And it begins.....invite her to ride along a few times. She will be bored and golf will not be some magical thing you do without her. Come home happy and in a great mood and after a while she will want you to golf.

I told my wife that it could be worse. we're happily married 12 years this past Sunday and if this is my mid life crisis then she's lucky!

 

She doesn't mind me golfing 1 or 2 times a week! She actually encouraged me to buy the unlimited range balls at local range for the summer, too!

I was carrying a (+4.6) index prior to my previous relationship.

 

She neither understood nor supported my golf habits and with absolutely zero practice I slumped to 0.0

 

Just wrapping up the divorce and excited about golf again...I'm seeing a Masters bid in my future.

 

It's a shame my putter doesn't keep the bed warm.

I'm lucky.

My convos go like this:

 

Me: I'm playing tomorrow at 8am

Wife: Whaaat??? It's my turn tomorrow, you do the babysitting...

Me: Uhhh no, you are playing a competitive round on Sunday, so Saturday is mine... when is your mom coming?

Wife: Next week, then we can play together...

Me: Fine, I'll take the daughter and have her make sand castles in the practice bunker while I putt...

 

See... we fight about who gets to play and can only play together when grandma visits us to help us babysit :)

But that's fine, I love spending time with the little one and enjoy watching her chase my putt around the green (she's 2 year's old).

Been with my gf for 3 years and the first summer I played a fair amount of golf, but not my usual amount and she accepted it. Last summer it was a very big issue and I had an awful year and my handicap went up and tournament results were just awful.

 

At the end of the year I explained that golf is something I am passionate about and she understands that I am excessively competitive. Told her I won't be sacrificing my game to appease her this summer. We shall see how this year play out

I told the girl im dating within a few dates "I will golf until im old and physically incapable, and if you have a problem with that, we won't be together long enough for me to prove that to you."...

 

Basically stay on your toes and don't get in-between me and golf because I'll choose golf every time.

My conversations with my wife are significantly different and go something like this:

 

Her: Aren't you going to play golf all weekend?

 

Me: Sure, I can manage to take care of that, why?

 

Her: Good, Our daughter and I are going to Barnes and Noble and a folk music festival at the Blue Ridge Music Center.

 

Such is life after 17 years of marriage.  Our youngest daughter is a total tomboy and follows everything I do, including golf.  She is 9 and in her second year of golf, wrestling, football, baseball, basketball and soccer.  Although, she has lost interest in all of those except golf in recent months.  My older daughter is a self proclaimed "nerd" and enjoys reading and guitars, similar hobbies as my wife.  Our oldest daughter is 11 and has a not-so-small library in her bedroom along with four guitars, a mandolin, and a fiddle.  And she plays them all very well.

 

In all seriousness OP.  My opinion of my relationship has always been to "give more than I get".  I have always been helpful, respectful and appreciative of my wife and as a result, she has never questioned my golfing habits.  I do, however, cook 90% of the meals in our household as well as 90% of the laundry.  Old military habits die hard but my wife doesn't mind in the least.  ;)

I'm sorry that many of you have to negotiate with your significant others to play golf.  I guess it's time to resurrect this classic from @jbil8802

 

A guy and his new wife were sitting at breakfast one morning.

Been playing golf on and off since I have been married. Got involved in a regular group that plays once a week about 16 years ago. My wife goes out with friends once a week and I go out to dinner with my daughter been doing that since my daughter was born which has been 16 years.

 

Now if it rains on my golf day my daughter and wife go out because they know I am going to be moping around the house all day.

Had an off year in high school and buddies joked about it being my gf affecting my mental side of the game. Next year I shaved 7 strokes off my average. Just saying...

I had the same issues back in the day. I always played way better when I wasn't dating someone. It didn't matter the sport. It worked the same way in college too.

I met my current girlfriend last October, towards the end of the golfing season. For the last 6 months, we've spent most weekend days together, mostly because I like spending time with her, buuuuuuutttttt also because the weather is too shitty to golf regularly between November and March.

 

Last week, I sent her a text letting her know I was playing nine holes after work on Friday... here's how it went:

 

Me: Hey FYI playing nine after work today, should be done around 7:30.

 

Her: Aren't you playing golf tomorrow?

 

Me: Yes

 

Her: So golf Friday and Saturday?

 

Me: Yes

 

Her: Ok I guess

 

... so it begins.

Me: The course is opening April 15th!

Her: See you in November.

Mine says something similar every March 1st when conference tournamets start followed by the NCAA Tournament.  

 

She say's I'll talk to you in April, to which I reply.  Well, The Master's is the weekend after the Final Four.  whcih always gets a big sigh of resignation.  She hates how, basketball season blends right into golf season.   But she knows it's my two passions!!

I've heard a lot of guys say that they prefer a woman that likes to make many men happy as opposed to one man miserable. 

 

Fortunately, my friend, you and I have the good fortune to have ladies for whom it is important that we are happy.  We are lucky guys.   For the past couple of years, health concerns has reduced my desire to get off my butt and go to the course.   My wife has noticed this and many times will say-you know you want to play, now get off your lazy arse and go.

That's why you find a wife or significant other who plays and loves golf. My wife has been down at St. Simons Island, Ga. since Monday, playing in a huge Ga. state senior women's tournament and I'm home baby sitting the cats and dog :wacko:
