Rush R30. With headphones. My wife can not stand Rush.

Why don’t women like this band?

... Finally we disagree! 🙃  I went to work at an Album Rock station in Chicago when classic rock was still playing. 95 1/2 WMET Chicago's Classic Rock in 1981. I came from a Top 40 station and was never a Rush fan as I just didn't care for the lead singers voice. Obviously a subjective opinion. But they quite literally billed Rush as bigger than the Beatles with more influence on Rock n' Roll than the Beatles. I was in the minority as everyone that worked there felt the same. But we played RUSh waaaaaaaaaaay more than any other band and I really grew to dislike them. And we had to wear this jackets anywhere we went. Gawd I hated the 80's! Now ... Does that make me a woman? (Not that there is anything wrong with that.)

Ha! It was bound to happen. I can also hear it in Howard Stern’s voice “Double-you EMMMMM-EE-T.” That Jacket May be ugly to some but somewhere in the folds of the earth is a James Franco / Shia Laboeuf fan who’d pay top dollar for that snappy gem

I became fascinated with Neil Peart. His literacy and eloquence, his philosophy on life. Oh, and the GD rockingist drummer ever. Nobody wrote songs like them and no band of three produced sounds like them. The Holy Triumvirate.

I can easily see why your not a RUSH fan. I don’t have a problem with them, not my top 20 band but I do like some of their singles. Saw them live Waaay back and pretty decent show.

I became fascinated with Neil Peart. His literacy and eloquence, his philosophy on life. Oh, and the GD rockingist drummer ever. Nobody wrote songs like them and no band of three produced sounds like them. The Holy Triumvirate.

... I am a drummer guy too and am fascinated by Jeff Friel from Perfect Circle. I have seen several concerts and can't take my eyes off him, so I get the Neil Pert love. But as stated earlier having them shoved down my throat just completely turned me off to them. WMET ranked Tom Sawyer as the #1 Rock song of all time. Insane. But I have always believed the more music you like, the better off you are. I grew up with the birth of Rock n' Roll and am quite jaded by growing up with every Beatles release and all they music they spawned. That in my opinion is both awesome and stifling because I find so much music below my standards. My son grew up listening to the Beatles and loves 70's music, but also grew up with rap and loves that too. He enjoys classical music and a wide variety of music from the 80's until now. The only music he dislikes is Country LOL.

... I would add the 70's was a generation of Revolution. Anti Establishment. How can I make the world a better place, not what can the world do for me. We looked outward while todays generation look inward. Not their fault of course as technology has made them this way. A 6 foot circle around their phone and the lyrics reflect that, so again I am jaded by the vapid lyrics of the 80's, rap and much more. To be fair I enjoy a happy, fun and carefree tune as much as the next person, but they should be the exception not the rule. I'd Love To Change The World, Somethings Happening Here, Natures Way, Fortunate Son are just a few that come to mind. Some of my favorite lyrics that illustrate my point and I find still holds true today is Last Resort by the Eagles. For those that are unfamiliar here they are and I think they epitomize what the 70's were all about:

She came from Providence
The one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
Heavy in the air

She packed her hopes and dreams
Like a refugee
Just as her father came
Across the sea

She heard about a place
People were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way
And how they loved the land

And they came from everywhere
To the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
Or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars
Out for a good time
Can't wait to tell you all
What it's like up there

And they called it Paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
While the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down
Across the desert
Through the canyons of the coast
To the Malibu

Where the pretty people play
Hungry for power
To light their neon way
And give them things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes
And Jesus, people bought 'em

And they called it Paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun
Sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind
And sail to Lahaina
Just like the missionaries did
So many years ago

They even brought a neon sign
"Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here

We satisfy our endless needs
And justify our bloody deeds
In the name of destiny
And in the name of God

And you can see them there
On Sunday morning
They stand up and sing about
What it's like up there

They call it Paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace Paradise
Kiss it goodbye

.,.. Amen y muy bien mi amigo. Songs should reach you emotionally and even bring you to tears. Because my son suffers from mental illness, the Boxer can do that to me almost every time I hear it. And being in radio, Top Songs and Top 100's were all listener generating business tools, so a necessary evil. While I believe Hotel California is the greatest rock song ever, as you said that is just a personal opinion due to many reasons and there are at least 100 other songs I could not argue against be #1. But Tom Sawyer is not one of them. 🤪

Sipping a pour of 1792.... just purchased...lol.

Listening to Loreenna McKennett. She is a selfish pleasure of mine.

A clouded dream on an earthly night Hangs upon the crescent moon A voiceless song in an ageless light Sings at the coming dawn Birds in flight are calling there where the heart moves the stones there that my heart is longing for All for, for the love of you A painting hangs on an ivy wall Nestled in the emerald moss The eyes declare a truce of trust then it draws me far away deep in the desert twilight Sand melts in pools of the sky darkness lays her crimson cloak lamps will call, call me home And so it's there my homage's due Clutched by the still of the night now I feel, feel you move And every breath, breath is full So it's there my homage's due Clutched by the still of the night Even the distance feels so near All for, for the love of you A clouded dream on an earthly night Hangs upon the crescent moon A voiceless song in an ageless light Sings at the coming dawn Birds in flight are calling there Where the heart moves the stones there that my heart is longing for All for, for the love of you
