tommc23
Hank my one local course I play like my home course is this way. The steep hills that are on the course makes walking rediculously annoying. With me moving my plan will be to walk more this year. KevinE
I find the old courses are much easier to walk. In my area anyways, the newer course are built on larger acreage. Lots of old farms and such. So, the proximity from green to next tee boxes is quite far. It meanders through woods, and water. So, while the ambiance and scenery is fascinating, the walk, especially in the heat of summer, can be overwhelming. But, I do walk my home course once or twice a week. It is an old Devereux Emmet (1926) design, and the tee boxes are a short walk from the greens. I did walk Bethpage Black at 57 years old, because there are no carts. That was a workout. tony@CIC, fozcycle and cksurfdude 3 Quote Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Driver JGR 9.5 R Flex Adila 65 3 Wood XR RFlex Fujikura Evolution 5 Wood XR R Flex Project X 5.5 7Wood Speedline LP R Flex Matix HD Radix 5.1 Irons 4 thru A Wedge J-15 CB R Flex NS Pro Wedges 56 CG 15 XE! 65 Putter ER 5 Hatchback Ball NXT Tour S

HardcoreLooper
Another walker here. Most times I'm pushing my ClicGear 3.5. I bought a Sun Mountain 2.5 last year so I could carry for a quick nine. I only ride when I'm forced. But I played at the Shenvalee (in the Shenandoah mountains) for the first time last Spring, and I was glad they made us ride. I could not imagine pushing my cart there. I book a lot of times with Golfnow/TeeTimes that includes a cart, but I still walk and use my remote cart. Many times the Golfnow/TeeTimes with cart rate is cheaper than the direct walking rate. As a single the closer you get to the date with tee times available, the more the price drops so you can find some great bargains and still walk. Kegger
I do enjoy walking, but I can only get comfortably around the flat courses or courses with minimal elevation changes when I'm using a push cart. I walked a hilly course (Poppy Hills for those of you who know it) the other week and started to lose my legs around hole 13. This caused me to start spraying my shots and I double bogeyed my way in to the clubhouse... I'm going to make an effort to get out and walk more courses this year, and maybe, after some "training", I'll give the legs another shot at Poppy Hills later in the year. cksurfdude and tommc23 2 Quote In the Sun Mountain 4.5LS 14-way bag: Driver: M2 10.5° :: Accra FX260 Fairway: M5 19° :: Fujikura ATMOS Tour Spec 7X Blue Hybrid: TS2 21° :: Mitsubishi Black 80G50 Irons: P790 (5-AW) :: KBS Tour 110 Sand Wedge: CBX-2 54° :: KBS Tour 110 Lob Wedge: RTX-3 58° :: TT Dynamic Gold Putter: Phantom X 5.5 Ball: AVX

ddryan
Big fan of walking- and almost always do. My home course is great (no great distances between greens to next tee, as some newer and resort courses have), and while there are some significant hills and valleys, they are gradual enough so it is not a mountain goat course! Getting ready for a week golf trip where carts are mandatory- and that is ok, as we will be playing 36 a day, but I still walk quite a bit- it allows me to slow down and maintain a tempo- vice jumping out of the cart, flailing at the ball and jumping back in and chasing the ball to the next spot... I need to keep a good tempo and stay in the moment-as it were- to successfully strike the ball and get it somewhere near my aiming point. KCLeo12 and cksurfdude 2 Quote What's in the bag?
