Most unanticipated golf purchase

Is my entire bag a good answer?  Went to look for some grips at NY Golf Center in Manhattan and ended up walking out with TMB irons as well as SM6 wedges with an SM5 and bag thrown in for good measure.  My wife pushed me over the edge to get them for the deal that I got.....but it did cost me a new purse and an expensive dinner.  So in essence I paid three times what I should have for the clubs :)  Once I got the irons it was almost mandatory that I went and got fit for a new top end of the bag or at least that was what my thought was.

Before I got married, right MDGolfHacker??!, I had golf shoes upon golf shoes in my apartment.  One for cold days, one for hot days, one for muddy days, one for tournaments.... the list goes on! I have a knack for finding nice shoes for a discounted price... Considered it a gift until marriage!

There's a store where I went to college that's get gear from insurance companies.

Once a year they have a huge golf sale from pro shops and other stores that filed claims. Needless to say, every year I go down and stock up on gloves shoes balls and clubs because almost everything is heavily discounted. Last year I left with 12 gloves 3 pairs of shoes and a new Cleveland wedge for a little over $200.

The most unanticipated was a chipper. Went into the store looking at drivers and had no idea they existed, but tried it out in the hitting bay and couldn't miss with it. So I bought it right then and there and had a lot of success with it for a few seasons.

Ah. The good old chipper thread. Ha

You guys kill me! You need will power to prevent these impulse purchases! And that will power is called a wife, two kids, four mortgages, and feeding a hamster (who knew a hamster could eat so much? 😂 if I didn't have kids, I'd be going all out on the hardware just like you all, but the family comes first.

I've also had this internal debate the last several years as well, that while I want to buy the shiny new irons, fww, wedges or driver, it's all for naught if my swing is in the gutter :(. A new set of irons isn't going to magically make me hit better shots (will it?, lol) and increase my GIR's or keep me in the fairways. This might be the year though that I go all in and revamp the bag. We'll see...

And I thought I knew you. Lol

I have to talk myself into buying anything; debate with myself for at least a week and then maybe I'll give in.... okay, most times I give in.

I really don't buy much golf stuff other than balls, tees and gloves throughout the year. I usually buy new shoes every couple of years and new clubs (of any kind) rarely. I figure I can suck just as good with what I have (none of it is more than 5 years old) as I can with shiny new stuff. ;)

I went for only one mortgage but have a Great Dane instead of the hamster, now that is a pet that can eat. I came close tonight to buying a new driver for no reason in particular. Went to help my IT guy with a fitting in Vegas and almost left with an M1 myself. That is will power.

Last fall I went to our local shop just to "browse" with my buddy and found the C130's were on sale, think I got mine for 150 if I remember right.

I was on strict orders from the wife, NO NEW BAGS! I had issues with the previous bags that I had bought.

It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission, right!!

If the interwebs count as a store than I'm guilty callawaypreowned and GlobalGolf get me in trouble. For whatever reason the brick and mortar store prices never match my eye.

This is exactly why I've learned to stay away from golf stores. You never know what might happen there particularly since I'm on the prowl for a fairway wood.

I'm a sucker for deals and closeouts on the Internets as well. I have a growing hoard of "great deals" that have never made it into the bag, or that have only made it for a brief stay. I need to donate some of that stuff to The First Tee.

I don't buy much in stores, but when I see and hit something I really like, I go home and search online and usually end up buying it. Or I'll buy/sell/swap a lot.

Though I guess in the category of unanticipated...it'd have to be when my father-in-law and I went to golf an hour away from my house. When we got there I realized I forgot my shoes and only had flip flops and a pair of socks...so I bought a pair of spikeless shoes haha

90% of the shoes we sell in our pro shop are for the very same reason. Happens more than you would think.

haha I have over 50 hats so year I am a hat ho

Pfffffft. I gave 3 garbage bags of hats to a charity shop a couple years ago. That didn't include the 30 or so I had at home and wore regularly. The number hasn't gone down since either lol

So were those purchased hats or from tournaments/outings? Regardless, that's a pretty impressive amount!
