In the Market for Hybrid

Camcmart

Recommended Posts

So I'm in the market for a new hybrid, and I was just wondering what everyone thought I should demo. Price I'd like to keep under $100 and used/old models are perfectly fine with me. What does everyone have experience with that I should give a swing?

I think if you could; try a few out first and see if you really like them. I have 3 or 4 that I've never hit that well. I know.... it took me that many to learn they're not for me.

I actually have a couple Adams Idea hybrids in my bag right now but I'd like to add to what I currently have or possibly replace my current ones if I find something I hit better

... definitely pay attention to the shaft.  it makes a world of difference.

FWIW I have the Titleist 816 and it is really nice.  Very adjustable too.

But - like Plaid said, try some,  they are a "feel" / "looks" club.

Haha that was me. I had one when it first came out and loved it, but had to sell all of my golf clubs too help with some medical stuff.

Once I was able to buy golf stuff again I moved away from the Callaway brand.

Nice to have it back in the bag.

The pro is at little smaller than the standard, but I love how playable it is from all different lies and the face is super springy

Agree with X2hot or pro and the Apex if you like your hybos to play like irons.

I have seemed to find more success playing older models of hybrids. I have a taylormade burner superfast that works amazingly and also had a Nike covert hybrid that felt really good and worked great, unfortunately in a move it got damaged. I have tried other newer models but they don't seem to work as well as these oldies for me.

The right hybrid may be a function of your swing speed and tempo, which is why we say it's a feel club.  I thought I liked heavier clubs, and for the last 5 years I have been playing the TaylorMade RBZ.  It's a great club but last month I tried the Wilson Staff D300 hybrids, and they are so easy to hit with my slower swing speed.  Very lightweight, but easy to control.  They are this year's model, but you can find used ones for a little over $100.  Probably the price will be dropping a little more soon.  You really need to try them if you can.

Thanks for all the input guys! I prefer a lighter club as my 3 wood has a D0 swing weight (BB V series) and I love the feel of that. I've had my eye on Wilson for quite a while so I'll definitely give those D300s a hit! So far it looks like I'll be giving the X2 Hot, D300, and a Cobra a hit for sure and we'll see what the shop recommends, keep 'em coming, though!

I use an Adams Super LS hybrid, its older but just as a good. The face is pretty hot.

I am thinking I will replace it with a Mizuno MP H5 4 Iron. I have the 1i and its great. They are almost a hybrid iron.

I really enjoy my cobra Bio Cell Hybrid. And my ping Anser Hybrid feels amazing it just does not fit my current setup. But they can both be had for good prices since they are a few years old.

I think that Hogan is still running the 87.50 per club deal. The new hybrids were easy to hit and get airborne (a little spinny for me) but they looked and felt great at impact. Plus they have some moveable weights to play with the ball flight a little.

You can have about anything that you want for 100 other than this years models. Honestly I would spend more than 50 for a hybrid. I have SLRD S that works fine. I had the Calloway Xhot but it spun too much and launched to high for me. Easy club to hit though.

For me the Taylormade Rescue Mid has always been in my bag this year I picked up a 3H and 4H with Aldila NV shaft for around $20 each. They look great and may not be the longest ever but will prove worthy of a test.

If you can get your hands on a Bridgestone JGR hybrid used and below $100, I would say that it's a good buy.

I'm playing one right now and simply love it due to the ease of getting it into the air.

I demo'd the M1 and M2 two weeks ago and just picked up an M2 22* on eBay for $170, shipped to Hawaii, using the memorial day coupon. Super stoked! See if there are any demo days near you, they're really fun and the fitters I worked with were helpful and weren't trying to force me to buy anything or shove anything down my throat. Going to a Callaway demo tomorrow!
