I just moved away from Chicago 2+ years ago, and Intellgentsia coffee is outstanding. Ethiopian is a favorite of mine, enjoy it! I had my first Intelligentsia coffee when they only had one store in Chicago.

I see that their parent company is Peets whom I adore.  I can't wait to grind them up and start brewing.

Peet's is very good (we've been to the Berkeley shop, still have 2 Peet's mugs), but Intelligentsia is (was?) even better IMHO.

Thanks to @chisag recommendation, my intelligentsia arrived this morning.

Just finished the Nicaragua bag…

I won’t do tasting notes because I think it’s cringe.

I want to say that it was easy to drink without creamer for those who get the Agita.  For a baseline, my go-to is Peet’s Major Dickason’s blend and Alameda blend.

Thanks again @chisagfor the recommend.  Once I crush these two it’ll be onto Verve.

... For those looking to try Verve, they are offering free shipping with any order. Normally I have to buy 2 bags to get the free shipping with orders over $40 so this is a great way to give them a try:

This is such a tough thread to read because I LOOOOOVE coffee, but I’ve learned over time that with my Crohn’s it’s not a good thing early in the day… Ugh. I’ve even had to source some “lower acid” options that don’t taste as great. I still drink some, but not like I used-to, and now it’s usually after lunch, often a cold brew. At one point, I had tried every single roast Starbucks had, and had rated them. I know, Starbucks isn’t the greatest, but just showing I loved to try the different roasts to see what they tasted like. I bought a Zojurushi 4 cup brewer for its rating, had a French press, etc. Ugh. The good old days!

I’ll say this, for a “local” coffee, Community Coffee down here in Louisiana is pretty good, and a staple in restaurants throughout the State.

I’m so jealous!!!

Seems like my post didn't post everything. I was saying, I picked up this super cheap ($3.99) coffee at Aldi and when I opened it the coconut aroma was amazing, which made me think it would make a great nitrous cold brew. This is the first time I made a pre-ground coffee so I was not sure what to expect. The coconut aroma & flavor was great and the slight sweetness imparted by the nitrous really added to the flavor. I'm not sure if it was the grind or the beans, but the amount of caffeine was off the charts with this one, so much so I was shaking all day. I watered it down for all future pulls and it was fine. If you like coconut in your coffee I highly recommend this budget blend whether hot or cold.

@chisagMy Verve order arrived today.  I went through the Intelligentsia that I had purchased and thought it was great...it didn't blow my mind.

Starting with the Bishan Dimo today...trying to figure out my proportions...smells nice after a grind.

... Obviously coffee tastes are subjective but those are some of my favorites, especially the Halo Bariti. Looking forward to hearing what you think of these.

I like to follow the season blends for the most part with things being mostly medium flavored / sugar and honey / fruit notes.  I am excited for these.  First cup tasted good today.

My 12 year old machine came to the end recently.

This is my new toy. Izzo Vivi PID Plus. Very happy with the coffee it produces from my home roasted beans.

If you like flavored coffees you should try this King Cake blend from PJ's Coffee. It has rich flavors of cinnamon and vanilla and works well as a hot or cold brew. One of the best flavored coffees I've tried and it's only available in Feb until they sell out.

I was recently introduced to some locally roasted coffee that was prepared in a French Press. I was a Star Bucks "bandwagon" fan after living in Washington for 2 years and seeing them on every corner.

I've since been checking out small coffee roasters, and EVERYTHING gets pressed.

How do you take your coffee?

French Press is great and was actually pretty useful here during Hurricane Sandy .. the power was out just under two weeks .. and we were living in a house that had natural gas - so we could heat up water and make fresh coffee. BTW my wife and I both are not Starbucks coffee fans...

Normally we go with the convenience of automatic drip .. we set it to auto-start during the week .. BUT - we always use fresh ground coffee from a small, independent roaster (Fair Trade Dark Ethiopian Yirgacheffe; full roast; espresso grind - yum!).

This is my new favorite cold brew concoction. 2/3rds wild blueberry crumble and 1/3rd French vanilla. The result is a rich blueberry cobbler al a mode flavor. Both of these coffees can be found at Aldi on the cheap.
