there, too, but I seriously dislike financing phones. Though I do recognize my ability to save for a $500-$900 item can be much different than a lot of other folks.

It would be cool if a company like TM, or any OEM offered a rental program... Become a member, pay monthly dues and get the new Tech. every year or two depending on what membership option you chose.

It would allow TM to have guaranteed sales year to year by selling the memberships in one, two or three year terms depending on how often you would like to upgrade. Renew your membership evrytime you upgrade and send the old clubs back. That would be a program of interest to everyone who like shiny new toys and TM gets to build brand loyalty. Obviously there would be a ton of kinks to iron out but it would be an interesting program to develop.

The difference between golf clubs and phones though is the golf club will still be usable once it is payed off.  These smart phone seem to only last a couple years at most and then you need a new one and still owe on the first one.

Unless you're a trooper. I know someone still using an iPhone 3G, now that's impressive.

On paper this sounds brilliant for TM, it ensures someone will be with TM and paying them for some time.  Perfect for people getting in to the game to keep them in it too because youre still paying.

Does putting on a new grip count as an alteration? Thatd make it much easier for them to say no dice to the trade.

Hmmm, easy, pull the grip off when you get the club and put it back on when you want to trade it in  :D

As a digital dinosaur, all I wanted to do was purchase a new flip phone, but they wouldn't sell me one.

I just can't visualize financing the purchase of golf equipment.    That would be like going to the Casino with the rent money, not a wise thing to do.

They'll have to pry the flip phone out of Michele's cold dead hands to get it away from her. She has often joked I should he buried with a basketball in one area and a golf club in the other hand.

I told her she WILL BE buried with a flip phone in her hand. You want everyone to remember you how you were, right?
