Does anyone walk anymore?

I've golfed in several places in Canada and Washington where carts are required due to the terrain and/or where the hike between green and next tee is a hundred or more yards.  Walking those slows pace of play considerably to well over 5 hrs.  Carts are a necessity to keep pace of play down to 4 - 4.5 hrs.

Not many but some are cart only.  There are others (Aberdeen Glen in Prince George, BC) that provides a courtesy cart service to haul you between specific holes but you can walk.  Uses an 8 person golf cart!

But you always have the option to not play a cart only course.  There are plenty of others.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around a place that does "not allow" someone to walk.

I know my group, we all walk and if it werent for the cart people, we could easily finish in 3 hours.

So I'm just wondering what the logic is for forcing people to cart it?

The course makes more money when they rent more carts. I like walking beeter too. Play better walking also.

I'm getting back to walking again.  Recently bought an Alphaard V2 and set it up with a Rovic RV1S.  One of the courses here is hilly with some long walks to the next tee.  Loving the Alphaad/Rovic set up so far!

I recently joined a club (Maple Chase in Winston-Salem, NC) and have started walking when I play there. When I visited and played my first round at Maple Chase, I noticed that more than half the folks had push carts or were carrying. That gave me the confidence that I wouldn't be in the way if I walked. I ran out and bought a Sun Mountain 2.5+ and love every minute of carrying...

Recently joined a local par 67 course where I play in a league. I Have to get out really early in order to play during the week. This has helped me walk more because there’s usually no one in front of me and no one behind me for a couple holes. I’ve noticed I can get 9 holes in an 1.5 hours and if I’m playing well and keeping score I can play in about 75 minutes. The exercise is nice too especially with 2 bad knees it’s helped with my PT progress

I think I wouldn’t mind walking, but I would definitely need some kind of push cart. My back would never let me live it down!

I highly recommend a Clicear.  Nice and sturdy plus with all the accotrements needed, makes a roaund much more enjoyable.

I Play in SW WA and in the PDX area

I like to walk, I have a Clicgear with all the accoutrements and I am considering getting a V2.

Absolutely loving being able to walk again after knee surgery 18 months ago. Had issues for over a decade, so now I'm walking every chance I get. I've got a stand bag for when my knees up for it, and otherwise have a Clicgear with a seat for bad days, but walking either way is great

I actually seem to play better when I walk so i walk every chance I get. I think walking allows you to stay loose and mentally break away from the game in between shots. I'll keep walking as long as I'm physically able to. I have a caddytek with a seat. I like the extra bit of storage for sweaters, water, etc. The seat costs extra but was well worth the extra $40.

What @Kenms3762 said. I just find I don’t get into a good playing rhythm when I don’t walk - don’t know why but did look at scoring averages walk vs ride and the data seemed to support  it as well. And I like walking, especially in a green space like a golf course .

I'd say most of the rounds I play I walk (push cart). I play in New England so I enjoy walking from March to June/July and again in late September to November. The group of friends I play with are typically riders but we all agreed that for this season we would play walking rounds until around July when it gets too hot to walk.

I honestly feel I play faster and definitely play better when I walk.

I picked up a nice Clicgear model 4 today and am looking forward to using it.

I fully and completely understand that there are some people that can't walk due to physical issues and appreciate the fact they are out on the golf course enjoying themselves!

Anyone claiming to play faster when walking (and playing solo)  is just blowing smoke. Just my opinion.

I think it depends, if you have a group in carts and the riders are spraying the ball all over the place and away from each other then they're riding the cart all across the fairway in zigzags. But ultimately the pace of players all depends on the group in front of them.

I do not carry anymore, but prefer to walk. It isn't faster but it isn't much slower unless it is a long distance from green to the next tee box. I feel more focused for my next shot, when walking, so ultimately I play better walking.

... Riding in a cart as a solo is always faster than walking, even with my remote cart. But it is very rare to be slower than 2 players sharing a cart. IF and it's a big IF, they know how to play ready golf, drop off an go to their ball and the player dropped off walks to the cart they can be just as fast as a solo walker. But in my experience that is very rare and I almost always wait for a twosome in a cart playing in my group.

... While I greatly prefer walking with my ZIP cart, summer in Phoenix is rapidly approaching and once the temps top 100* I ride on a shady course. It is 102* today and still April, but thankfully dropping back under 100* for the next 10 days.

No doubt, but even then there would, or might be, qualifiers.  What if it was cart path only and the path is on the right side of fairway and Mr. Right Handed tugged it left of left- that's a long walk there and back across the fairway to play his miss while you are coolly strolling down the middle of the fairway.   This tortoise and hare discussion is a fun one.

Good hand action comes from good body action.

I’m 100% in the same boat. I find myself way more prepared when walking up to my next shot. I’m more distracted sitting in the cart bantering with my cart partner. I might have to break down and look into a motorized cart one of these days.

Probably not faster walking than riding (assuming I’m in my own cart) but I can almost always keep up with others in a cart when I’m walking. The exception is when playing on really hilly courses or when there are long walks from the green to the next tee box.

I have actually started to carry my bag more the last few rounds vs the cart. I always prefer walking as the courses here rarely ever have carts, but this switch to carrying has been new and not really sure why I switched, but so far I have really liked it!

I'm actually looking to start doing that as well... With a push cart... The old poundage is going the wrong way! I can't even imagine trying to carry my bag right now, and in Florida! 🥵

Do you find yourself more constantly engaged vs having to go from hitting your ball then to the next person's while sitting in a cart?

Hit 'em long!

I still walk as much as I can with the push cart, last year I walked about 75% of my rounds, I wish was 100%, but with my knees and ankles getting a little worse for wear, I've found my self taking the cart a little more often unfortunately.

... I am amazed anyone carries their clubs with the push carts available on the market today. There is some elevation on my winter course but my 80yr old pard always walks and pushes. I have pushed his cart several times and it can move forward with one finger on level ground. These are not the pull carts of old and of course I have been using electric since 1995. I have pushed his cart several times and it can move forward with one finger on level ground. These are not the pull carts of old and of course I have been using electric since 1995. If it works for your car? ⚡

I have a clicgear and it's great. There are almost no hills at my home course so don't really notice a huge difference between carrying and pushing a cart.

The kids bought me a push cart for Christmas, so when I take the 2 oldest out, we walk 9 holes. I am going to make an effort to walk more rounds in general this year. I find I prefer it, to cart rounds

I walk as well, but do not carry my bag. I use a push cart as well.

I do the same thing, push cart every time unless the course or event requires riding.

And I see this is your first post in the Forum and a good thread to begin in.  Look around at all the threads in each of the topics that interest you and I am sure you will find as I have that hours can pass by just reading what others contribute and then later following up to see what has been posted since last looking!  Great people here I would choose as friends, hope you have the same experience.

Congratulations on your first post and welcome in! ⛳
