Hey folks I'm looking for someone with a legal backround. I'm in a fight over the raising of my annual golf dues.dues are set every november but club decided to raise them in may even though by laws of club say november. Looking for advice on how to proceed with this. My anniversary date is every november with club.

Is the club privately owned? 

 

Edit: And is it in writing that the club isn't allowed to change their dues except in November? If so make sure there isn't a clause saying that all things are subject to change at the clubs convenience.

Did you pay 100% up front or do you pay monthly?

I'm curious why you haven't talked to them? Can't you just ask? Your post says you're in a fight. Already? You need legal advise?

If it's a private equity club you probably have language in your contract that offers the ability to "suspend" your membership for "medical reasons".

 

For example..."The correlation between increased dues and my suffering from excruciating headaches is undeniable. As such, my personal physician has advised me to suspend my membership until the pain subsides."

 

Facing that scenario, the club would probably prefer to have you pay the former rate until November opposed to losing the monthly revenue entirely. If you feel like they are slinging mud don't be afraid to leverage their bottom line any way you can. Are they framing the increase as a sort of member assessment to finance a large improvement project?
