Does anyone walk anymore?

Recommended Posts

I'm 56 and you have to twist my arm to ride in a cart.  I'll only do it if I'm playing with buddies that absolutely have to ride in a cart.  Golf is a walking sport for me and the walk leaves time for conversation and careful consideration of your next shot.  When I'm in a cart, even if the round takes the same amount of time because the course is crowded, it always feels like I'm rushing and I don't enjoy that feeling on a golf course.

I will walk if it's a solo round. I enjoy the added exercise as well as the added time to think my way around the course.

If I'm playing with the wife or friends, I ride to ensure the social aspect of the game happens.

I walk whenever it is allowed. Upped my game this year with a Clicgear model 8 and it is like having an ATV in the course.

I want a pullcart that holds the clubs completely vertical at 90 degrees...every pullcart I've had including the one I have now lay the clubs down making it a pain to remove them.

Look at the Bag Boy Quad XL. The bag is not all the way to 90° but it can get pretty close. Very happy with mine - decent weight and seems to be durable.

I definitely play better when I walk (which is as often as possible). Something about just having the time to let the last shot go, talk with whomever I'm playing with, and then refocus is a great rhythm. If only they made everyone walk in our club tournaments...

Just remembered the other brand I was going to suggest....

- Big Max

There was an MGS member review in the recent past; think they might be in the UK so not sure about availability here. But if I recall one model did allow the bag to go nearly vertical.

Thanks...I recently saw one on Craigslist and I swear that the clubs were vertical.  Maybe that was it?  Appreciate the follow-up ck!

  • 3 weeks later...

At UGa it is around 6.3 mile loop up and down some big hills. It leaves me a bit breathless at times but I do love that stroll. Around 3-3.5 hours alone is a nice pace.

For the most part, I walk four or five rounds per week, probably will ride a time or two per week when the heat/humidity gets cranked up, too old to fight the heat stress.  The only times I've rode was when the knees were bad and leading up to knee surgery but after each of the knee replacements, I was back to walking the course within six weeks of surgery.  On the road, I usually ride unless the course has a caddie program.
