lacou19
10 yards means nothing to me. Tell me that the ball will be in the fairway 80% of the time and I will spend 1000$ right away! It's not that I hit the ball a ton already (driver goes 260-270) but I play the tees that give me a chance to score (between 6000 to 6500 yards). So 80% of fairways hit would lower my hdcp by a few strokes I'm sure. -Driver: Cobra Aerojet LS 10.5 (Kai'Li Stiff shaft) -5 wood: Cobra Aerojet (stiff shaft) -Hybrids: Cobra F7 stiff shaft set at 19.5 and 23.5 degree -Irons: Mizuno JPX 919 forged 5 to PW ( Project X LZ 6.5) -Wedges: Vokey SM7, 50, 54 and 58 degree -Putter: Odyssey O-Works Red #7 (33 inches) I play between 70 to 80 rounds per year. MDGolfHacker
I've had the exact conversation in the past! Golfers continually upgrading drivers every year to eek out that additional 5 or 10 yards and spending $500 a driver. I was that guy at one point; always upgrading to the latest and greatest but I had to admit to myself that in order to obtain the distances I wanted, I had to stop spending money on new drivers and irons and optimize my swing. Kenny B
Yes, I'll take 10 more yards. Hell, I'd take 5 more. What's it worth to me? About 4 shots a round on my home course. I don't miss many fairways, but there are a few fairways where my normal landing zone is on a downslope. Ten more yards would get me to a level lie or a slight upslope. Oh, you are talking money? StrokerAce
Depends on if the 10 yards puts you in the fairway or not. If I'm 10 yards off line and this 10 yards can move me back to the right or left I'm all in! Honestly though... I recently trimmed the length of my driver shaft from 46 to 44 and I might have actually given up 10 yards and I couldn't be happier. Majority of my drives are now in the fairway. cnosil
Probably would pay $50 over trade in value for my current driver. Happy with my distance now. I'd much rather narrow iron dispersion or fix my short game. This is exactly what I'm getting at. The marketing is usually about distance but it seems like most of the folks here claim to not be that interested in "10 more yards". Which is interesting given the marketing trends. That said, MGS forum goers really aren't a representative population of the average golfer - in my opinion anyways. chisag
... I would buy a new driver for 10 more yards guaranteed for $499 in a heartbeat. At 64 I figure that is just about the yardage I have lost from my 40's when hitting it the longest. I can still reach some par 5's in two but that extra 10 yds would mean a lot to me as I am usually in the fairway. I think it would be worth about 1.5 - 2 strokes a round. PayPal OK? revkev
10 yards means something but with adjustable drivers it's pretty easy to max a person out. I don't believe that there's 10 yards available through equipment at this point. I recently laid out 100 for a driver fitting. I was swinging well that day and we tried several combos and found the most yardage by adjusting what I have currently up a notch. It was about a 4 yard gain in carry. Since then I've hit a couple of career drives at my course but I've only been a member there for a couple of years and it's been a very dry spring. Still I've touched 250 at least once in 3 of my last 4 rounds. I also had a 75 from tees that have a course rating of 73 and slope of 138. So that's something. It's the equivalent of one under where I play for league.
