I've got a new favorite artist at the moment...  Jelly Roll.

His whole catalog is not going to be everyones cup of tea, but don't judge a book by it's cover, or his name, on this one.

Dude can sing:

and he can rap:

Heard him somewhere before he can sing.
I cannot get into Rap, must be an age thing.

Try son of a sinner, I think some of us could relate to that one. Not rap, kind of country rock

I’ll look it up, I have no problem with Country Rock.

On a side note I’ve been on a ZZ Top nostalgia thing…

... First thing I would say is if you can enjoy all forms of music that is ideal imo. Music is just an audio and now audio/video art form. That said I have tried but rap just doesn't appeal to me. Of course not a lot of rap lyrics are targeting old white dudes.

... Growing up in the South I never got into heavy southern accents in song so most Country was out for me. Working a year as a Country DJ didn't help either. 🤪 I do enjoy some country without the heavy accent so I got that going for me.

I'm rather eclectic... I do listen to "classical" music (mostly baroque, even if I'm not averse to some proper classical, and romantic too), a good bit of jazz (mostly of the modern/fusion/rock brand) and blues... and then I also listen to a lot of metal, a fair bit of it bit of the "extreme" variety, some deathcore, some progressive and/or technical death metal, and a good bit of black metal, even if as a Christian I don't care much for some of the themes and lyrics in the genre. Some good "black that's not satanic/anti-Christian" that I'm into is the "unblack" band, Antestor. Real cool, cold, second wave vibes. The sort of contemporary heir to them, with a side of self deprecating humour, that I listen a lot too these days is Luteøks.

Aim small... pray to miss small

It came across my YouTube feed in reactions and I've watched several more since. A song likely not for everyone, but one that has some serious thought and emotion behind it in His Ren, by Ren. He is a British musician/rapper. Very talented, has an incredible story.

He has some decent other stuff as well!

Nope definitely not for all and even my wife doesn't care for it. It is more about the story and his battle with illness etc that is fascinating. Relatable for many as well.

I’ve been all over the place lately, but the last couple days I’ve had Alice In Chains Unplugged on repeat. Broke that up on Friday with the drop of Luke Combs’ new album. Had a couple misses for my personal flavor, but with his whole catalog, these were really the only 2 I haven’t liked.

One of the greatest guitar players I’ve ever seen live, great songs, and generally OK lyrics for the kids to be exposed to.

How do you feel about music on the course. I had never done it until last summer when I was playing with my son and a friend and his son (both 13yo). My friend had a speaker and put it on in the cart.  I actually didn’t mind it!!  Took a little bit of the edge off too.  Thoughts??

... My OG favorite guitarist and still is. I had a chance to interview Joe Walsh and it was amazing both on and off the air. I told him he had been my favorite since I first heard James Gang Rides Again and he could play with any other group and I would instantly recognize his style. He lamented most would stop locking themselves in their rooms for 10 hours a day and have an "intimate relationship" with their guitar. Learning how to bend the neck, pull/push strings and experiment endlessly with techniques finding something unique to them. Way before we knew it he said video would ruin audio expploration and even laughed saying dancing might become as our more important than sound. I thought he was crazy but he was prescient.

... Still one of my top 5 favorite LP's and this medley is a great representation of his style. Jim Fox the drummer and founding member as the James in James Gang is also part of the reason Rides Again is so unique and addictive.

... There are several threads on this topic but this one is about sharing music you love so others may find something new, or just enjoy others musical choices and remembering old tunes. Silver and Black posts some of the most outrageous hard edged singing/playing that are way outside my personal tastes. That said he also posts some guitar and other music I not only enjoy but bought some of the stuff he posted and am grateful for all his contributions. I envy his eclectic tastes in music. That is the beauty of this thread. People have wide ranging tastes and sharing them all, many can find something new to enjoy.
