Jiro
If you have a soft bag, get a stiff arm or a pvc pipe slightly longer than your longest stick. If your driver head is removable, removing it is probably the safest route. Also note that if the TSA gets in your bag they will surely mess up any padding you try to put around your clubs. Peterpc2828
I have a soft bag and before heads were removable on my first trip to play the blue monster at Doral I opened my bag upon arrival to the course to find my driver head snapped at the tip, luckily the course realized what happened and lent me a very nice driver for my round of golf. But since that incident i still use the same soft golf bag but now remove the heads from my woods and cover my clubs with a Home Depot bucket and it protects my clubs like a charm. Probably would be easier to buy a hard shell golf bag though. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

naadp
I travel with my clubs in a soft side case 25+ times a year. I've never had a problem. For what it's worth, Delta offers (or did at one time) a "club box" which is basically a shipping crate that your travel case fits inside, with additional insurance, for $10. I've only used it a few times and haven't in years. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

MmmmmmBuddy
I just talked to Sulman Raza yesterday about flying with his clubs. For those of you that don't remember, he was the kid that won the NCAA Team Championship for Oregon last year in extra holes. He was in to get his putter reshafted, because it was bent by someone at the airlines, and all of his woods were scratched to hell, because TSA didn't bother to put headcovers back on after inspection. bigrich110
I've taken my clubs on 5 trips (one international to Ireland) over the last 2 years or so with layovers on every trip. I haven't had any issues with my setup so far. I have an Ogio soft bag and use the club glove stiff arm (which I feel is the big reason i haven't had issues). I throw the stiff arm in my bag, usually try to center it between all my clubs, and then take my towels and a rain jacket and wrap it around all of my club heads and the club glove. I do this to get a little extra protection, but to also to keep the heads from be loose if my bag gets tossed around. Once in the bag I get the club glove extended a couple of inches above my driver. As I said, this has worked for me on multiple trips. The big reason I like the soft bag is that you can fold up the bag and make room in the car if needed. I had a trip to Las Vegas earlier this year and I was able to rent a convertible. Had to take my clubs out of my travel bag to get everything to fit in the car. Don't think I would have been able to do that had I had a hard case.
