Upcoming Tournaments Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I am sure many of you have tournaments scheduled throughout the year.  If you have one that you are entering, list the dates, location and tournament details.  Be sure to post a followup letting us know how you did!!

I am starting this thread NOT because I am a big tournament player, but  because I was informed by my wife that we are entering a couples tournament.   :o

This tournament is a two-day Chapman on June 24-25, 2017 at the Walla Walla Country Club.  Practice round on Friday.  It about an hour drive to Walla Walla so I've reserved a room at the Marriott Courtyard for Friday and Saturday night.  Dinner and drinks each night, of course!!

This should be interesting.  I played this course only once about 20 years ago in a Pro-Am and I sucked.  My wife has never played it.  We have never played in a tournament together other than scrambles, and of course, we play different balls so that makes playing a Chapman interesting.  We have 6 weeks to get ready, and we plan on practicing this format and trying to determine which ball we should play.  She loves her Srixon Yellow Z-Stars and I play either the Snell MTB or Ksig.  I think I might have to play Z-Stars for the next month!!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Sounds fun. But what's a Chapman? I used to play a lot of tournaments but never heard of Chapman.

We tee off; I hit her ball; she hits mine.  Then we pick one and alternate shot until holed.

You can now see why the ball we play is important!!!

I've got two of note coming up.

May 20 Capital Cup- a 36 hole one day Event with a different format each 9 holes, alternate shot, scramble, four ball and finally singles.

M playing on a team of guys from the DC Golf Tour and we are playing against a group of guys from WRX who have formed an off course USGA club.

It's being played at my home course, where I work, and where we held our recent DMV outing.

Then June 5 Solstice Survival -54 hole 1 day stroke play tournament.

I've played in this 10 of the last 12 years, missed a couple due to injury and schedule. It's the best day of golf of the year.

Playing at Musket Ridge Golf Course near Frederick, MD. Playing as part of a foursome with 3 good friends. Have usually played in the foursome with MDGolfHacker, but he had to choose another venue and date, due to a conflict.

I'm sure there will be a scramble thrown in somewhere along the line. As well as the Team Titleist Invitational later this fall.

Individual stroke play tourneys didn't line up with my schedule this year so just playing some 2 man and 3 man scrambles. We got sandbagged Pretty bad in our first 3 man and couldn't make a putt in our 2 man so tourneys haven't been great this year lol

We don't have an amateur tour but East TN does a FANTASTIC job of not only having tournaments but also marketing them. Great turnouts and great payouts. Literally one every single weekend from April to Sept. wanted to look into doing some in middle TN and the courses just looked at us like we were nuts.

I don't have any official tournaments scheduled for this year.  Maybe some golf get togethers will materialize.  I'm thinking two or three at least and maybe more.  â€‹

Now for my wife it's a different gig all together.  She is leaving for St Simon's Island, Ga at 10:00 today.   Traveling down with three other of her buddies for a huge women's tournament.  They will have 23 flights with 191 ladies (A & B groups/tees to spread em out) on two beautiful courses!  They check in at 4:00 p.m. tonight and have a meet & greet this evening at 6:00 p.m. Tomorrow kicks off the tournament and it's a two day affair.  My wife is in the 5th flight and has won her flight several times in the past. Today is her Birthday so how cool is it to celebrate your B-Day at St Simons, Ga. with a bunch of crazy Ladies....    :P  :D

I told her to go down there, have a blast and kick some ass!

June 5:Casa Corazon Golf Tournament @ The Links at Gettysburg. It's a tourney that benefits doctors without borders. This tourney this year conflicts with the Solstice Tournament at Musket Ridge I usually play with Carolina Golfer 2. I normally get two rounds out of this event since I play a practice round in the AM and the tournament round starts around 1PM. If I'm going to take the day off, I might as well make it a double header and get two rounds out of it!

June 20: Solstice Survival Tournament @ Stonewall Golf Course. Three rounds in one day. Prefer to play Musket Ridge for this but had a date conflict with a tournament I already committed to.

Wednesday Night Golf League - ongoing through the summer. Great bunch of guys.

That's the only planned outing I have.. Kinda sparse, but I'm just getting back into playing more so I'm happy with it.

Well, my wife did it again!!  In my first post I said that she signed us up for a two-day couples Chapman tournament next month in Walla Walla.  Today I learn that she signed us up for a couples better ball tournament on Memorial Day.  She's been playing well lately and I think it has gone to her head.  However, I had better get out of my slump!!!

Why no USGA Mid-Am?

No US Mid Am as I am on vacation if I were to qualify.

Actually had to withdraw from the state am as well due to work but added the state mid am in August.

Hopefully we can have a semi successful summer.

Both my wife and I played the worse round of golf this year in our club's Couples Better Ball.  We didn't "Ham 'n Egg" it; if anything we just egged it.  And since it was 95*, the eggs were over, well done, and we weren't cooking with Crisco!!!   :( My only highlight was a birdie on the par 4 #14 hole; I stuffed it to 6 inches.  Good enough for a gross skin.  We didn't finish last, but it was close.  This tournament did remind me why I don't like playing in these things.  One couple shot a net 58!!

We have a small local mid summer blow out event coming up next week.My handicap is an 11 and already peeps complaining. I shot 2 under a month ago and they are livid.I can't help it, my scores are so inconsistent and so is my game.My swing can produce shots that can literally go anywhere at anytime.Still will have a day here or there where everything syncs up

Keep it in the short stuff

Well, my wife and I played in the Walla Walla Couple Chapman tournament this last weekend.  Sorry guys; I didn't hold up the MGS flag very well.  Three flights and we were in the 2nd flight.  Finished dead last!!  It was a combination of 104* day, 5.5 hour round, not familiar with the course, fast greens with strange breaks.  Couple that with with of us playing poorly on the same hole.

The club had a very nice surf & turf dinner and we met some nice folks; just wish we had played better.  We played with one couple on Sunday that played in the 3rd flight and hit the ball better than both of us.  They had a combined 27 handicap.  Our handicap was 15.  This is why I don't like to play in tournaments anymore.
