Does anyone walk anymore?

Recommended Posts

I've always walked, but life got a lot better after I started using a push cart. I broke my collar bone a while ago, and after two surgeries - one to put a plate in and other to take it out, it still bothers me to swing my bag on and off of my back. Not an issue with a push cart.

Walking is always better. I let the riders play through and take my time to enjoy the game and my surroundings. It's what the game is about. Having the cart for easy shade on really warm days is helpful, but I don't press the speed of play.

I prefer to walk, I am returning to golf in part as something to do while going for a walk. If conditions permit(they do not always) it is the way the game was meant to be played and you should walk if you can. I am convinced that if your health and fitness permit walking that you will play better as the body stays loose and more prepared for subsequent shots.

Even when forced to use a cart in the past, as much as possible, I would strap my bag on and walk to my shots. Still a half measure though as you have to comprise your timing to get the club or clubs you need.

You can also walk your line to the shot and have time to think it over(for better or worse) as you go.

When I learned to play though, mainly in high school there simply were no carts permitted so walking was just what you did. My first golf bag was an enormous leather cart bag and people looked at me funny when I used a pull cart at a couple golf meets. I did trash that in favor of an ultra light bag as soon as possible.

I like walking but most of the time I ride. As most of the gripus I play with ride and I don't want to be a solo walker.

My nephew has just taken up the game and when I play with him we walk. It's a great way to introduce juniors to the game and I believe walking helps reduce the strain from a prior bad shot. Plus it gives us more time to talk about what's happening in his life. You'd be amazed at the stuff a 12 has on his plate.

I walk when I play unless its hotter than 90 degrees outside.  This way I can convince myself that the 5ish miles I walked will help me lose weight.  Also, when its cart path only it really speeds up the round.   I have a Clicgear Rovic that I love.  I do ride during Scrambles or other Tournaments where the cart is included in the entry fee.

Basically the only time I ride is when the course does not allow walking...way more enjoyable experience that way IMHO.

I walk whenever it's allowed. Makes the round more enjoyable when you can talk to your partners and you get different conversations with different golf partners. I think it makes the game more social and way more enjoyable. Not really sure if it makes my game any better but it sure does make it way more fun and more connected to the course.

My course just isn't walker friendly.....too far in between a lot of the holes and then the 100+ temps with 90% humidity in the summer just don't work for walking.

I prefer to walk over ride. My muscles stay warm that way and I do not have the same amount of fatigue as I do when I ride. I also notice that my lower back holds up much better on the back nine if I am walking.

I also have a Caddytek EZ V2 that I got from Costco that I love!

I love to walk but I find that I'm using GolfNow for the most part and the cart is typically included.

I do find that I think my way more around the course and play more strategically when I'm walking.

Most of the guys I play with tend to prefer to just ride.

I'll have to consider that.

However, it's nice to be able to chat with who I'm playing with, so taking that approach could deter that quite a bit as a lot of the conversation is had in the cart.

Appreciate the recommendation.

It's always a trade-off. I don't walk the entire hole when I do that, but I'll naturally look for opportunities to tell my cart-partner that I'll just grab a handful and (s)he can take the cart. Speeds up play as well.

I prefer walking as well, I only cart if it's mandatory or the odd twilight round where we're trying to get in as many holes as possible and tipping back as many pints as possible.

... I do the same but still walk when the course is walkable. It is usually cheaper to book the round thru GolfNow which as you said includes a cart, than it is to pay the course walking rate. I look at it as the best of both worlds, cheaper rate but I still get to walk.
